@@Crunkboy415When Chris Elliot first did this character I thought he was parodying Wally George since I had seen his show many times but had never heard of Morton Downey Jr. It was much later that I found out who he was and made the skits so much funnier for me.
This was one of my favorite running characters of Chris Elliott's - I also think this was one of Dave's best 'straight man' performances ("no I'm NOT checking you out...no I DON'T like what I see 🤣) - I just watched the Don Giller collection of these (I think 4 total appearances)...they are OUTSTANDING!
These are hilarious to me despite being born in 1985. All I needed was to see some Morton clips and, man, this absolutely kills me. I may not have survived had I been alive to watch this all live in the moment.
I adore Chris Elliott. He's been one of my favorite comedians of all time. I remember all of his Letterman appearances, most of which I watched as a kid when they first aired.
I remember him as the Tostitos guy, Ogey from There's Something About Mary, and the snowplow man from Snow Day. Dude has been killin it since the early 90s
This must be a sadly obscure reference for these new internet-raised clueless "know-it-all" generations. This skit is spot-on genius. I used to stay up late right after getting home from an afternoon-schedule job and wind down with a beer and my feet up. This brings back good memories especially of those insane self-obsessed heady 80s. Morton Downey, wherever you are, let 'em have it!!!
Really inspirational to see Chris overcoming adversity and still putting those severe skin issues to good use a decade later in ‘There’s Something About Mary.’ Heartbreaking, but inspiring all the same!
i for one can't wait to stay at the omni i am REALLY hoping all these Chris Elliott clips are a lead in to Elliott himself reminiscing about his favorite moments. He's missed!
The sad Jerry Springer era had already began before Jerry came on the scene. Chris was imitating a politically charged tabloid host named Morton Downey Jr. At the time, I don't the New York series was syndicated nationally yet or at least not widely. A lot of viewers like me loved this but were unsure what it was quite about.
Why was Jerry Springer sad? I enjoyed the ridiculous chaos of Springer's show. Springer was actually very intelligent and thoughtful in real life. I knew him long before his crazy talk show
I remember watching this when it first aired and it cracked me up! You really need to be familiar with the Morton Downey, Jr show to fully appreciate this video.
After he flicked his tumor Dave covered his eyes with his arm long enough to make me think he was actually getting a bit nauseous. There is NO ONE that can prance any better than Chince.
If you're not old enough to remember The Morton Downey Jr Show, you can't appreciate what a masterpiece this is.
Morton Downey was ok, Wally George was better!🤣

It’s so great seeing these Chris bits after all these years!
Nothing says "80s talkshow TV" like a hotel promo ... 800-THE-OMNI

Everything Chris did on the Letterman show was gold.
I remember this, Good Comedy times...I was still in HS. Aaah! Where does the time go?
Chris Elliott played so many great characters on the show.
I adore Chris Elliott. He's been one of my favorite comedians of all time. I remember all of his Letterman appearances, most of which I watched as a kid when they first aired.
when Chris did William Shatner singing Rocket Man, genius!!
Another great running bit from Chris.
My God, this is such a perfect takedown of Morton Downey Jr.
Lol even the audience booing a guest is spot on. Morton downey show was a circus
I saw Morton live in concert when he went on tour in 1988! This performance is a spot on imitation!
I remember him as the Tostitos guy, Ogey from There's Something About Mary, and the snowplow man from Snow Day. Dude has been killin it since the early 90s

Woogie
So funny! Everything Chris Elliott did on this show is amazing.😂
Good memory Dave, hilarious.
I'd forgotten about this character. Leno, Marv Albert, Brando, guy under the seats and more. Chris Elliot is a funny guy.
Two Chris Elliott videos in a day, I had to check if he was still alive.
They should bring back his old tv show. Thirty years later and he’s still a newspaper boy!
i for one can't wait to stay at the omni

Great impression!
"Ba boom" gawd he is funny.
He did a callback to this character in his role as Woogie in THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY. Pretty cool to see its origin.
Thought that was Ray Ramano for a second
Brilliant instantly. Downey….
Morton Downey jr paved the way for the tabloid talk shows of the 1990s
He was the OG

Did you know that Wally George is the father of the actress Rebecca DeMornay?
Morton Downey Jr. was syndicated from the start... I think that was the whole concept. I watched it from Florida in the 80s.
He even included the hotel ad.
So. Much. Smoking.
That wasnt exaggerated if you ever saw Morton Downey's show
Morton Downey Jr chain smoked.
Chris is impersonating him.
Letterman likes (or liked) cigars. Who cares?
@@JasonCombs-g6l Just an observation. Nothing more.

Man I forgot Letterman smoked.
Wow! This is a classic.
THANKS
Hahaha wouldn't mind seeing the rest of these again....
The wart! Oh God!!!
Not warts. Skin tags. Chris is parodying Morton Downey Jr., who famously had a couple large skin tags on his face.
What a pro
Legend! And Letterman was pretty good, too.

That's a skin tag, not a tumor.
Morton Downey Jr had a few large skin tags on his face.
It's not a tumah.
classic
He was trying to be like Phil Donahue, Morton DowneyJr
------------------------- really ...., show could turn anything under the sun or under the seats into entertainment....thanks4sharing
edge of my parents trailer home bed
There is another when talks about The ruskys 😂😂😂😂
Love it, I think it was Morty who escorted Chris to the studio
Is there another "Morty?"
That was not Morton Downey Jr escorting him in the beginning of the clip
@@thedude4672 I meant Robert Morton, Dave's producer.
VERY FUNNY GOOD MEMORIES
Funniest Thing Ever.
I'm sad that Chris Elliot died from that terrible skin condition.
The moles!
He always called people pabulum pukers.
I don't think Chris would like Buck ees.
Did downey have those growths?
Looks like Chris Noth.
beyond funny, nearly in the realm of what is sane at the grounded level of pop culture take to the extreme . almost too funny . seriously
Those boils are absolutely disgusting.
This is how Fox happened.
RIP
This is visually disturbing
Letterman overrated no talent.
Those warts were perfect.😆
Skin tags, not warts
