Why did it take the targaryens so long to invade westeros. If dragonstone is unable to grow food it seems a strange place to settle.
I believe it was not Daenys family's objective, they just ran from Essos and established in Dragonstone. It was Aegon who saw the chaotic state of constant war and conflict among all the kings in Westeros that decided to invade and conquer it.
PS I sorry sorry I thinking that you meant the The Freehold. Tyrion in books question the same thing . I think they were too busy in the east, but before the doom they were planing invasion of Westeros, but then the Doom happen (what bad timing)
Targaryens for the 100 years between doom and conquest controlled trade routes with their dragons. They were probably rich enough to buy all their food.
they also needed those caverns to house the dragons and for the nesting of the eggs. the dragon pit in king's landing is a future structure and far smaller than natural caverns

I just finished "the World of fire an ice" (spanish version), and in the book appears that the Targaryen was one of the most powerful families in the Valyrian freehold, not a minor house between the dragon lords. Can you reference in which book are described the Targaryens as a minor power?. I'm worried about the translation of the books. A kind regard.

I love how it's just a small footnote that she saw a vision of her lands being destroyed. That's exactly how GRRM wants you to see it. But, in reality, it was Brandon stark, using the green sight showing/telling her the vision to leave valryia. It's obvious to me.
