Cast iron is Cast iron unless the formula has been changed, which Lodge wouldnt do. They remained standing for over 120 years for a reason girl! What other original american historical CI foundry u know still exists?? All that was that u wiped off was fresh loose seasoning that had come off with a little steam. Its not the end of the world and u need major schooling in cast iron and how seasoning acts. Even the most expensive cast iron could loose a little of the young factory seasoning depending on what was cooked in it and how. If ur first meal in it had been deep fried chicken or french fries that would have "SET" the factory seasoning. Doing this a couple of times Really locks in that seasoning. The seasoning is fresh n young. It takes YEARS to accomplish a rock solid fort knox seasoning. This is why I never strip my family heirlooms bcz my Big Mamas, Great-Aunts & uncles Grandparents, my mom's and mother n law have done the hard work for me! I can leave tomato sauce in them without compromising the precious seasoning. If I left it out in the rain over nite...and I Have...No prob! A great solid seasoning is like fine wine..gets better with time. Its inevitable! The more u use it the better the seasoning! Many users have found, including myself since they started pre-seasoning, that if u first lightly scour with a little dish soap and warm water, dry thoroughly and do a round or 2 of high heat seasoning before using will set the seasoning better. If u cook something that creates steam like stir fry or squash or cabbage know that it will loosen up ur seasoning a little. All u have to do is wash it and touch up ur seasoning. It Happens until the seasoning has solid layers...which builds with usage! Frying really sets it. Cooking cornbread in a skillet a couple of times just to set it first is a good and popular way. Some ppl just add a Lot of oil to the mix and then feed the oily Cb to the birds. But know THIS Ur Lodge cast iron is 100% Bonified, Genuine cast iron. If u stripped it to bear iron you will see and the carbon and iron formula makes it so. U need to take a trip to South Pittsburg Tennessee next April and do a tour of the manufacturer to see how the cast iron is being made

They ARE preseasoned. There is no "claim to be". They are. She just needs to gently scour w soap n hot water and season over the mfr seasoning to set it. Lodge outlasted and stood strong when ALL the other foundries had to closed doors for a reason. Bcz they did things right and satisfied the customers. Facts
