I'd really like to see some sort of ride along/highway pulls/ canyon carving/ track footage /cockpit cam / head cam (either sourced from owner or by hooningan) to really get a feel for these cars. since they wont always want to shred the tires or cant like this GT2. at the very end, like "bonus clips" featurette at the back end after build biology ends.
That would be nice, I at least want to hear a few solid revs and a pull

This Porsche is crazy. Good stuff and also one of the coolest Porsche's I've ever seen.
That's it.... need me a 911 996, a winning lotto ticket and a local shop who know their stuff...
Normally 996's kind of put me off, headlights plus I dont even want to think about one because of the IMS bearing but this thing just made me rethink my opinion on the 996... In its final form it is a beauty on the outside, absolute beast on the inside. Love the suspension work as well.
Watching this kicked me back to when I was 10 years old and a 996 was all I could think of.

Generally hated the 996's. Only model ever that I wasn't in love with, but they really did Porsche justice here. Perfect execution, absolutely beautiful.

Earlier this year, I rode inside this car or a car identical to this (Silver 996 GT2 with 800hp and Pushrod rear suspension). It's insanely quick, felt like my eyeballs were pressed into the back of my head! This is right after taking a ride in a 993 Ruf CT2R the day before and driving a Tesla Model X a week earlier. This car is truly a beauty and the owner and builders have done a magnificent job on it.
The rear suspension is a masterpiece. It's definitely more for show than actual performance. From a pure performance perspective, it sits too high up and defeats one of the main purposes of a cantilever suspension (the part about lowering center of gravity). But the owner wanted it that way so who cares? It's still a show stopper and an insanely fast car.
I normally don't care for Porsche, but I gotta say this one is nice af.

Cantilever suspensions been around awhile in various configurations, its cool to geek out on but been around for a while, even Mike Maier sells cantilever suspension set ups for older mustangs and obviously has the set up on Ol Blue which him and the car have been on the show.

That is one of the best sounding turbos I have ever heard.......
The widowmaker nickname these had in the 80's and 90's was really just down to old turbo technology. Not only were they incredibly laggy and produce a huge surge of power when spooled up, bu the turbo would even still build boost under partial throttle. If you were doing some spirited driving around a long bend it could result in boost being built to the point that the rear tires broke loose. Combine that with the rear engine layout and you basically got a pendulum effect going on. Scary as fuck actually.
You all should have the cars move through the various shows, where applicable. Left wanting more of this one.

You gotta love when torque is close or higher then horsepower and you get that almost diesel turbo exhaust sound 😎
Saw some positive camber wear on the rear tires, guessing that is for traction reasons when the power is put through.
I replaced a radiator last night and was complaining that I had to take one hose off to get that thing out... this puts things in perspective...

I have to agree i prefer an unmolested car if it is an old Porsche expecialy. but with the new ones are not super rare the only reason to keep a car original is if its old rare or even some from the 80s or 90s like a first gen eclipse or a evo 8 i no others will maybe not agree but its just one mans opinion don't bash people have a good debate because that is how all car guys should be if u no your cars more then the average guy
Man I really wish I could see some of these cars drive. You should do a Co-lab with Matt Farah where he drives these or something...or Dan is fine too. Just throwing ideas out there.

I wonder if a Front Mount turbo on a porsche or any other midengines would have any benefit..I would assume there is already intake piping up front..
With that amount of custom fab I would have gone all out and made some hinges to open the rear glass and reach the rear suspension.

“It’s like a diesel” old smoky made a little over a 1000 ponies to the ground, and over 2500 lbs of torque. Gassers shall never beat a diesel in the ratios, even a stock 12 valve made something like 215 hp and 440 lbs of torque. ~1-1 is pretty good for a gasser though, waaaaay better than the thunder Doritos.

don't these newer Porsches (after the 993) have the engine set further forward? I know the 930/964 Turbo have the widowmaker reputation due to the engine being rearward past the axle, but I'm led to believe the new stuff is closer to a mid/rear?
Legotruck82 the new 911s still have the engine mounted behind the axle but the technology has come so far they’re able to get rid of rear engine characteristics with rear wheel steering and self adjusting suspension.

Naufal Kusumah indeed as soon as I saw it was 996 I wasn't concerned with changing it. It's probably the least desirable front clip with those headlights

the 996 has been growing on me, especially when the lights are fresh and clear
Clean, without any stories 996 GT2 is the rarest water cooled 911 now a days.
How do rear mounted radiators work
I thought maybe they would elaborate more on why someone might redo the suspension in this way. Other than so you can see it through the window.
Like maybe the stock suspension is compromised because of cramped packaging.

ImBarryScottCSS I know plenty of people who wrench on there own 100k cars. There real car guys who spend there 100k making a car better rather than just buying a 100k car. Some of the nicest show cars I've ever seen was done by a guy with some help from his friends on the weekends.

people who can buy these kinda cars (I mean the GT2 class) can either a.)afford to have them serviced or b.) have their own shop.
You'd be surprised how easily serviceable porsches are compared to the other exotics in their respective classes.
Daniel Hurlbert aka Normal Guy Supercar does most repairs on his F430. Matt Moreman of Obsessed Garage has been known to take apart and swap exhausts on his $200K GT3 RS. Just because you have an expensive car doesn't mean you can't work on it yourself.

Rear suspension settings are carrying too much camber or upper inflection, check out the uneven wear on the rear tires. Could it be that the upper suspension just doesn't really work. Porsche racing engineers are probably laughing at this car!
The thought of cleaning the back glass gives me anxiety.
