This man is one of the most fiery blues players I have heard. Wonderful phrasing, incredible and intense bends, and not to mention the delivery is raw and does not sound schooled. 🔥🔥
I’ve seen Chris about six times and those six shows were in the top 12 I’ve ever seen out of over 600. He is the most masterful guitarist on the planet, bar none. I’ve talked to him a bit during a set break and I can’t even begin to tell you what an incredibly nice, pleasant and modest human being he is. In 2024 I will see many of my 10 favorite guitarists of all time, including Carlos Santana, Michael Gurley (Dada), Walter Trout, Bernard Allison, Dean DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots), and Michael Timmons (Cowboy Junkies), but I suspect the finest performance by far will be by Chris Duarte in November.
I first heard Chris when he played with Bobby Mack & Night Train. He's always been phenomenal. I worked for Bobby's roommate and that's how I got schooled on the blues that I love playing so much to this day.
Brings back memories...I lived in Omaha from 99-04 and would see him every year, every gig there...Always front row, and always met him after the gigs...Great player ..great guy...Really turned me onto the Stratocaster.
Chris is fantastic, just totally nails it ..brings his own feeling to it just like Jimi & SRV did .. what's even better is the drummer back there playing the kit left handed (ride cymbal on his left, hitting the snare on the beat with his right) just like I do!
Com'on Folks...Chris just plain kills this Jimi Masterpiece....Man this is sweet live, sweet live playing...and truth from that Fender! And Chris Duarte !
I first saw Chris back in 1994. I heard about him thru a very small article in Guitar Player Magazine. Back before the internet you could have secrets and had to work for info! Anyway, he sounded like a player I would like. I went out and bought his cassette tape. lol....I was blown away and kept an eye on the local Live Band section in the paper. Wow, times have changed. But I digress.....When I saw him listed for a date at the local club, I immediately called my buddy and made arrangements to see him. When he performed that night, he rocked! Having played guitar for a few years, at that point, I was ready to go home and throw it in the dumpster. lol Back then, I'd say he was playing more "straight blues" off his first album (obviously). He doesn't always show it but the guy is a serious blues player. He chooses to show more of his rock/jazz influences theses day. But still awesome. Rock on
I remember watching this video sometime in 2009, or 2010. I was in a hotel, in Atlanta. And when I heard this, I cried, I'd listen to it again and I'd cry, again... Every time I listend to it for years, I'd cry. The last time I seen Duarte live, I just got out of jail. And being in jail, we didn't have any music. I went crazy in there for 4 months without music. Probably a month after getting out, I saw Duarte live. And half of that show, I was crying. Any guitar player that makes me tear up, I find quite special. I feel exactly what you're feeling brother. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
1st saw chris at the roxie in boston in the mid nightys , he is just incredable !

Yup! I remember being at this show at the place one apartments bar. Fucking cold outside that night, but Chris put on a bad ass jam. I was with Steve Pryor one of Tulsa's if not the best bluesman.
wow guy you kill't it at the end when it flows out. You're an Artist. how can I say I'm -Proud of you- (for giving yourself to Truth) That's inspiring!
Chris is a great player that is keep Jimi's flame alive, he a true deciple and worthy of the praise we can give him. God bless him. Approved and respected and wished all the best by "Awesome John"
There is no other player I have wanted to see play this besides Jimi Hendrix and this brilliant man, Chris Duarte. Superb. The kind of temperament that reminds me of Jimi Hendrix: humble, inspired, 'capacious'.
Hey man that's awesome, I was 5 years old when this was recorded. Grew up listening this guy, hell Our generation needs a little more of this type of music in their life. Although like it has in the past, music gets worse, and then it eventually gets better. I think music is starting to get better in my opinion. I love some of the Rock that's coming out currently. I just think the world needs a little more Blues and a little less pop, that's why I have a lot of respect for John Mayer. He carries the torch, and shows people our age what real Blues is. Glad to see someone a few years younger than my age watching Chris Duarte. Chris Duarte is probably the best guitar player to walk this planet currently. He deserves more recognition than relative obscurity.
I love when the sound waves just start crashing on the shore around the 8:50 point. Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand? Looking forward to hearing Chris at the Bluesfest in Windsor tomorrow night.
have never heard/heard of this guy but he's got some speed, if not the finesse of so many of the guitarists mentioned in the comments here. there's value in sheer velocity too guys. and he DOES seem to channel Hendrix at times with some of his lines and riffs.
I saw Chris in NYC at Manny's Car Wash, to say he is amazing is an understatement. Watching these vids do no justice to his live shows. He sucks his audience in and holds court like no other. He played close to 4 hours that night, at the 2 hour mark he broke a string, launched into his infamous Shakespeare string changing routine, and when done, played almost two more hours straight.
The Shakespear thing is when he breaks a string he recites a scene from Hamlet while he replaces the string, it's very entertaining and then he just slams back into the song like he never missed a beat!
HOLY SHIT WOW(I'll come back to post a comment/details of reaction after I settle myself, recede my eyeballs, roll up my tongue, retract my jaw, pick up my hands off the floor, and comb my hair back down [after standing on-end !].)
sadly Chris' Fender Guitar has reported Chris for allegedly touching it inappropriately, forcefully and at times with total disregard for the guitars safety....no comment from Chris as of yet.
If instruments could talk. . . My drums would cry in anticipation. They would also call me a hoar. Running around playing on other drums, but you don't touch us anymore. We don't go out of the house. We just sit in the corner, looking pretty, collecting dust. Lol. Play us, or sale us. We're not furniture. Lol
@bluesinaz chris duarte could out play probably a good majority of guitar players, and im sorry but chris plays with wayyyyyy more soul then probably anybody on this planet! if you dont believe me, then watch Chris Duarte- big legged woman at the legends studio. its on youtube. it will blow your ass away.
@racevidfreak i was there too, and he signed my strat, but i honestly thaugh that other guitar player kinda walks over chris, chris did alot of rhythem and not too much lead, thats why i cant wait till i see him w/ the 3 piece haha
I hope you ate doing amazingly well that means your family and. You. We are great. Babies, they keep. On coming around. One baby in particular, when. You come here, he needs good medicine. A brother beat him down. He 7. Come in by . I got you....
This man is one of the most fiery blues players I have heard. Wonderful phrasing, incredible and intense bends, and not to mention the delivery is raw and does not sound schooled. 🔥🔥
amen brother!

This man is one oof the GREATEST guitar players alive. I am honored and privileged to call him my good friend.
Guess Who
Frosty.... IS that you ?
I got chills & other stuff -- his cohesive message/voice is wondrous to behold.
I first heard Chris when he played with Bobby Mack & Night Train. He's always been phenomenal. I worked for Bobby's roommate and that's how I got schooled on the blues that I love playing so much to this day.
Chris is just BETTER, more fiery, more creative, more gifted, more intelligent than 98+% of other blues-rock players.
Make that 99%
still my hero Chris ;)
More talent than we deserve. Chris blew me away the first time I saw him and still amazes me.
This the best iteration of The Chris Duarte Group. John Jordan on bass!
love this guy. total soul. his covers are excellent -- respectful but adventurous.
Chris is such a genuinely good human being. Oh ya. Watch him shred that guitar to pieces. God bless you Chris.
Brings back memories...I lived in Omaha from 99-04 and would see him every year, every gig there...Always front row, and always met him after the gigs...Great player ..great guy...Really turned me onto the Stratocaster.

One of the best versions around. Cheers Chris!
Com'on Folks...Chris just plain kills this Jimi Masterpiece....Man this is sweet live, sweet live playing...and truth from that Fender! And Chris Duarte !

I was at this one.
Place/Club One was a cool little setup with some great live music
The coolest strat player I"ve ever heard
Thanks for sharing this! Dude never got quite the respect he deserved, in my opinion. Going to see him in Omaha, NE tonight! Welcome back, Mr. Duarte!
damn he made me Cry... beautiful

There is no other player I have wanted to see play this besides Jimi Hendrix and this brilliant man, Chris Duarte. Superb. The kind of temperament that reminds me of Jimi Hendrix: humble, inspired, 'capacious'.
Bunch of TH-cam wannabe's have live vids. This one's at the top.
Ben Poole gets close. For a different tempo master, check out Roy Buchanan.
I was less than 1 month old when this was recorded, wow.

I’m sure Chris will be appreciative of your faint praise.
Overplays big time hard to listen to even Jimi who could play fast knew to leave space between the notes
Dang, you guys are good. You make that Fender scream!
Absolutely epic!!
this is what killing your guitar looks like !!! WOW!!!
Very well done
he shut that audience up quickly when it picked up

If this man and Frank Marino were on stage together there would be a portal open up in our universe!
Good rendition man!!
DOPE DOPE DOPE!!!!!!!
The Shakespear thing is when he breaks a string he recites a scene from Hamlet while he replaces the string, it's very entertaining and then he just slams back into the song like he never missed a beat!

EXTRA STRONG !!!
I'm not worthy!!
LMFAO, he'd win first place in America's funniest video's, he has me laughing hysterically
If you mixed Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix and Joe Cocker together...THIS!
!!!!!!
crimes committed on unsuspecting guitars
Why doesn't fender have a Chris Duarte model yet we had a John Mayer signature model. Not right.
cause fender signature models are a con, its a f-ing strat.. stop printing a name on it and charging double..haha
Because John Mayer is famous.
Chris doesn't pimp for tone-less new fender products. notice he doesn't play them either.
I’d rather have a Gibby any day of the week
sadly Chris' Fender Guitar has reported Chris for allegedly touching it inappropriately, forcefully and at times with total disregard for the guitars safety....no comment from Chris as of yet.
