    / @ajrestoration Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back. This is a Vintage Wesco Oil Can Oiler my dad used to oil his car and lawnmower with. This needed some love from AJ Restorations and since it was my dad's I thought it should have a beautiful mirror finish.
    This was my first attempt at a mirror finish and I can tell you it was a ton of work and elbow grease.
    I hope you enjoy the video.

    Where did you get my grandfather’s oiler? He has one exactly like this.

    Great video, and great job! Couple of questions though... did you pull the dent out before polishing? And why didn’t you just chuck the jar up in your drill press for the sanding? You’re going to wear your hands out prematurely doing it the hard way. (Ask me how I know)

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the compliment! The dent was not removed, I like to keep some dents as it keeps some history with a new look. I tried to use the drill press but I could not find a way to safely secure it. I did enjoy doing it with my hands, it was a lot of work, but I have had worse, I liked it. I could get a good feel of the tool, With a powertool I felt rushing it would ruin the experience

    I see you have three hands...that would make things much easier! I have a small collection of oil cans and thinking of doing one in a mirror finish, how long did it take to get that beautiful polish done? How did you get the dents out? thanks! Great job it turned out fantastic!!!

    We had an oil an identical to this on the farm I grew,up on. It was stainless steel. Was this one?It sure looks like it. Also

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This one is magnetic and had small traces of rust. To me that makes me think it's a kind of mild steel. Could be low-grade stainless too.

    Why not paint ? Why just primer ? Isn't it more likely for it to wear out sooner ?

    • @AJRestoration
      @AJRestoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No the primer like that is fine for my intended use, it has good protection against oils. If the tool were to stay in the sun for extended periods then yes it should be painted. I liked the color of the primer and decided to keep it that way.

    Really love the polish and color choice. White with the polished metal and brass looks wonderful! Great job!

      Thank you very much! I also liked the off white color. It compliments the silver and brass. It was either that, or a dark green.
