Im not saying its a bad song or that i agree with censoring it. Im just being brutally honest when I say that if i was in my car and it came on during an xmas vibe, id be changing the channel being like "aw cmon doesnt one of these channels have Feliz Navivdad or Jingle Bell Rock or someshit like that on?"

To the ones listening in after the 2018 "metoo" controversy that claimed this song is about ignoring a womans right to say no: Listen to the lyrics. The song is quite the opposite.
The woman wants to stay with the man, but she has to pretend she doesn't due to what other might think. "Maybe just one drink more", "maby just one sigarette more", and lots of references to what the father, brother aunt and other would think if she stayed. "I wish I knew how to break this spell", she's in love. "I ought to say no no no" because of others she feels she should but she doesn't. Even the "what's in this drink" is her building her defence, to other people she can say she was drunk if she spent the night.
It ends with both of them singing together It's cold outside, they agreed on the formal excuses and now she can do what she really wanted, spend the night with him. Not because he wants, but because she wants.
You have to be blind (or deaf) to think this is about a man abusing a woman. It's about a strong woman staying with a man in a time where society said she did not have that choice.
I wish I could click Like to your comment a thousand times!!!!
*cigarette
I think a blind or deaf person should know better if they listen or hear the lyrics. You have to have at least one brain cell in your head to think of this song wrong. People are very stupid and are willing to make themselves happy if they at least make someone miserable.

This song was written by a guy specifically to sing with his wife. I'll never stop listening to it just because people want to attribute it negative connotations it never had to begin with.
Nate Broadus
Never knew that
Thanx
Great song, but it is obviously not targetted towards somebody's wife
@@123axel123 depends on the stage of their relationship. He might have been reminiscing.
Either way, what we know for a fact is Frank Loesser wrote the song in 1944 for he and his wife to perform at parties. The theme has nothing to do with sexual assault, either. It's about a man urging his girlfriend/fiance to stay, rather than go out in a blizzard. For unmarried couples to spend the night together in that era was considered scandalous. The woman makes mention of it numerous times in the song, yet even she displays signs she wants to stay ("So really I'd better scurry... Well, maybe just a half a drink more").
This whole stupid thing hinges on one single line in the song ("-say, what's in this drink?"), which is about as vague as you can possibly get and entirely driven by modern perspectives of date rape drugs. Maybe she's a light weight? Maybe it was a particularly strong vintage? Notice that, unlike most people under a drug, she never loses her faculties ("I ought to say no-no-no sir... At least I'm gonna say that I tried.") She's already thinking about what she is going to say the next day to explain why she spent the night in case anyone asks, ffs.
Yet as much as she claims to protest, SHE keeps making the decision to stay ("My maiden aunt's mind is vicious... Well, maybe just a cigarette more.").
He wants her to stay and she wants to stay -- they're just pondering how it might look based on societal standards of the time.
This whole so-called rape connection is based in zero fact. You might as well try to get Somebody's Watching Me banned for promoting stalking.
@@natebroadus8474 Damnit - why did you have to drag context and reason into this?? The internet said it that makes it so, no thinking allowed! How am I supposed to get my cri - uh Holiday, outrage on now?!

Doesn’t this song actually convey Women’s Rights and equality because the woman is making the conscious decision to stay with the man despite the societal norms of the era?
trueee
good angle to think about this.
I like this music video by Michael SO MUCH MORE. The song comes off as light hearted and cute.
When you watch the original music video, it does seem a little creepy.
when she says "maybe just have a drink more"
the man points to a corner to get her to look there as he says "put some records on while I pour" and he grabs a glass that's already prepared on the table next to him quickly without making it obvious or looking at it, and distracting her by pointing to the opposite direction of where the drink is, telling her to "put some records on while I pour" so he can get it without her noticing.
that particular scene in the old music video version creeped me out.
then immediately he hands it to her the drink as she talks about what the neighbors might think. As she's about to sip, she stops before it touched her lips and says "say whats in this drink"
THE OLD MUSIC VIDEO IS SO BAD LOL OMG - I hope michael is trying to put more focus on the beauty of the song itself, to help people forget the original music video that was attributed to it.
Old music video: th-cam.com/video/7MFJ7ie_yGU/w-d-xo.html
crazy how times change so drastically as to what is acceptable in society, and what isn't.
Edit: he even changed those lyrics. to "maybe one soda pop more". and the "say whats in this drink' changed to "say, was that a wink?"
they should have encouraged this version of the song, I bet nobody noticed these small changes he made so that the old implications of the song wouldn't apply to his version.
This song was written by a guy specifically to sing with his wife. I like to think the guy is worried about the women because she wants to go outside in the freezing cold, and roads can be really dangerous in the winter, so i like to think the guy is just being worried and doesn't want the lady to die in the cold. Sorry about my grammar
But baby its cold outside
"I really can't stay"
"Baby it's cold outside"
"The cold never bother me anyway"

This music video is honestly the cutest thing, and Idina and Michael's voices are just gorgeous
Definitely my favorite rendition of this song.
This song was composed by a man named Mr Lester who in the year 1944 for a Broadway play he wrote this song. It has always been a lovely song during🌲 Christmas time and I think the reason is that we all use our own imaginations and our own thoughts and a bit of wit🎀 to make it as wonderful and as long-lasting as it is today. I hate videos because they are always someone's else take n 💯 vision of a song and making it into a video which is just some stupid morons interpretation of what the song is about. That's not the way I see this song as shown on this video. A horrible music video 😂📸 however still a wonderful song!! That has lasted close to 80 years for all of us to hear!! A true classic 🌺🌹🌹🌹🌺🌺🌺
@@dorothykuveke1217 It’s just the creators’ personal interpretation. Most people would not imagine the song with two kids in a hotel. 2019?
Look, this is a classic Christmas song. It isn’t inappropriate. It’s a game. They’re teasing and having fun, that’s the point of the song. I like listening to it, and I will continue to do so. Edit: I believe that the way much of this song was intended to be taken doesn’t make sense in our time. When the song was written, it wasn’t socially acceptable for women to spend the night at a mans house. Therefore, he’s offering excuses ‘pneumonia, it’s too cold, I’m worried, there are no cabs ’, that she could offer to others. And hence ‘my father will pacing the floor, my maiden aunts mind is vicious, the neighbours might think, they’ll be plenty of talk tomorrow’. She’s more worried of what might be said if people find out she stayed the night. The ‘what’s in this drink’ was an idiom suggesting that her actions could be blamed on the alcohol, even if in fact there was none in the drink.
I agree.
I believe it’s a man trying to court a woman Without courtship there isn’t too much chemistry in a relationship
Alexa Cannon what if all this protest against it was orchestrated to popularise the song again? I don’t actually know I just like conspiracies..
@@pop-vk6gs it wasn't a music video. it was taken from a movie
@@pop-vk6gs fair enough. So the second part of the song where the man asks whats in this drink does that imply the woman is going to drug him and rape him? And dont forget the fact the song was written in the 40s and the drug was discovered in the 60s and not used as a date rape drug till the 90s.
who's here for bash croft?
this is cutest thing
Ikr. I like how they had children play out this song. Especially because it fits so well, with the guy trying to convince the girl to have sex with him rather than go home.
LOL at least they had the sense to take out the date rape lyrics
Casual Tea x\
The lost art of a man wooing a woman. I admit I'm a feminist moderate democrat. And I met my husband of 36 years so far by telling his brother I want to meet "that cute boy" his brother. But nothing pleases me more when hubby "chases" me, and I mean for other things, not just sex. It is a dance of love, care, interest, laughter, tough guy with the tender insides. I feel sad for young couples who aren't comfortable "courting" like back in the old days. And here's something a lot of guys don't get: Many, but not all, women LIKE to be wooed, to get attention, to be wanted, craved so bad the guy just cant stand it! Women don't mean to cause pain, but what leads up to love and sex is a dance just like exotic birds in the rain forest. The flashiest bird gets the girl! This song is SWEET, and is infinitely better than rap that calls women bitches and hoes and is all about brutality.

I cannot STAND most covers of Christmas songs these days, I mean, they are absolutely TERRIBLE. They butcher the songs. HOWEVER, Michael Buble is the exception. He maintains that classical feel.
"Just a Soda Pop more"
“Santa buDDY”
Am I missing something?? Why is this offensive?? It's a nice retro song about a lover who doesn't want his love to leave him....how is that offensive????? I feel sorry for humanity sometimes!
IT'S THOSE *FUCKING* SJW'S!!!
Sjws don’t like it that’s why, they can’t get laid, they aren’t respected and they’re shit shows willing to tear others apart that are more successful than themselves.
May have something to do with the fact that the original version goes "say, what's on this drink?" rather than "say, was that a wink?". That first one's bloody creepy, but this one's nice.
The woman wanted to leave, and the guy just won't stop pestering her.
the issue is consent my dear.

yup i searched up this song bc of it
Baby, it's offensive outside
Then stay inside, snowflake. Baby, now it's cold inside 😂
Baby, you better stay outside~
LOL
OMG!!!!!
You know, if the woman was trying to convince the man to stay instead, the NPCs 'would not' notice this song. This is not about him 'not taking no for answer and encouraging/wanting to rape', it's a husband and wife. While the wife wants to stay inside with the comfort of the warmth and him, she's also worried what her family will think. Her husband tries to calm her and convince her it's okay.
Feminists/NPCs/SJW don't have the mental capacity to analyze these lyrics right. They think anything made by man has the potential to be offensive/sexist/misogynist/racist/trans/homo/phobic/rape culture. I've seen a wide spectrum of genders, races, and ethnicities guilty of all. They don't want equality. They want double standards.
When people are offended by a Christmas song and not degenerative rap culture, you know the world is screwed.
He is the frank Sinatra of our age. His voice is outstanding

the untold story of alicent and jacerys ft. ben hope
So cute! It almost makes me forget that the original has a pretty rapey and Stockholm Syndrome undertone to it.
Bullshit its jst a guy trying to get his girl to stay with him while she insists on gettin back to her family so they dnt find out abt the two of them..all the filth is in ur mind not in the song
wingsuiter101 Original lyrics include "What's in this drink?" and the song is about a guy not letting a girl leave. What am I suppose to take from that?
Nathaniel Hellman GET A GRIP iits the mind it goes into
no it is definitely incredibly creepy. glad they changed the lyrics for this version.
Just try to keep in mind the time period in this, this was written back in the '40s, a time where a woman walking and staying with a man alone outside of marriage was equivalent to a one night stand in the minds of many. The song, including the original, has a very upbeat tone to it, the woman wants to stay and not face that kind of stigma, "I ought to say no", instead of, "I'm going away, no". The girl is trying to find excuses to both stay and leave, while the guy is saying that its so cold outside that she wouldn't be able to get home anyways. Keep in mind too that in many versions of the song, including when it was recorded in this time period, the situation would switch halfway through. Where it begins with the woman having to go, and then switches to a different situation where the man is the one who has to leave, and the woman is begging him to stay. The lyrics were made for a certain time period, and once those lyrics are taken out of this context, that feeling does come around, but just listening to the song itself with its upbeat and cheery tone, offsets this.
