For those speaking on the "huge increase in quality" for SF2, you gotta realize SF1 came out in 1987 and SF2 came out in 1991. This is a solid game for 1987. At the time, people were playing games like Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, and RBI Baseball. Contra hadn't even come out yet for consoles. Hell, a lot of kids were still playing Atari at the time because the NES didn't really make it into most homes until 88-89. By 1991, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and NEO GEO were already out and the tech had vastly improved.

Oh, how I used to love this game as kid when I was growing up, hooking school and going to the arcades or hanging out at the pizza shops to play it. And the graphics, the colors and the quality of the artwork and music and sounds (although the voice wasn't that impressive for its time) and yes even the gameplay were incredible for their time. And believe it or not, people could actually get consistent fireballs, uppercuts and windmill kicks out in the arcades at the time.

While these are valid points but they hardly touch upon the factual position of SF2 being a huge improvement in every way. I don't think any other game sequel can come close to this.

That's a cool story. I remember they had one of these machines at the Peter Piper Pizza in Chesapeake VA off Sparrow Road. It was in this little alcove mini arcade that you walked up some steps into a dimly lit arcade room. The only time I'd ever played the first Street Fighter because in the 90s Street Fighter 2 was the popular fighting game of the time. But I begged for some quarters from my mom because of how awesome it looked.

What yall dont understand is the standard for fighting games was not even established at this time. Mfs were playing games like Karate Champ on NES were the characters didn't even turn around automatically when crossing someone up. Most "fighting games" were just arcade beat em ups. Very fun fact: Joe was supposed to be the main character of SF1. That's why he appears on the title screen punching the wall. He was replaced by Ryu and became a computer controlled opponent at the very last second.

For those wondering bout the voices. There two distinct versions released. The American cabinets got
    Hand Fire
    Dragon Punch
    Hurricane kick
These voices were done with an accent and to add to the primitive soundboard (advanced for it’s time YM2151) is why they sound muffled. This arcade board preceded the CPS1 which ran SF2 and most of Capcom’s best titles and capcom refined it by adding tons of memory chips. It shows how much more you could do with the 68k processors at the time given the vast improvement in SF2 im terms of everything.
