  • Ive just put the lowering kit on my T7, here is my findings so far.
    Als regarding jacking / lifting up the Tenere 700 on a scissor lift, the manual says not to do it, here was my crude solution to make it a bit safer.

    Don't be conscious, you are doing absolutely correct, if your feet touch the ground you will be very much confident, and when you confident you ride better, and when you ride better you will enjoy your trip..so good and very intelligently you doing...regarding that wood stuff you doing Don't worry too much just enjoy your machine...best of luck

    Update. I did the forks too today. (10mm lower)
    And it does help a bit too.
    75% sure I will leave it lowered. It seems so much easier to manhandle at very low speeds.
    But I will update you guys after a bit off off-road and more experience.

  • @johnnytenjobs
    @johnnytenjobs 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like your jacking method especially as your scissor jack plus the sump guard plus the wood is spreading the load across the strongest part of tne sump (the ring of bolts) and NOT putting pressure in the centre of it. You could get a piece of marine plywood and spend time getting the dimensons exactly right then leave it permanently bonded in place onto the sump guard! Or fit a centre stand. Or a heavy duty sump guard with a flat bottom.

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. Yep I think my method seems to work.
      Ordered the heavy duty OEM skid plate so that will be on it soon.
      (Although still not sure you are meant to jack it up by that either as it’s just attached to same points as the basic cowl.... I think. Will report on that once I’ve installed the renew skid plate.

    I am challneged as you are. I live in Medellin Colombia which is a super steep hilly city. I live in the valley and have a Yamaha Bolt for mostly city driving. But It doesn't work well in off-road mountain riding or in pueblos where they use tall speed bumps for speed control. Love Japanese bikes and this was on top of my list but can just barely get my toes down. This could be a solution for me. but if I stop on a steep hill ??? Also looking at KTM 890 S where I am able to get the balls of my feet down to the ground. Thanks for showing me an option I didn't know about!

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you are shorter, but with very good bike skills/lots of experience. Then you can certainly overcome the tallness/ top heavy nature of the T7.
      But be warned. When it starts to go over, it really does go down hard and fast. And very hard to catch it compared to other small/mid sized adv bikes.
      I ended up selling it and getting a husqvarna 701. Which is much more forgiving in the tricky off road stuff.
      (But really missed that lovely engine on the T7)
      I’m actually now on a KTM 350excf.
      Which makes the T7 feel like a bus off road.
      (But obviously is completely crap for long distance or fast roads.)

    If you take the engine guard off and use your lift under the frame you should be fine. The frame of the bike will more than support the weight of the bike.

    Thanks for the tip on jacking the bike. I'll give it a go using an offset of wood like you suggest. Out of interest, did you fit a heavier duty bash plate, if so do you still use the wood to jack up the bike? Nice looking T7 by the way, I have the white and red one but I like the look of it in black. Ride safe!

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. I did fit a heavy duty one. (But then sold bike)
      But the heavy duty one still connects to the same bits of subframe. So it’s still not recommended to Jack it up from it.
      (Although it is better than stock cowl, as it’s more rigid. So pulls on all points more equally)
      I think most people do Jack up their T7 regardless of what manual says.
      But just do it carefully. Maybe add a few straps too to stabilise if working on bike for a while.

      If you've ridden dirt bikes and are of a normal weight and build you will be fine. If you've only ridden road bikes and or aren't very fit, you're going to struggle. I'm 5'7". Lowering the bike is going to negatively affect every single aspect off road. If you keep it on road then lowering it wont matter but if you plan on taking it off road then I suggest improving your skills on a more dedicated off road bike and then enjoy the T7 at its stock height. If youre just doing dirt roads then you should be fine too. Single track is where youll have problems. I am completely used to situations where I have to one foot the bike.
      To biscuitsalive, your videos are very descriptive and to the point. Nice job!

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. Had the lower seat on for fair while now.
      It is definitely not as comfortable as standard.
      Long trips (over hour in seat) I do get a ache in my bum. I find myself standing up lots just to give my bum a rest.
      When I plan any big trips I prob will invest in a inflatable cushion thing.
      But that is only a long trip problem. And it could just be me.
      I’m still glad I got the lower seat for reach to ground. It has certainly helped me avoid several drops.
      I think there are other lower seat options.
      (Do “seat concept” do one maybe?)
      So perhaps look into other lower seat options before getting the Yamaha one.
      But I’ve only tried the OEM one so can’t recommend another I’m afraid.

    • @biscuitsalive
      @biscuitsalive  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To add, I think any lower seat will be less comfortable though. It’s not just the lack of padding. It’s the more bent knee, and it feels like there is more weight on your bum due to body position.
