Enjoy a walk with me down East 79th Street - passing Pride Cleaners - Harold’s and Happy’s Liquor on 79th Street in the Chatham neighborhood. There are many parts or sections to Chatham that are fascinating to walk and explore. Here’s a little history about the neighborhood: Historically, the Chatham community area consisted of three neighborhoods; Avalon Highlands, Chesterfield, and Chatham Fields.[3] The community area also contains two districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to two residential historic districts, Chatham is also the location of the Four Nineteen Building, a building which demonstrates the domestic style of gas station architecture, in which stations were designed to resemble small houses.

@@JohntaeStrict-rn8uc Because it is. Great food - great culture - great history and people. Chicago is a beautiful city and I love it 🙂

I love this channel with a passion. I would definitely take my daughter to this area once she get older so she can learn about multicultural things. She just arrived this morning. She have both of her parents in her life. Thank you Peaceful Explorations.
That is awesome! I truly appreciate that and I think that is a blessing to learn about multiculturalism and history. She is very lucky to have you both 🧡 My mom definitely instilled in us to learn more about other cultures and traditions and I love that 🥰
Wow, this warms my heart. Pride Cleaners is iconic. Also, seeing the building that used to be Independence Bank where my grandfather opened an account for me to help with college brought back memories.
Don’t forget the Rhodes theater that used to be over there😅….
I love that - I appreciate your comment. Pride Cleaners is definitely iconic 🙂
And Rhodes Theater lol. I think they should put another theater there.
Thank you for sharing where this Boston girl spent some beautiful summers. ☀️ 😊 I don't know what i love most, the video or all the wonderful comments 🥰 Thank you again ✨️
Not a problem at all! I love Boston 🧡 Sunmertime Chi 🥰🥰 Thanks so much for your comment!
back in the 60's,70's 80's use to ride the 79th st bus all the way to commercial st. My grandmother lived off 79th Essex and harolds was on the corner.
I remember riding the 79th bus. Those were the days for me lol! But I would take it to Ford City Mall. Aww ford city mall - haven’t been there in years.
@@peacefulexplorations Damn ford city mall, movie theater. man that takes me back lol. my other haunts were the ashland bus, cottage grove, western ave.
@ I actually might do a walk through ford city - I haven’t been in awhile. Oh yeah Ashland - Western - Cottage Grove - King Drive and 93rd street were my buses for sure lol
Nice.....I'm from the 9. This brings back a lot of good memories. ❤
Thank you! I’m glad it brought back memories for you - Chicago is home and I appreciate your comment 🧡🙂

I love my city but. bro are you cool walking down the most dangerous part of Chicago 😂
😂😂😂 I can’t help it - I love the city. Yes I’m fine walking the dangerous parts lol! It was cool fr.
Thank you so much for this I’m going to Chicago NEXT WEEK🎊🥳🥳
Definitely visit the neighborhoods - Harold’s is the best inside of the neighborhood - the one on 87th Street either next to the gas station or in the Jewel parking lot. It’s off of the Dan Ryan. Go to Baba’s get the Italian beef with cheese and hot peppers and a lemonade on 78th and State Street - get some Chinese food from 71st and Jeffery in south shore. Visit Heinies Shrimp House (for the pizza slices and side of fry on 105th and Torrence. Go to Calumet Fisheries on 95th Street off of the bridge and get a fish dinner fried hard. For breakfast - make sure you visit White Palace Grill on Canal Street and if you REALLY want to try some good donuts? Go to Old Fashioned Donuts - 112th and Michigan Avenue. Soooo good. Don’t eat the food downtown. It is okay 😒😂 Oh and the hotdog stand on 63rd and Halsted. I’ll have you all over the city forreal. It’s so much to do in Chicago and so many neighborhoods that you can visit. They have a nice coffee shop in Pilsen called Cup of Joe - I am in love with the Red Velvet Latte. Have it iced - it is so good. Let me know if you have any questions or anything 🧡
Ohhh, so y'all are walking in Chatham, nice!!!
Yes! Just a different part - people figured that it was only one part to Chatham when it is several lmao. Thanks so much for your comment! 🙂
I was born on 80th and Drexel. Had an apartment on 80th and Maryland. Waayyyyy back when...Used to be a bowling alley just before you got to Cottage. Dad and I used to go there a lot. Also used to be a Payless Shoe Store when the chain was popular. Used to be a bank on the corner of 79th. Sporting goods store on 78th. Did a lot of IT work at the State office on 80th. Aunt stayed on Evans. Midas used to be on the corner of 81st I think...Decent restaurant diagonally across the street...Izola's Restaurant. Pride Cleaners...Dad had his clothes cleaned there. Jerome Photography just off Eberhart..or was it the previous block??. Caught the # King Drive bus to Dunbar in my senior year.
Do you remember the name of the bowling alley? Payless was definitely a popular store back then - we used to go there all the time especially for our back to school shoes lol. It seems like there were a lot of different businesses in the neighborhood. We used to go to Pride Cleaners lol. They were the best. And a photography studio? That is so awesome. Thanks for sharing - I appreciate your comment 🙂
@@peacefulexplorationsbowling alley was on 79th n cottage on tha corner
Good Morning PE ❤

Back in the day (way back I should add!!!) I ordered from that Harolds so much they knew me by name!!!. Jiffy Cab Company south on King...is it still there???
Nice walk ❤ thanks for sharing it. Like 205
Thank you! 😊🧡 I appreciate it.
7920 S Wabash, my first apartment! I could see the 79th St L Station from my back porch.
Lol was definitely over that way all the time 😂
I used to have to catch the 79th right there back when it was a maxwell there some many years ago late at night. I was terrified being out there. Iykyk. Thanks for another awesome video.
Ooh yeah lmao. I know what you’re talking about 😂😂 Going to Happy’s late at night after work on Cottage lol! Thanks so much for your comment - I appreciate it! 🙂
Shout out to Rehab Divas! I don't know anything about them. But that is awesome!
Thank you!! I appreciate your comment!
you should walk thru Jackson Park during the Chosen Few DJs House Music Fest. :)
That would be DOPE! I would love to walk through the House Picnic 💯
It used to be a Rose theater over there
It was! There are a lot of businesses that are no longer there. I wish they still had it.
The Rhodes yeah 79th st and 63rd used to be the spots back in the day along with 47th st and 63rd and Halsted
@jimmiesmith5811 yes 63rd and Halsted was my spot and 91st and commercial
I lived there 50+years ago,76th & Bishop
That is so cool! I’m sure there were a lot of other businesses back then!
It would've been nice if you showed the street signs. I couldn't tell where you were and I grew up on 79th street but it looks nothing like it use to. 😢
I walked from Pride Cleaners to Cottage and back around. Ended at McDonald’s. Lol how long has it been since you’ve been in Chicago? Pride Cleaners is a big part of 79th Street.
@peacefulexplorations I lived over there from 1967 to 1977. I thought that was Cottage Grove but none of those stores were there, when I lived there. It looked like you were coming from King Dr to Cottage Grove but again, I couldn't tell. We didn't go to Pride Cleaners because our dry cleaner service picked our clothes up. Things have truly changed over there.
Yes the hunting grounds be very careful
Absolutely! I will be careful walking 🧡 I appreciate it!
Lon City born n raised… 079 Langley
🙌🏽💯💯 I used to be over there all the time lmao. Hanging out - getting food and catching the bus 😂
My old hood
I love it over there - used to be over there all the time. The cleaners - going to get food - and just hanging out lol.
Good morning, you making me home sick 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 Good Morning! ☀️ Don’t be homesick - Chicago is right here 🧡
А могли бы показать центр Чикаго😊
🙂 We will - eventually. Downtown is nicer in the spring. So we will be showing that soon. Thanks so much!
Happy Liquors is gone! 😑
I know! They still have the sign up but it was closed. Used to go there a few times 😂
What ??? No more happy liquor
@@kimmoore7799 That Reverend John 'whatshisname' petitioned to shut them down for good.
