2007 is a JK, totally different gear box. In fact 2003-2006 use a different gear box too. Basically the same process, but you can access the lines on the box by simply removing the sway bar cover. As for bleeding, you can simply jack the front end up and turn the wheels all the way left and right WITHOUT starting the engine... this helps prevent fluid starvation if you don't keep close eye on the level while bleeding.
Video is years old but still relevant. Noticed the box leaking and contemplated taking it to a shop. Now i see this is really something i can do myself. Thx!
I have an '05 TJ Rocky Mtn and the steering has been an issue for a while now. It only has a 2" lift, 32" KO2's with 22lb alloy baja rims. Not even 70lbs total with the tire and rim. I have the Currectlync tie rod and drag link, Fox steering stabilizer and M.O.R.E steering box brace. I know these Mercedes gearboxes are not as good as the Saginaws but would it fail with this modest set up? I had the gearbox tightened between an 1/8 - 1/2 turn about a year ago. It helped but went off road recently and now the steering is starting to get a bit sloppy and wonky again. It has never leaked any oil that I know of, I'm the second owner.
When the Pittman arm puller starts bending get the torch it doesn't have to glow red just start smoking a little to get it give up but this is extreme cases. Like a last resort.
The new input shaft flat spot doesn't align exactly with the position of the old one. Do I turn the new input shaft slightly? What will be the impact on the pitman arm alignment?
I was looking at buying one that comes with a pitman arm attached, so would it be easier to remove the arm from the drag link instead of the box if it's already attached on the new one??
I i stalled mine on my 00 tj and i tried your bleeding method and it does not work. I also got a vacuum bleeder kit and i am getting air out but it seems like its air locked. Tonight i am working on it again and going to break the lines and try to get the air out and try again. Any suggestions on what to look for
Your comment is super old at this point but for anyone else who comes along and reads this thread--you're supposed to fill up the PS reservoir to the fill line, then turn the steering wheel lock to lock 10-15 times BEFORE starting the engine, and then top off the reservoir to the fill line again, THEN start the engine and lock to lock another 5-10 times or so, then check fluid again and make sure there are no bubbles.
Just did my steering gear box. Takes two people to do it. It’s heavy to handle. But can’t find a single video on how to fix the backup light switch on side of transmission. Impossible to get to or unclip the plug.
i disagree. there is not much room to loosen them. i always drop it down with my trans jack with the jeep on the lift. great video. kristopher hill work smarter not harder
nooo. everyone knows you break the lines loose before anything. as someone who works on rusty jeeps all the time I would know. and secondly if you don't unbolt the steering shaft first you wull hate yourself later. and if you cant hold the gearbox with your muscles maybe you should have someone else do it.
Hey big shot. The whole idea of lowering the steering gearbox is to get a wrench on the lines. 2000 TJ this is necessary. Disconnecrt the steering shaft not necessary.
7 years ago and still relevant . Thank you so much friend .
No nonsense, no music, no dumb jokes, just straight to the point and even with torque numbers. Awesome video!

Great video. I’m a novice and new to Jeeps. I noticed my power steering box is leaking. You made me feel confident in doing this myself.

Great video very helpful. One question what size / where did you get the new o-rongs? I cant find the part number
I laughed pretty good when you used your leg, I have done the same thing many times. But love the video, it saved me a ton of time and headaches.
Best video I have seen on this yet! Thanks
Wow so fast and easy earned a subscriber
Thanks for posting this, very helpful. I also replaced my hoses, so I installed them before installing the gear.
Thank you sir, my 1997 looks the same. I'm always working alone so this helps.
Excellent video, clear and concise, thank you.
Great instruction. I especially like using your leg to raise the jack.
Glad you like the video. Thank you for watching!

Jursaw me either. These tools to make automotive technicians mobile
Best how to video. Super job man!
Big thanks for the very helpful video. Can I ask where you purchased the orings for the power steering lines?
If you bought a new steering gear, the new o-rings should come with it.
What size socket is needed for the nut holding the pitman arm on?
Did you ever find out what size?
@@Crimsondust083 32-33mm for metric and standard size is like 1 1/4 or 1-5/16 or something like that
32 mm is a hair big but worked for me
A good sized pipe wrench will work too.
Great video!! Thank you for providing this. It was very helpful.

Good job to the point and no BS 👍🏼👊🏼 thanks for sharing
How long did this take in actual time? Nice video!
Hi ! Nice video ! What is the socket size for the pitman arm nut that connects to the steering box, thanks?
If I remember right it is a 1,5/16 And if you don’t have SAE Sockets a 33 mm should work
Great video. But I can't seem to find the link for the tool needed. Would you send me the link. Thanks

Is this a Milwaukee commercial? My DeWalt work pretty good
Where do you buy a new steering gear box? I live in Miami Fl Thanks
Mine is a 97....is it the same steps or is there something different?

It’s going to be the same thing.

GreAt video keep up a good work 👌💪
Thank you!
Awesome Vid.. You got mad skills :) I got a ZJ that I need to do and I'm sure it's the same procedure.
Is this doable without power tools?
Want to do this myself to save $ but doesnt help if I need to buy a whole lot of gear
Quinten Murray you need power tool to remove the Pitman arm and Pitman arm puller. The rest of the job can all be done with hand tools.
Bugger
Thanks
Quinten Murray glad to help. Thank you for watching!
Quinten Murray you do not need power tools, just muscle.
half inch drive with breakerbar might work on the pitman arm/puller

I don’t sell or ship parts sorry.
