It is NOT possible for Russia to negotiate with the West or Ukraine because they have NEVER honored any of the agreements made with Russia. Why do all these Western commentators fail to acknowledge that the refusal of the West to absolutely rule out Ukraine's entry into NATO makes the negotiations they talk about ridiculous.

"The West" does not want Russia happy or prosperous. It's been a Neocon wet dream to put (first the Soviet Union, then) Russia out of business, parcel it into marionette-staffed statelets, and get at the resources. "Negotiation" is the wrong term for how a Russia-Ukraine peace will be achieved. Russia will dictate its terms for all of its principal objectives, and there will only be negotiations with respect to small details on the shape of the new border.
    Non-negotiable (for Russia):
    1) Ukraine is de-nazified and demilitarized.
    2) No NATO membership (ever).
    3) Recognition by Ukraine AND all of NATO that captured/absorbed territories are now LEGITIMATELY part of Russia.
    4) Autonomy for the Russian-dominated oblasts in southern Ukraine, and/or a referendum to decide if they want to be absorbed by Russia.

Even if only West Ukriane join NATO/Europe, they still have too much people, they still have too much corruption, and they still have too weak economic. People from Ukraine usually don't want to follow any laws and don't have leaders like Putin who can force them follow any laws. And they still have a lot of nationalistic veiws what never be accepted by many countries from EU. People from Ukriane for ages flourish when they side with russians and suffer when they side with russian enemies

Russia is going to carry-on munching its way into the former Ukrainian territories, certainly east of the Dniepr... Unless the Kiev regime is either ousted, or collapses. The longer the abhorrent Kiev regime remains 'in power' - the more territory will be consumed by Russia.

Why on God's green earth would Russia agree to Ukraine joining NATO? I'm afraid this guest isn't making a whole lot of sense.

Jesus Christ! Geoffrey Roberts does not take a breath, when he speaks. This bores the hell out of his listeners.

Roberts may be on point with his analysis of negotiations but I find it insufferable listening to his neurotic stuttering speech pattern.
