- One of the absolute greatest long-term high milage sport cruisers. That is, of course, the Honda St1300. You can grab one of these motorcycles for under 3500 dollars today in 2022. They are a great deal if you can find one that is well maintained. These motorcycles can go over 500,000 miles.

He’s right about this bike, I fell in love with it the moment I test ride one in 2003. I just hit 105,000 on my 04 (blue) and like it so much I just bought an 08 (red) with only 13,000 miles. I figure my 04 is good to 250,000 so I have enough bikes for years.
This is an unbelievably well built, well designed bike. Others are faster, others are smaller, but with 7.7 gallons and averaging 47.2 to 49.1 (depends on how heavy my hand is) I can ride for hours on a bike that will perform WAY above what people expect.

We used them as police duty bikes from 05-2015 AWSOME bikes, super smooth powerband great handling. A bit heavy compared to other sport touring bikes. Very reliable except the alternator!!!! We had many a bikes alternator die between 40-50k miles. Strange
Just picked up a 2013 police from a local PD in Oregon. I love it. I don't know what some of the switches on the right side handle bar controls are for

I’m 5’8””, maybe less , shrinking at 75 years . I have owned one of these for two years and think it is the smoothest machines ever made . I get on it every day . Baja trip coming up soon . Love the analog dash .

I found a 2006 ST 1300 a year ago with just 6000 miles on the clock. Just got lucky. Got 10,000 on it now. Love this bike

I’ve had two ST1300s and like the sound just fine as is. When it starts singing at 3500 you can see birds, deer and other wildlife run in the other direction. Great mile eater.
I'm seriously thinking of giving up my R1200 GSA for one of these....if only it had cruise control.
@@r12rtpilotI went to a Goldwing. When I turned 70 I began having feeling like I was going to drop it at an intersection because my legs are so short. I’ve had the GW for seven years now and I ride daily. I did enjoy the smooth power of the STs. The GW will not run much faster 85 without becoming a handful. If you get one, find a fairing deflector kit. It makes a lot of difference in rain and wind protection. Mine also had bar risers that raised the bars up about an inch.
These bikes have absolutely cavernous bags and a rear box is easy to add. I had a big GIVI box for longer trips. They will also tow a trailer as well as any Goldwing or Harley.

Those clutch plates are toast. I would buy this bike in a heartbeat. With a little TLC it would be wonderful. An all around tune-up would do wonders. One major factor to me regarding the ST 1100 and ST 1300 is the looks. I think they are beautiful.

I have exact same bike with same aftermarket seat looks to be Sergeant seat.
Theirs a funky way to pull off the seats using key hole at back bar and a little leaver to pop the seats off. If it’s a Sargent seat it has a funky tube that you can
Put your tools into majorly comfortable seat. In my case the guy that I bought it from only had it for a year and was in a rural Harley market hard sell in that neck of the woods. I also have chrome version of two brothers pipes amazing, but I as discovered the original owner had put on at least $5,000 USD of after market accessories. The DIY community on ST 1300 is amazing, just from experience these are the little things. Because of one key covers all locks the key can get bent. I had OEM primary key and after market key as secondary that would work
on all locks but the ignition. I tested 2nd key on a lock other than ignition my bad.
Order a couple of OEM Honda blanks and then have a locksmith cut OEM Honda blanks from original key that works in ignition. I broke ignition key in tank lock and had lock smith fish it out of tank lock, my 2nd key just regular blank opened up gas tank filled up and then that key wouldn’t switch ignition bad freaking day in the middle of a trip at the gas station. It took 5 days expedited service to get 4 OEM Honda blanks and then a skilled locksmith to work of a broken OEM Honda broken key. An absolute shit show. But also just for your own thing change out the bearings front and back then your golden and I always change out differential
Oil every 2nd oil change. I’ve never had any problems over heating but it looks like you live in Florida just from the flat lanes you went on looks like Florida, hopefully your are OK from IAN. Rod Rides & Wrenches you tube has mitigation for ST 1300 in Hot climates.
I have a 07 it has 45k I ride it everyday.in heavy Austin TX traffic, and yes it moves and stops like a sport bike. I hate that honda discontinued it. plan on keeping it

Shockingly good bike. Amazing for distance journeys. If you run it with a short screen you can get wind blast on low or silence on high. I have had to emergency brake with no chance of stopping in time and it stopped so it does the job. the panniers are heavy so your better off using pannier bags or £1 shopping bags from the supermarket. panniers hold a xl helmet each topbox holds 2. with a modified rack i have carried 10 xl removal boxes. a folded wheelchair. A 5ft rat cage. Only thing left for me to get is a tow bar. if you dont need as much storage i recommend a much bigger battery in one pannier and a voltmeter on the dash because when the alternator fails you will need the bigger battery to get you home. This bike will wheelie on throttle only dont ask me why i know this
I took the cash to look at one. I was sold before I got there. I took it for a test ride, I didn’t make it 15 minutes out before I felt the heat. I told the seller that I wouldn’t be back for one or two hours because you can’t tell what a motorcycle isn’t like just by going around the block.. I intended to go at least 50 miles. But I couldn’t make it. There was too much heat pouring off of the radiator and engine. I was heartbroken. This machine had bar risers, and aftermarket seat. Two windshields, top case, tag bag, fresh set of Dunlops that were not even installed yet. Original owner, 30 K miles. Never been dropped, Honda Service manual. Box of extras like oil filters, oil, air filter, EBC brake pads not installed yet. The airbox in the exhaust had not been tampered with. it had an upgrade on the forks and the shock. And thank goodness it did not have ABS brakes. I had recently had a BMW K 1200 LT with ABS.. I was on a back road, lost. I was looking for a campground where my friends were. I had to turn around and I ended up on this paved back road, but it had a lot of gravel on it. I went down a moderately steep section, and I went to touch the brakes.. no brakes front and rear. I was picking up speed and there was a turn coming up about 100 feet ahead that I was not going to make. I was literally dragging my feet trying to stop after giving up on the brake pedal and the brake lever. I ended up running into a cyclone fence around a salvage yard that was straightahead through the grass a little. I will never buy a motorcycle with ABS brakes again if I can help it.. ABS stands for, all breaking stops.. on a car or a truck, you have three other wheels they can do the stopping if one of them detects slippage, but on a motorcycle, you only have one wheel to save your life. And when that stops working, you’ll need a little more than good luck…
at the same time I did have a Moto Guzzi Norge.. I had the Norge 2007 till 2021. It had ABS brakes, but there was a difference, there was a button on the left inner fairing panel that said ABS.. if you get caught in the snow, wet grass on a slope, gravel road, anything slippery, you push the button and you will have conventional brakes. That’s because in Europe, they have some mountains where they get snow all year round, and they are Tune in to motorcyclists that ride in all weather.. I have been caught at work during three surprise snowstorms. One of them, 6 inches of snow. If I had a machine that had ABS brakes, I would never have made it out of the parking lot…
anyway, this ST 1300 had everything and more. The problem is, the more was more heat than I ever experienced coming off of a radiator on a motorcycle. I have no idea how all those long-distance riders can tolerate that heat. I was lucky that I rode the machine on an 85° day. I had my Kevlar jeans on.. those jeans have 18 inch Kevlar linings from the shins up over the knees inside the pants. They actually give some insulation from heat and cold, but it was roasting my legs below those Kevlar panels in the jeans…I thought about forcing myself to adapt to the heat because the bike was so perfect everything I wanted in a motorcycle. But I know exactly what would happen. I would end up riding one of my other motorcycles on days that it was above 70°… It would end up just sitting there unused and I would end up selling it. So I had to pass.
I’ve never had any problems with ABS. All new road bikes in Europe must have them.
I might just own on of these before the week is out. Only 5K on the odd. Thanks for the information. Bought it.

Love the windscreen....what brand/model? Bike is a sleeper that grows on you....rated most comfortable of sport tourers, best range, reliability. What you'll find it does nothing spectacular but everything consistently. Best kept secret, used ST's
If you have the rear wheel brakes dragging and even locking up, it's the rear master cylinder. Take it out and clean it up with emery cloth. Then enjoy the hell out of it

I just picked up an 08ST1300 here in the Tampa FL area with 26k miles on it. Going to wrap the header all the way and upgrade the mufflers to Delkevic.

@@craigwoods7439 Also wrap the header pipes and loos the stock mufflers, this will help night and day with the heat these put out like 100 degrees difference per side with just doing that. Try to find one with service history, if none is available or aka yea, it's been done, well prove it! Here if FL the market is just all over the place and people are just truly greedy and unrealistic.

They came with the bike but I would stick to brand name ...cheap knock off break and cause crashes
Any reason to steer clear of a 2007 with 32K miles (2 owner) as long as it has been maintained?
Is there a need for rev matching when shifting down gears?

TY - No my knees do not touch the plastic cowls good wind protection though.
As a shorter rider, I really like the adjustable seat height. Mine does get quite hot on warmer days. On a trip through North Dakota I melted some prescription pills that were in the side cases.
Wow…they were in the side cases and melted huh? What exhaust do you have on it?
@@Tugyankreel It had the stock exhaust. I believe that the catalytic converters are in the mufflers and they run hot. The bike was loaded for a trip from Iowa to Montana and I didn't think that the bottle was at the bottom of the case. They were small pills, but I found them melted inside. I had never had that happen on my old ST1100 or my Concours14. It was August, so it was a pretty warm day. I hear that the compartments in the fairing can get pretty hot also. Heat can be an issue for some owners. I'm not sure if it has to do with the bikes or if some riders are more sensitive to it than others.

@@Tugyankreel I haven’t tried installing heat shields. I wonder if changing to aftermarket mufflers would help because it would remove the catalytic converters. The medication was in a side case right above one of the mufflers. I only have real problems when it is really hot outside.

It's the weight of them, the drive is flawless, like an automatic transmission..tip into corners like a scooter..no exaggeration..
I have a 2007 great bike. I just have one complaint. Over 80 mph on interstate doesn't seem well planted and stable.
Agreed, I ended up putting a front stabilizer bat on it…pretty inexpensive

Yes I do it all the time
If your side mirrors fit the everything else will as it is the widest part of the bike.
Good to know I am thinking about buying one. So even on the city streets you don't have a problem with lane splitting?
