So it's like Romaji or something? I forgot what it's called when English words have a Japanese spin on them (like Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 being "Cloudo" in Japan, or "Kuraudo", something like that).
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley it isn’t really a Japanese spin, so to speak. English words are difficult for Japanese speakers to pronounce, and so cream becomes kuriimu, because ku, rii (the extra i causes the word to take longer to pronounce, something which exists in Japanese) and mu are all standard Japanese sounds. Cream, however, is not, as a singular “c” (which becomes a k but is pronounced the same as the c in cream) does not exist, as does a singular m sound (FYI, in Japanese, for most sounds, they end in a, i, u, e, and o, so for the k sounds, there is only ka, ki, ki, ke, ko, and so forth). Basically, the word has been written as such in order to make pronunciation easier. Even for bilingual Japanese speakers who can also speak English, they’ll still pronounce borrowed English words as if they had little to no knowledge of English. “The anime man” (a TH-camr) is a good example of this. He is half Japanese and half Australian, and as a result he can (fluently) speak both English and Japanese, however, whenever using a borrowed English word when speaking Japanese, he’ll pronounce it as a Japanese person almost always would, that is to say, with the previously discussed “extra sounds”, as I’m choosing to call them. He wouldn’t say “ cream”; he’d say “kuriimu”. It’s probably to seem less pretentious or arrogant or something like that. I dunno. I only know certain Japanese words, and I can read hiragana, katakana and some kanji, however I am not Japanese (I used to study it in year 8 and some of year 9; 2018 and 2019, respectively, and I have watched and do watch a LOT of anime), but I wouldn’t be so presumptuous as to declare myself an expert on Japanese culture and verbal nuances and such. I nevertheless hope that this was an informative read for you. Have a good day or night, inquisitive internet stranger.
Love that this was the first recommended video on my feed today. I’ve been watching you since I was about 12 and cooking by myself for the first time because my parents were both working and I was tired of eating chicken nuggets and frozen pizza.
