Hi Garrett. Due to an accident in’85, I lost the tip of my left index finger and it bends at the hand/finger joint. I’m trying to learn lefty but I’m right-handed. So strumming is awkward and I have no pointer finger. I’m easily discouraged should I just move everything down, thumb, middle, ring and hook bottom string with pinkie? Thanks for any suggestions. Randy
Yes usually the thumb plays the top 3 strings EAD called the Bass strings and the fingers pick the bottom 3 or high strings GBE he uses his bottom 2 fingers for a plant to stabilize his hand and you most certainly can use the other fingers and plant only the pinkie that is kinda standard for finger picking so you will be perfectly fine Have fun , I used to get frustrated so easily because I have a lot of medical issues such as back shoulder and neck issues and now carpal tunnel but I ran across a video of a guy who plays with his feet because he has no arms on u tube (just type it in and it will come up ) and I said if he can work around his issues I most surely can he’s so inspirational and made me realize every one has things going on and that’s why guitar is AWESOME because if you can’t play a chord like a C or F in a standard way you can just find an alternative place to play it that makes it easier for you also using a Capo makes it easy to change things to open chords and a key that you can play they are cheap about 6-12 dollars so Rock on and Praise God
