A Scottish car dealer once told me you can find genuine cars all over the country if you look hard enough, as long as you don’t look in Luton, Birmingham, Leicestershire and Bradford. Apparently in these areas the words - genuine, reliable, honest don’t even exist in their vocabulary?🤷♂️.

I had a 2004 1.4L Renault Clio destined for the scrap heap. Got a new job and a company car. Decided instead of scrapping it I would kill it at the Nurburgring. Drove all the way there with a mate in a separate vehicle so I would have a lift back. Never needed it. Lasted every single lap and the Autobahn. Great fun. Would love to do it again
I did the same thing in a diesel Clio 😂 still running 5 years on.
The fact he has a Wii controller readily available at all times tells us enough about this guy. A legend stuck in the past, and shouldn't be ashamed of it.

The limp mode is likely to be the pilot plug on the gearbox leaking onto the electrical pins. Had it on my c class coupe. Turning off and restarting used to stop it for a bit but gradually gets worse. Just unclip the electrical connector (just a yellow ring that you turn) quick squirt of electrical cleaner on the pins inside, let it dry and put it back on. Probably will happen again in time unless you replace the seal but depending on how bad the leak is could last months. Hope it helps.
That and it could also be the transmission conductor plate going bad.

My tought is that he simply didnt turn off the traction control, on the slk when u try to spin the wheel with it on, it just takes away the powwer for a few seconds and it feels like limp mode
Could be a coil. I used to have an E320 that would go into limp mode if I floored it. Drove it for about a year like that until I finally replaced all the coils. But you could be right. My sis has a c230 that does the same thing but she drives easy so it doesn’t usually happen

Reminds me of my Opel astra, fan stopped working and I wired it from lighter wires, limb mode would come and go, also burned tons of oil. Good ol German quality. Sold it for 500€ to a mechanic and it was scrapped few months later.
I´m not sure if this channel is already beyond any of Alex´s wildest expectations. It sure is beyond mine! So excited to see what this can grow into!
love this Alex and the obd port in under the bonnet its the old round 32pin port near the battery which you can get a adaptor to use a obd2 . hope this helps

Also between Top Gear, Car Throttle, and friends in the UK, I, as an American, weird people out when I say aluminum like they do in the UK, and sometimes say boot and bonnet. Next I'll end up buying a Miata (MX5).....what have you guys done to me?!

I had an e class from a similar era that occasionally went into limp mode. Just changing the throttle positioning sensor fixed it for the rest of my ownership. The fact that it happens specifically when you kick down also supports this.
I did the switch thing with my shitey little Punto about 10 years ago. It worked an absolute treat, until I got the ferry from Belfast to Stranraer. I went top deck for a pint and some food and for some reason, one of my 2 dogs or the cat decided to turn to thing on. When we docked, the battery was stone dead. I've never heard so many horns at the same time in my life. I was not popular 😂

I kid you not. Back in the early nineties I bought a Fiat 131 off a teacher for £50, and that had a light switch under the bonnet to supply 12 bolts to the HT coil. It’s Italian, so makes sense. And being a carburettor and mechanical pump engine, when you pulled up to park, you had to lift the bonnet and flick the switch off to stop the engine. I was pi**ing myself when I saw Taylor unscrewing that light switch.🤣😂🤣. But bolting it to the outside of the bonnet finished me off!🤣😂🤣😂. Such great entertainment as always. Keep it up.

Group of mates with clapped out old Cortina’s, Escorts, Avengers and Beetles. Road side repairs, crashes, towing each other home then the final journey to the scrap yard. Happy days when our only worry was which old heap would break down next. Great channel guys and takes a 60 year old back to his youth ☀️
Re: underground tunnels… by the way, Boston has a tunnel that runs “under the sea”. It’s most alarming when you look at the GPS and it shows your car in the middle of the bay LOL
This reminds me of the good ol' FLD (Fast Lane Daily) days, they were a NYC based YT channel, that made the same challenge with dollars instead, it was great fun to watch, a Citroen C4 Picasso on the 'Ring must be fun :P

Few days after the road trip, I found a leaky bottle of Candy Up on my passenger front carpet. Ended up giving my car a horrible smell for the past month or so. 4 out of 5 stars for the Candy Up
