    My dad the 1969 Chrysler Town & Country station wagon. He had the 440 TNT engine in it with dual exhaust. That car was fast!!!!! I still remember flying over Hills in that thing.

    I remember the Chrysler for 1969. It was an exciting year for Chrysler! The fuselage styling with loop chrome bumpers was beautiful and was sure not a copy from any other car company. The front end of the 300 was the best. Very luxurious interiors in the New Yorker. When I see one of these 1969 Chryslers today the design still looks so fresh and clean.

      1969 was also a big styling change year for the large Fords and Mercury's
      as evidenced by the protruding Virgil Exner styled grills on the Ford LTD and XL and the Mercury Marauder and Marquis. The Ford's wheelbase was increased from 119" to 121". And a Mercury Monteray and Marquis hardtops, sedans and convertibles from 123" to 124".

      Exner worked for Chrysler. Was Exner related to the spy woman with whom Jack Kennedy behaved so recklessly?

    My father replaced his 1967 New Yorker, in 1991, with a cream white '69 300 four door hardtop. Black vinyl interior, AM/FM stereo 8-track factory radio, plus a bonus in the trunk: a small case of about a dozen 8-track tapes, everything from Beatles to Stones!
    The 8-track deck was balky though, and Dad did not want it eating up too many of the cartridges, so in 1992 or 93 he had a car stereo place replace it with a new Blaupunkt cassette deck AM/FM unit, since he had over 100 cassette tapes to listen to!
    By 2004 though, our city began levying a "luxury" vehicle tax, and unfortunately, Dad's 300, 35 years old by then and with over 100,000 miles on the odometer, still met that criteria. So he sold it, and shared use of Mom's more recent Taurus SE.

    the '69 Chrysler is my first car that i learned how to drive, it was a cool smooth ride.

      It required a four inch pot hole to bounce the occupants. They felt like they had air springs. The downside was massive body lean when cornering. Apparently, anti-sway bars at the time were made from putty.

      Imperial was a different division of Chrysler! It was the top make, not model!

      @@oliasofsunhillow7116 : I own new in 1969. It was a good car for the time. Imperial was not as good as many think!!! I kept mind till 1972 and purchased a Cadillac DeVille back then. I never returned to a Chrysler or Imperial again. Thank you

      @@Freedonone, my uncle worked for Chrysler making the Imperial and he and my dad both drove Imperial! My fourth car back in 1981 through 1986 was a 1971 Imperial LeBaron four door, and I swore by the car, especially already having over one hundred thousand miles on it when I bought it! It had the rear heater/defroster and the computer controlled four wheel sure brake system that worked great! Either way, old cars and old music I never outgrew!

    Dad and grandfather both had 68 Chrysler 300s they bought used in the 1970s. My theory is, they bought them because they were incredibly cheap; and they were cheap because the styling of 1969 made 1968 look as fresh as last week's bagels. The fuselage styling predicted (or set?) the vibe of 1970s styling. Meanwhile, the 1969 b bodies were still doing the coke bottle style that gto had in 1967.

    The 69-73 fuselage body was a Chrysler styling hallmark. It was as unique as the 100 million dollar look of 1955. Unfortunately, sales for 69-71 were just so so, due to a recession. By 72 and 73 sales were very good. 72 wagon sales would be the top for Chrysler.

      Disagree--I was in high school when these came out and these were considerably pug-ugly with that bloated body, especially following the formal look of '68. I remember no one in my high school years who bought one. Very rare around here in Texas.

    The double action left wiper also appeared on big gm cars in the early 70s.

      The articulated wiper first app 10:27 eared on the '65 Pontiacs and was picked up by Ford in '67 for the T-bird.
      The full-size GM cars except for Cadillac picked up the articulated blades hidden under the rear of the hoid in '68. Cadillac picked it up in '69.

      ​@@philojudaeusofalexandria9556 Usually the backseats had ash trays integrated into the arm rests. If the owner ordered a car without bucket seats, a rear console ash tray might be impossible.

    Chrysler used the fuselage design on the Imperial as well. Don't get me wrong! The fuselage design was very nice for Chrysler cars but it didn't belong on Imperial. 1968 was the last year that Imperial was a separate unique car in a class by itself. It didn't share any body parts with Chrysler. However Chrysler's Imperial lineup was an attempt to steal the Cadillac market and they failed. With the sales levels Imperial was achieving Chrysler could no longer justify making a car that unique. So in 1969 Imperial started sharing a lot of body parts with Chrysler cars. And likewise imperial buyers couldn't justify buying an expensive luxury car that was little more then a glorified Chrysler Newport. So sales started dropping and 1975 was the last year for Imperial.

    its a smokers car with the added benefit of a state of art 8 track stereo tape deck. One thing chrysler did right..freezing ass a/c.

      Chrysler's V2 compressor with R12 was the best in the business. It produced almost the same displacement as GMs BIG axial DA 5, 6 or 7, which was made by Frigidaire, at a fraction of the size and weight. GM's rotary 4, used into the late 80s on some cars, was a joke in comparison. Ford's system fell somewhere in the middle. Chrysler used bigger condensers and evaporator cores for faster heat transfer, as well as larger engine driven fans and shrouds on a/c equipped cars. A/C cars also had bigger radiators to keep the engine cooler with the added load. Wagons had the option of dual a/c units mounted in the roof above 2nd row passengers. This was something no other manufacturer offered.

    1969 was the year in my opinion Chrysler ruined the Imperial. 1969 and newer the Imperial looked like nothing more than a glorified New Yorker and New Port. Imperial buyers couldn't distinguish the difference. Sales of imperial started dropping. The last year Imperial looked unique and separate from the rest of Chrysler was 1968.

      Yes. New car technology is superior, and modern cars are far safer. But they are no fun, they have no style. At least give me 2 tone paint and a little chrome bling!
