To the ones listening in after the 2018 "metoo" controversy that claimed this song is about ignoring a womans right to say no: Listen to the lyrics. The song is quite the opposite. The woman wants to stay with the man, but she has to pretend she doesn't due to what other might think. "Maybe just one drink more", "maby just one sigarette more", and lots of references to what the father, brother aunt and other would think if she stayed. "I wish I knew how to break this spell", she's in love. "I ought to say no no no" because of others she feels she should but she doesn't. Even the "what's in this drink" is her building her defence, to other people she can say she was drunk if she spent the night. It ends with both of them singing together It's cold outside, they agreed on the formal excuses and now she can do what she really wanted, spend the night with him. Not because he wants, but because she wants. You have to be blind (or deaf) to think this is about a man abusing a woman. It's about a strong woman staying with a man in a time where society said she did not have that choice.

@@123axel123 depends on the stage of their relationship. He might have been reminiscing. It's about a man urging his girlfriend/fiance to stay, rather than go out in a blizzard. For unmarried couples to spend the night together in that era was considered scandalous. The woman makes mention of it numerous times in the song, yet even she displays signs she wants to stay ("So really I'd better scurry... Well, maybe just a half a drink more"). This whole stupid thing hinges on one single line in the song ("-say, what's in this drink?"), which is about as vague as you can possibly get and entirely driven by modern perspectives of date rape drugs. Maybe she's a light weight? Maybe it was a particularly strong vintage? Notice that, unlike most people under a drug, she never loses her faculties ("I ought to say no-no-no sir... At least I'm gonna say that I tried.") She's already thinking about what she is going to say the next day to explain why she spent the night in case anyone asks, ffs. Yet as much as she claims to protest, SHE keeps making the decision to stay ("My maiden aunt's mind is vicious... Well, maybe just a cigarette more."). He wants her to stay and she wants to stay -- they're just pondering how it might look based on societal standards of the time. This whole so-called rape connection is based in zero fact. I'd never heard this version of this song until last night on my Christmas radio station, and when I found out this morning that it was a video I was excited to see it, but I never dreamed that it would be anything like this! This was fantastic! I almost felt like someone had the idea for the concept of this by watching the movie 'Bugsy Malone'! Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to everyone watching this 🎄
Discovered this adorable music video on Christmas Eve, 2024. Emily Carey and Harry Collett had such talent and ability even at ages 10/11. I’ve been listening to and watching this on loop while studying in Costa Coffee today, December 27th 2024. Such a wholesome yet somewhat humorous video. Bublé and Menzel’s voices are the definition of soothing and pleasing. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Ikr. I like how they had children play out this song. Especially because it fits so well, with the guy trying to convince the girl to have sex with him rather than go home.
The lost art of a man wooing a woman. I admit I'm a feminist moderate democrat. And I met my husband of 36 years so far by telling his brother I want to meet "that cute boy" his brother. But nothing pleases me more when hubby "chases" me, and I mean for other things, not just sex. It is a dance of love, care, interest, laughter, tough guy with the tender insides. I feel sad for young couples who aren't comfortable "courting" like back in the old days. And here's something a lot of guys don't get: Many, but not all, women LIKE to be wooed, to get attention, to be wanted, craved so bad the guy just cant stand it! Women don't mean to cause pain, but what leads up to love and sex is a dance just like exotic birds in the rain forest. The flashiest bird gets the girl! This song is SWEET, and is infinitely better than rap that calls women bitches and hoes and is all about brutality.
This-- this right here is my favorite Christmas song ever. Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé are both some of my most favorite singers (Idina Menzel is my absolute number 1 favorite, while Bublé is just one of my favorites.) And I get REALLY happy whenever I hear this cover of "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Bublé and Menzel's voices just compliment each others' so nicely and it's just smooth as butter. Both of their vocals are amazing in this cover. I just love it with so much of my being.
I’m here because of a post saying this song was “taken off the radio last year, but WAP is #1 this year. Let that sink in” does that mean anything to y’all?
Bc wap is about a women expressing her sexuality. Not saying that I support them taking it off the radio tho. I do see how people find the Christmas song misleading but I saw some comment actually explaining the meaning of the song and everything.
Look, this is a classic Christmas song. It isn’t inappropriate. It’s a game. They’re teasing and having fun, that’s the point of the song. I like listening to it, and I will continue to do so. Edit: I believe that the way much of this song was intended to be taken doesn’t make sense in our time. When the song was written, it wasn’t socially acceptable for women to spend the night at a mans house. Therefore, he’s offering excuses ‘pneumonia, it’s too cold, I’m worried, there are no cabs ’, that she could offer to others. And hence ‘my father will pacing the floor, my maiden aunts mind is vicious, the neighbours might think, they’ll be plenty of talk tomorrow’. She’s more worried of what might be said if people find out she stayed the night. The ‘what’s in this drink’ was an idiom suggesting that her actions could be blamed on the alcohol, even if in fact there was none in the drink.
@@pop-vk6gs fair enough. So the second part of the song where the man asks whats in this drink does that imply the woman is going to drug him and rape him? And dont forget the fact the song was written in the 40s and the drug was discovered in the 60s and not used as a date rape drug till the 90s.
I really can't stay Baby, it's cold outside I've got to go away Baby, it's cold outside This evening has been Been hoping that you'd drop in So very nice I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice My mother will start to worry Beautiful, what's your hurry? My father will be pacing the floor Listen to that fire place roar So really I'd better scurry Beautiful, please don't hurry But maybe just a soda pop more I'll put some records on while I pour The neighbors might think Baby, it's bad out there Say was that a wink? No cabs to be had out there I wish I knew how Your eyes are like starlight now To break this spell I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell I ought to get home for dinner Mind if I move in closer? So take me to cast you aside What's the sense in hurting my pride? I really can't stay Baby, don't hold out Baby it's cold outside I simply must go Baby, it's cold outside So thanks for the show But, baby, it's cold outside The welcome has been How lucky that you dropped in So nice and warm Look out the window at that storm My sister will be suspicious Gosh your lips look delicious My brother will be there at the door Waves upon a tropical shore My maiden aunt's mind is vicious Gosh your lips are delicious But maybe just another dance more Never such a blizzard before I've got to get home Baby, you'll freeze out there Say, lend me a coat? It's up to your knees out there You've really been grand I thrill when i touch your hand But don't you see How can you do this thing to me? There's bound to be talk tomorrow Think of my life-long sorrow At least there'll be plenty implied If you got pneumonia and died I really can't stay Get over that hold out Baby it's cold Baby it's cold outside
Just imagine if they had the proper lines and both buble and menzel were properly in the music video then it would be even more amazing but give it it's credit, it's a nice charming but quirky version of a natural christmas classic.
The point is it's a more kid- and family-friendly version, I mean it stars kids after all. Kids aren't gonna be singing "maybe just a cigarette more." It's adorable.
Doesn’t this song actually convey Women’s Rights and equality because the woman is making the conscious decision to stay with the man despite the societal norms of the era?
I like this music video by Michael SO MUCH MORE. The song comes off as light hearted and cute. When you watch the original music video, it does seem a little creepy. when she says "maybe just have a drink more" the man points to a corner to get her to look there as he says "put some records on while I pour" and he grabs a glass that's already prepared on the table next to him quickly without making it obvious or looking at it, and distracting her by pointing to the opposite direction of where the drink is, telling her to "put some records on while I pour" so he can get it without her noticing. that particular scene in the old music video version creeped me out. then immediately he hands it to her the drink as she talks about what the neighbors might think. As she's about to sip, she stops before it touched her lips and says "say whats in this drink" THE OLD MUSIC VIDEO IS SO BAD LOL OMG - I hope michael is trying to put more focus on the beauty of the song itself, to help people forget the original music video that was attributed to it. Old music video: th-cam.com/video/7MFJ7ie_yGU/w-d-xo.html crazy how times change so drastically as to what is acceptable in society, and what isn't. Edit: he even changed those lyrics. to "maybe one soda pop more". and the "say whats in this drink' changed to "say, was that a wink?" they should have encouraged this version of the song, I bet nobody noticed these small changes he made so that the old implications of the song wouldn't apply to his version.
This song was written by a guy specifically to sing with his wife. I like to think the guy is worried about the women because she wants to go outside in the freezing cold, and roads can be really dangerous in the winter, so i like to think the guy is just being worried and doesn't want the lady to die in the cold. Sorry about my grammar
Idk why people say this song is about rape. This song is amazing and people have different meaning of the song. For some its about rape, the others its about Christmas and the guy is in love with the girl thats why he doesnt want her to leave. I respect everyones definition of the song. For me, i think this song is beautiful and its not bout rape.
The original song had a woman singing a lyric that said "say, what's in this drink?" The people who are offended by it think that someone spiked the drink to incapacitate her.
Idina: Sorry I stayed at Michael's house, it was just too cold outside
Idina's family: But the cold never bothered you...
DEAD 😂😂😂 Best way to start the day
Idina: let it go!

Happy Holidays and a Merry Christmas to everyone watching this 🎄
bugsy...me and you are getting up there...to our prime!! :) happy Christmas
michael: “baby it’s cold outside”
idina: “the cold never bothered me anyway-“
Followed by “let it go”😉
Christy Tauler oh my gosh- 😂

youtube thug listening to christmas music. savage bro savage.

It's October and I'm listening to it SAVAGE
Same we're such rebels
Same here. What would happen if she stayed. What would he do to her ( ;
this is cutest thing
Ikr. I like how they had children play out this song. Especially because it fits so well, with the guy trying to convince the girl to have sex with him rather than go home.
LOL at least they had the sense to take out the date rape lyrics
Casual Tea x\
@@ratburglerWOAHWOAHWOAH I KNOW ITS OTHER(?) PEOPLE VOICES BUT I DONT THINK YOU SHOULD SAY…THAT
This is so adorable omg
Best Christmas song. No denying.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas!!!!
Southamericangirl42 no, Christmas is aweful, I hate it
*Awful
This-- this right here is my favorite Christmas song ever. Idina Menzel and Michael Bublé are both some of my most favorite singers (Idina Menzel is my absolute number 1 favorite, while Bublé is just one of my favorites.) And I get REALLY happy whenever I hear this cover of "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Bublé and Menzel's voices just compliment each others' so nicely and it's just smooth as butter. Both of their vocals are amazing in this cover. I just love it with so much of my being.
This was adorable and delightful.
Once again, it has begun! I can't wait until Christmas!
Matt P I can’t either 💚🌹
Matt P fuck ye
As someone said. Everybody's all torn up about Baby it's Cold Outside but don't give a damn about Grandma getting run over by a reindeer.

I’m here because of a post saying this song was “taken off the radio last year, but WAP is #1 this year. Let that sink in” does that mean anything to y’all?
Part of the ship, part of the crew.
Me too, lol!
Bc wap is about a women expressing her sexuality. Not saying that I support them taking it off the radio tho. I do see how people find the Christmas song misleading but I saw some comment actually explaining the meaning of the song and everything.
@@zackblack1923 part of the ship part of the crew.
@@jacobdecker1163 part of the ship part of the crew
I agree.
I believe it’s a man trying to court a woman Without courtship there isn’t too much chemistry in a relationship
Alexa Cannon what if all this protest against it was orchestrated to popularise the song again? I don’t actually know I just like conspiracies..
@@pop-vk6gs it wasn't a music video. it was taken from a movie
@@pop-vk6gs fair enough. So the second part of the song where the man asks whats in this drink does that imply the woman is going to drug him and rape him? And dont forget the fact the song was written in the 40s and the drug was discovered in the 60s and not used as a date rape drug till the 90s.
He is the frank Sinatra of our age. His voice is outstanding
Sam Stark YES!!
Sam Stark NO!!
Gordon Gecko whatever
Sam Stark It's not him who sings
Yeah, that's not him thats singing. The guy who sang this sang it in 1944 lol.. Your entire comment is wrong XD its chill though
I really can't stay
Baby, it's cold outside
I've got to go away
Baby, it's cold outside
This evening has been
Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice
I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry
Beautiful, what's your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor
Listen to that fire place roar
So really I'd better scurry
Beautiful, please don't hurry
But maybe just a soda pop more
I'll put some records on while I pour
The neighbors might think
Baby, it's bad out there
Say was that a wink?
No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how
Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell
I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to get home for dinner
Mind if I move in closer?
So take me to cast you aside
What's the sense in hurting my pride?
I really can't stay
Baby, don't hold out
Baby it's cold outside
I simply must go
Baby, it's cold outside
So thanks for the show
But, baby, it's cold outside
The welcome has been
How lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm
Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious
Gosh your lips look delicious
My brother will be there at the door
Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious
Gosh your lips are delicious
But maybe just another dance more
Never such a blizzard before
I've got to get home
Baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me a coat?
It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand
I thrill when i touch your hand
But don't you see
How can you do this thing to me?
There's bound to be talk tomorrow
Think of my life-long sorrow
At least there'll be plenty implied
If you got pneumonia and died
I really can't stay
Get over that hold out
Baby it's cold
Baby it's cold outside
Teddy Mad thank you you don’t understand how much I wanted the lyrics for this kids version
Teddy Mad thx
Zale, look at the lyrics. LOOK AT THEM CLOSELY. THIS IS NOT ABOUT RAPE
Filipe Silva the original song was about rape.
I wrote the lyrics for the animation version

That girl can dance better than I can. Puberty hasn't even hit her yet probably and she looks fucking GORGEOUS.
+xXMintChocolateXx first world problems girl. The struggle is real XD
+xXMintChocolateXx She looks like a mini Nina Dobrev.
+xXMintChocolateXx Yes she looks much better than Idina. Not really her younger version. I think she looks more like Victoria Justice
I know her aha xD
Her name is Emily Carey. She did a video on a channel called SYPC and shes also a really good singer! Feel free to check her out!
Just imagine if they had the proper lines and both buble and menzel were properly in the music video then it would be even more amazing but give it it's credit, it's a nice charming but quirky version of a natural christmas classic.
Even with adults, the original lyrics are rather rapey.
That is true, with the line say what's in this drink.
Liam Davis lol that's why they changed it to "was that a wink?" :))
The point is it's a more kid- and family-friendly version, I mean it stars kids after all. Kids aren't gonna be singing "maybe just a cigarette more." It's adorable.
Stephen Patterson I know that, still imagine hearing idina saying "say what's in this drink" would be nice.
To all the short boys out there, there’s a girl out there for you, and this song proves it
Short boys ensure the puzzle pieces fit together very well indeed! ;)
you have to be able to sing tho lmaooooo
you mean a child 💀💀
The boy will probably sprout up
This comment made me well happy

Aww the kids are adorable
Doesn’t this song actually convey Women’s Rights and equality because the woman is making the conscious decision to stay with the man despite the societal norms of the era?
trueee
good angle to think about this.
I like this music video by Michael SO MUCH MORE. The song comes off as light hearted and cute.
When you watch the original music video, it does seem a little creepy.
when she says "maybe just have a drink more"
the man points to a corner to get her to look there as he says "put some records on while I pour" and he grabs a glass that's already prepared on the table next to him quickly without making it obvious or looking at it, and distracting her by pointing to the opposite direction of where the drink is, telling her to "put some records on while I pour" so he can get it without her noticing.
that particular scene in the old music video version creeped me out.
then immediately he hands it to her the drink as she talks about what the neighbors might think. As she's about to sip, she stops before it touched her lips and says "say whats in this drink"
THE OLD MUSIC VIDEO IS SO BAD LOL OMG - I hope michael is trying to put more focus on the beauty of the song itself, to help people forget the original music video that was attributed to it.
Old music video: th-cam.com/video/7MFJ7ie_yGU/w-d-xo.html
crazy how times change so drastically as to what is acceptable in society, and what isn't.
Edit: he even changed those lyrics. to "maybe one soda pop more". and the "say whats in this drink' changed to "say, was that a wink?"
they should have encouraged this version of the song, I bet nobody noticed these small changes he made so that the old implications of the song wouldn't apply to his version.
But baby its cold outside
Idk why people say this song is about rape. This song is amazing and people have different meaning of the song. For some its about rape, the others its about Christmas and the guy is in love with the girl thats why he doesnt want her to leave. I respect everyones definition of the song. For me, i think this song is beautiful and its not bout rape.
I looked it up and the origin is a man and his wife sung this at the end of parties that they held to tell the guests it's time to go home :
This the world we live in my friend,we humans just don't think strait sometimes...
The original song had a woman singing a lyric that said "say, what's in this drink?" The people who are offended by it think that someone spiked the drink to incapacitate her.
The rape-y lyrics were changed for this version. The original had lyrics like "The answer is no." and "Say, what's in this drink?"
For the original song, I’d understand if someone who didnt know the slang and phrases during the time period this song was made would think that
This is so freaking adorable!!!!!
*listens to the deeper voices*
huh... puberty definitely hit them hard 😂😂😂
