Brilliant. Manages not to speak down to anybody nor to kiss arse, just be entirely natural both with his Lancastrian roots and his exceptional talent for communication. Nice to see he managed to slip in some impressions - going seamlessly into Alan Bennett... and his Boris is, er, um, as the great Emperor Claudius might once have said, however, um, improbable that he ever, err, did so, jolly well spot on, wot!

Another Honorary Degree, this time for a impressionist. Have we forgotten what makes people worthy and deserving. We really need to change what we value in people.

Most graduates are impressionists of their abilities which Universities encourage so the honorarium is a parody of the system.

Nice guy, but these honorary Degrees are wrong. Students have to work hard to get one, not just be given one. They are simply de-valuing the status of Degrees.

It’s PR, pure and simple. The student body recently appealed for members for some governing body at the University. What struck me was they were seeking “quality people”. The status of modern degrees are already devalued when that type of language defines the people they wish to sit on their boards.
Sadly, having graduated from there over two decades ago, I witnessed the educational decline in action as loans replaced grants. Degrees, en masse, mock the University sector. Students aren’t working hard on simplified degree courses. Once, only the best 5% made it there. And of that intake humanities were a focus in the proper Universities. Now even Leicester has abandoned the vibrant multitude of humanities one could study in favour of management degrees. It’s fast becoming a joke.
