This was great Jim, really brought me back to a formative time in my life. A really special album that changed my perception of what music is at a fairly young age. With that said, Frances the Mute is a top 3 all time album for me. Hope you are able to get around to it.

These are guys who have a wide, wide appreciation of music, and it's done nothing if not given them a richer pallet to draw from. And 12:23 onward I consider one of the greatest moments in music.

All these years later, and Televators still hits me. Love this band.
And soon I hope you'll make time for Frances the Mute. I'd argue it's their masterpiece.

You've got to listen to the edited version that this dude made on TH-cam where he cut out some of the ambient noise sections and put Frances the Mute (the song) on the front of the album as it was originally intended. It takes the album to a whole other level of greatness - it makes it a totally complete piece. I don't know whether Frances the Mute or Cassandra Gemini is the best song on the album, but it's one of the best opener/closer combinations I've ever heard. Here's the link...

"Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt" is probably my favorite TMV song , and among my favorite songs in general. I'm not really the music guy , so i can't really talk about like song structure and go ahead and call it genius, but it just checks everything i want from a song. It probably has to do with things on a personal level, some of which i don't even get. Thanks Jim and happy birthday, i hope you listen to other albums as well!

Absolutely love TMV. My introduction to them back in 2003 was via MTV2, believe it or not. To me they're where Santana, King Crimson, Rush, MC5, and Led Zeppelin collide. Happy Birthday BTW.

Televators was the first song I ever heard by the Volta on their now pretty legendary performance in 2003 on MTV (from the Electric Ballroom). I remember thinking: What the hell is this?! Sounds like Floyd, sounds like Zeppelin, sounds like other things I know but can't name all put in a blender. I was instantly hooked.

Can't wait for more Mars Volta full album listens from you. Though their music is SO dense and compact with ideas it feels as though maybe listening to individual tracks might be more digestible than a whole album. Then again you have that wonderfully massive box set that you wouldn't want to go to waste for possible videos. Any album you choose to do next will great but I can't wait for Frances the Mute, though you've already listened to a big chunk of it with Cassandra Gemini LOL.

  • @iroveashe

i think you'll like the track Frances the Mute (it's a "secret" track of the album of the same title), it's about 15min and imo it encapsulates their whole spectrum

I've had the pleasure of seeing the Mars Volta live about 5 times. They are amazing live. 2 1/2 hour set on Frances the Mute Tour. Seek out Scab Dates Live album and hear Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt . It has 3 parts to it.
Keep up with the great videos.
