- This is a tape I recently found sent from Ciaran MacMathuna to my grandfather, Larry Redican. It is a recording of Larry Redican, Andy McGann and many accomplished New York traditional Irish musicians in the early 1960s. I made if for my father, also named Larry Redican, who used to dance with the McNiff Irish Dancers.
Thanks for sharing this great history!
Old enough to remember those glorious programmes presented by Ciarán in the early 60's. Tuesday evening & Sunday afternoon were the highlights of the week in our house, "Job of Journey Work" on Tuesday & Ceolta Tíra on Sunday afternoon. This is brilliant stuff & great great playing.
beautiful music and presentation. Thanks Larry for posting this. I had the fortune of meeting Andy McGann in 1981 but had only started to play fiddle in '76 the year after your grandfather had passed.
Happy Saint Patrick's Day Dad,
I finally finished this thing!
love,
Larry

Before I moved to NYC from Virginia, I used to come up about every other weekend to hear Andy McGann at Kearny's.
Brilliant stuff!!
Tunes by set: 1) Buckley's Fancy / The Golden Keyboard; 2) McFadden's / Mama's Pet; 3) Street Player (Reavy)
Was Seamus Cooley in this group....who is playing the Piccolo?
I am pretty sure my dad said it was Jerry Wallace...
@oldflute It was indeed!
It was ...the first I heard playing it was Joe Bourke around 1960.
Hmm. So Golden Keyboard was current in the early 60s...
