Shade 123 is about the same tone as shade 213, just their undertones are different. Shade 123 is more warm neutral undertone and shade 213 has a slightly stronger yellow undertone from my memory (It's been almost a year and a half since I've done makeup on anyone else!).
I bought two bottles of the Aqua foundation in shade 002 on the Koh Gen Do website. Cant return because they were final curtain! Such a waste of great foundation that I cant wear because I should have got a different shade. :(
Hi! I know it seems like there "aren't enough" shades here, but I only have to use about 5 of these shades from this line to match every one of my clients, from fair to deep. The KGD line is the only foundation line I've been able to do that with. The color matches are really incredible, the undertones are true-to-skin. I appreciate that KGD makes shades that actually work for the full spectrum of skin tones, vs just pumping out a number, with "meh" undertones. I hope this perspective helps, as a makeup artist who has been able to match every client! :)
candice german the problem is that there are only a couple of shades on the deep color spectrum. Which means only a handful of people can use a single shade and everyone else would have to purchase 2-3 shades and create their perfect match daily. This isn’t feasible for most makeup wearers. For a makeup artist that’s a different story because they have to mix and match to fit their clients.
@@TraceTrace25 Hi Tracy! To be honest, I rarely mix shades for any of my clients because the undertones are so great. There was only one time with a very, very olive under tone, medium skin tone client that I ended up using a different product because shade 143 just wasn't warm enough. I've been able to successfully match almost everyone else from fair to deep with just one shade. I say this all just because I don't want anyone to miss out on this foundation. I really think it's wonderful and the quality of the undertones make such a huge difference. I don't know if you follow makeup artist Derrick Rutledge on IG, but he talks about this foundation a lot and is very helpful with giving shades he uses :) I do understand the frustrations people can feel when it seems like they might not have a match in a product line, but I wanted to share my experience in working with this foundation on a complete range of skin tones over the past 4-5 years! I hope it's helpful.

Ok ladies. I'm 33, a mother, and on a BUDGET honey.. what are the top 3 products I should be using for my skin? I'm noticing it isn't as supple and lines are starting. I use proactiv as I have SOME adult acne, but it's going away ever since my tubes were tied a year and a half ago and I got off mirena. I cant afford to go buy a ton of products HOPING they'll work. I have a rudimentary knowledge of skincare from esthetician students when I went to Cos but other than that I'm lost.. help!!!
I'd say less is more imo. Moisturizer, retinoid (used after applying moisturizer to prevent dry patches) you can buy Differin OTC. And SUNSCREEN. Everyday. I like la roshe posay. Facial massage is great too. Check out Dr Dray onTH-cam. She has amazingly informative skincare videos and she's a dermatologist. Since watching her I paired down my routine significantly. My skin looks a lot better, just about to turn 32. Wish I would've started the daily sunscreen earlier and not fallen into the consumer trap of every skincare product under the sun.
Hi Lynette and thank you! I love swatch videos myself, I find them so helpful before buying new makeup. I love all things Koh Gen Do. The Aqua has a bit more sheer coverage than the Moisture foundation. I prefer slightly more medium to full coverage, as I have some surface redness and veins that come through, so I end up wearing the Moisture more. I use the Aqua the most on clients, because it feels like nothing on the skin, is slightly more matte, and works with all skin types: oily to dry and works on all age groups. Everyone does a double take at their skin after seeing the Aqua on, because it feel like nothing, but makes skin look flawless. My personal favorite combo is the Moisture foundation with one pump of the Aqua added, but I know that it's probably not the most practical combination to recommend. Overall, the Koh Gen Do foundations are the most skin-like out of everything I own, the most gentle on my skin, and they are two of my top 9 favorite foundations. Between 002, 013, and 113 is any of them relatively neutral? 002 seems neutral pink on me and 013 more peachy. They didn't include 113 in the sample pack so i can't compare and can't quite figure out which one would work best for me. I wear b10 in Chanel vitalumiere aqua and porcelain in hourglass's vanish stick foundation and can't figure out what might match best
Hi Ashley, to be honest, I really don't reach for any other brand for clients! The colors are so, so good that I don't have to. I think we've just gotten used to seeing 40-50 shade ranges now (which is a great thing, I def want everyone to feel like they are included) but from my perspective, I'd rather have 12 amazing undertones that suit everyone vs 40 that are meh that I have to mix and match. I have been able to match every client from fairest to deepest, cool to warm (usually without even having to mix shades). Thought my perspective might help as someone who has used this line for the past 5+ years! :)

The matches were just so perfect and clients always LOVED the results. I was lucky to get to work as a makeup artist for years and color match thousands of clients with a variety of skin tone and undertone combinations. I definitely understand that not every person with a fair skin tone is a cool pink undertone nor is every person with a deep skin tone warm and red undertone. If that is what you gathered from my reply, then I apologize, as it’s definitely not what I was trying to say. My point is that as a makeup artist, it’s rare and exciting to come across products that I love and that clients also love. The Koh Gen Do foundations were one of only two products (the other was the Becca correctors) that every client took a photo of, so they could remember the product name and what shade I used. I pass these comments from clients along, and my own experience with the products only with the intention of sharing information I think is valuable and helpful. Not every content creator also has worked as a makeup artist and not every makeup artist has the time or desire to work as a content creator. I feel lucky to be able to do both and share information I’ve picked up. I hope this clarifies my point!
I actually don’t know the MAC foundation line, but I do know the Koh Gen do well and the 213 is more yellow than the 123. I generally used it more on clients with Asian backgrounds, as it was a beautiful, true yellow undertone. Very natural! I used shade 123 on caucasian clients with a more European background, with warm, but more subtle yellow undertones. I hope that info helps.

Do you know if this KGD Aqua foundation do oxidize a lot on the skin after a couple of hours? I always have a problem with foundations like NARS, Giorgio Armani & Chanel oxidizing on me after an hour or 2. 😕😕

My most used/versatile shades on clients were 113 and 123. The both lean warmer, but fit a surprising number of skin and under tones.

Is 213 warm lighter than 123 warm?
They are about the same tone, just different undertones. Hope this info helps!
