OSE (or BX) with 5e mechanics is my simple explanation. The thing about random stats is it gets you out of playing that same old character you play every time. It's a feature not a bug.

Good overview. I'm a big fan of the game.
I think it deserves all of its awards, but especially the one for layout design. It's so efficient to reference in the middle of play due to how the rules for each topic fit across a single spread and the monster stat blocks, magic items, and spells give just the details you need with concise writing.

Good point! I should have mentioned that too. It’s very easy to find and absorb the rules as you need to in that book.

Nice overview. Balanced and factual. I'm a huge fan of the system. I switched my group from 5E to SD during the kickstarter (I was given a review copy) and we had so much fun playing that we switched systems in the middle of my campaign. Keep the great reviews coming.

My house rule for the stat problem is to allow player to swap two of the rolls. If player wants to be a wizard and rolled low intelligence, they can swap it out with the highest stat rolled. I don't think that makes a pc overpowered.
