    that centrifugal device is called the governor. thats what regulates steam flow to the turbine or in this case engine. if the speed drops so does the governor which then opens the valve letting more steam through, if too much steam is let in the governor automatically regulates it. it's also completely mechanical and doesn't need any electricity to run.

    • @Nico71Fr
      @Nico71Fr  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not a proper governor as it doesn't control the airflow but rather a display one. As explained in the article, it is not possible to make it run as a governor due to the lack of torque of the engine to run a massive governor to pinch the hose, It was the initial plan but after testing many thing, it is simply not possible to do without more torque and metal parts for weight.

    One improvement that could be made is that speed indicator. Add functionality. one more valve inline with the main air turned on and off with the speed indicator. You'll have a speed limit and ultimately a hit and miss lego engine that will automatically use air only when needed.

    I feel like you could put a lego compressor on the back of it, and have a completely self sufficient LEGO engine, besides the motors for the compressor of course.
    It most likely wouldn’t have enough power to move itself provided it had wheels, but it would be neat nonetheless.

    • @Nico71Fr
      @Nico71Fr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it is possible, but this is a little non sense to do it. If I use an electrical motor, I can power the wheel direclty. The steam machine is originally powered by steam (from coal burning), and therefore transform the heat energy in mechanical energy. If you have electrical energy, you do not need a steam transformer to have mechanical power, just an electrical motor.

    • @Nico71Fr

      It would be not unlimited power as I need to pump with my hand to generate air to generate motion, to generate electricity. I would better to generate directly electricity with my hand, with a motor or dynamo for instance. Efficiency can not be more than 1, always energy loss, so no unlimited power, thermodynamic rule.

    I got a question: How does it keep momentum? Is the wheel really that heavy? I made a 2 cylinder (48mm) once and it couldn't even rotate 180 degrees!

    • @Nico71Fr
      @Nico71Fr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A inertia mecanism is essential for me to pass the hard point of the switch. You do not need if you modified your switch, here there is big radius and 5:1 rotation multiplier wich help to have big inertia.

    Where do you heat the water to get the steam? Do you just collect steam and put it into a container?

    • @Nico71Fr
      @Nico71Fr  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a reproduction of a steam machine it do not work with steam but with compressed air.

    Why is it you didn't give me a pump for me to activate this engine? I Have an engine that doesn't even run. Where can I buy the a pump. All necessary parts?

    • @Nico71Fr
      @Nico71Fr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, the pump is not included in the instructions or in the package from mochub because I found that is was not smart to force people to buy lego pump because they probably have already other pump (lego or compressor or hand pump etc). This is clearly written in my website, rebrickable and mochub. I advise you to use lego pump if you have, or a compressor (automotive or heavier), or hand pump for ball or bike with a needle. If you have bought your engine from mochub and it does not work because of the switch, please contact me on the contact form on my website, I will see with mochub to figure out the problem.

      I have not measured but with standard pressure of 2-3 bars, with the stroke of the cylinder and the radius of the crankshaft, it can gives 1 to 3W I think. More if the cylinders and switches are modified and more pressure, which is not the case in the video.

    Hello, I bought this set too long ago and noticed it did not come with the pump as am I building it. How can I pump air into the machine without the shown pump built?

    • @Nico71Fr
      @Nico71Fr  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, you can use any air source with 2 bars minimum and constant flow. For instance bike pump, automotive compressor or Lego pump that you can buy on bricklink. You can connect the air source to the main inlet with a ballon needle.

    What programm do you use for your instructions?

    • @Nico71Fr

      It would be a nice kinetic scultpure in deed. I use ldcad for the CAD modeling and Lpub3D for the instructions, the both are based on the ldraw part library.
