The last boss in Furi is a non-fight but it isnt a joke, but rather a part of the story. The fact that the boss is givin it her all and then some, and yet you beat her without breaking a sweat shows: 1) how desperate this world is to keep you in that prison 2) how insanely powerful Stranger really is compared to the inhabitants of this world 3) how much of a danger you pose to the world

It's meant to make you sympathetic towards your jailers as you kill a near defenseless young girl throwing her life on the line for the greater good. Shortly after you discover your purpose on the planet and you're given a choice if how to procees. That experience is meant to guide you towards the true ending.
Which he found, because he says the last *but one* boss is weirdly easy. He gets it, don't worry, it's just that throwing away a whole boss fight is a bit much to make that point.
For anyone on the fence about Furi, I'm a few bosses in and it's showing off some really smart design with a lot of them. The second boss builds up your core skills (especially parrying) so that you're suited to take on what comes next, and the third boss has a first phase where you are the primary entity dictating the pace of the battle as his rotating shields (think Trauma Center bomb) that are only damaged when shot shoot back and leave you with a zillion bullets dancing around the playing field. Shit's fucking RAD.

This isn't the sort of game that is meant to be engaged in the same way that weekly reviewers engage with their games. Yes it may only take you a few hours your first time through if you are you know good at video games. Personally it took me 9 hours however I spent time practicing and "gitting gud" playing each boss many times until I had near perfected the game on both difficulties. Suffice to say I have my platinum trophy and all I have left to do is beat the optional last boss on furier mode and get S ranks on each boss individually. I could also practice on the speedrun mode to get a higher ranking on the leader boards, I'm at between 500-600 atm but I feel I could easily get into the top 100. The game openly thanks the likes of both dark souls and devil may cry's creators thus I think it is no surprise that the game went for the shorter but designed to be replayed structure.
I felt like playing it again these days, and why not try the Furier mode, right? I mean, I've beat it already. WRONG! Couldn't even get past the first boss.
It's like a continuation in difficulty yeah. Like the last phase of the first boss in furier is pretty similar to the last phase of the last boss on furi. I recommend you try the speed run mode before even trying furier.
To me this game felt like an evolution of those hard as hell arcade games where you had a long series of increasingly insane bosses. Except that they took out all the BS between bossfights. Its also what a good afro samurai game would be. Yahtzee actually gives this game pretty high praise for his range of praise. I mean generally he oscillates between insinuating that a game is made from literal pressed fecal matter, and a mildly passing fancy, and he was fairly positive.

I mean, The Beat is intended as much, much weaker than the other bosses, but she's also not a "joke non-fight." Her position is more to show how truly powerful The Stranger is, as she has rather weak attacks on her own and needs to rely on running away and using turrets to even do anything and once you get to the final phase where there are no more turrets, nowhere left to run, and her ace in the hole completely failed, her staggering, pathetic movements and dialogue are essentially intended to induce empathy in both the player and The Stranger.

A young target demographic isn't an excuse for an Insomniac game to be too easy. The Ratchet and Clank series was made for a younger audience and some of those games are hard as balls.
Maybe if you turn the difficulty to max in the 3 games that have difficulty settings; maybe it's my experience with them, but the games aren't "hard as balls", usually. There's some challenge, it's never trivial, but they aren't that hard.

But the remake, which is availible on every current-gen console except the Switch, is legitimately one of the best games of all time, if you use the original tank controls. It takes maybe ten minutes to get used to.
you know, i realized something in the game, when the bunny rabbit man(I know his name and I dont want to spoil it) says that the "Jailer is the key, kill him and you'll be free" at the start of the game, he is being literal. once you kill a jailer, the gate to the next floor opens. So that means that they built the prison and somehow made their own lives the key to each floors exit, probably as some kind of fail safe in case one of them dies, the others will know and be aware of what they need to do.

Okay, that was a surprise, seeing Song of the Deep was made by Insomniac, but then I remember that Timbo, the Bad Ass Elephant was made by Game Freak and Sega, and that was an Indie title as well.
Glad I'm not the only one who saw Song of the Deep and immediately thought Aquaria. The similarities, based on what I've seen of SotD, are really quite staggering. Even the story almost exactly picks up the sequel thread Aquaria left hanging, with the only difference being that the child is going from above water to under water as opposed to the other way around. Man, Aquaria was a really good game.
I really wish there was a way to fight him. I wanted to see how he fought. I know he teleports around but it wouldve been so cool to get a "secret" fight/ending if you beat him
Yahtzee, in FURI if you press X during the walking segments your character auto-walks so you don't have to put up with the camera bouncing around every 5 seconds fucking your controls up. It makes up for it but the controls for the walking part still shouldn't be bad in the first place lol. But I do wish more games used auto walking more often in story driven parts if you don't feel like awkwardly following the character leading you to the next part of the game

Out of the first 4 games, only "Deadlocked" was difficult, and that was only if you put it on the 4th or 5th/highest difficulty.
