    It's interesting comparing your footwork and olympic sabre fencing footwork, how you wind up way more than they do, and the almost abscence of double hits here in comparison with them

    • @grayblackhelm6468
      @grayblackhelm6468 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Shinwoo K Olympic fencers aren’t concerned with staying alive. That’s really the only difference.

    • @shinwook5145
      @shinwook5145 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha yeah, the rules on olympic saber allow for (even encourage) a lot of double strikes.

    • @grayblackhelm6468
      @grayblackhelm6468 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shinwoo K THEY ENCOURAGE IT?! Are you kidding? No, it all makes sense now. Absolute disregard for the guard. I’m not doing this.

    • @shinwook5145
      @shinwook5145 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Olympic saber fencing is a SPORT. HEMA is a MARTIAL ART. Obiously, there are differences. But I think both can learn things from one another. If you treat fencing as a martial art, is ridicolous... because it is NOT a martial art. Is a SPORT. Don't treat it like a martial art :)

    • @grayblackhelm6468
      @grayblackhelm6468 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shinwoo K Why? Why would we not treat it as a martial art? So calling it “Electrified tag” is justified?
      I’ve been trying to figure it out, both from a logical and physical standpoint. And now I discover it’s little more than a game. And I find myself just as confused as before.
      Thank you for your time. And for the answers you’ve provided. I am... considerably... disappointed. But at least I have answers. So thank you.

    Hey, I'm curious, have you ever attempted to have a sabre and pistol match? I'm not sure what the best way to emulate that would be, possibly by just using conventional low powered bee-bee guns? not certain how many would be able to show the proper inaccuracies off, or if that would be a factor in close combat. I feel it would add a fun bit of dice rolling to less professional competitions, and add a new dimension into understanding how napoleonic era officers would fight.

    • @Overdrawn_
      @Overdrawn_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I personally dont see the point. The better shooter will win and there would be no swordfighting involved. Start the fight > Both shoot > most likely a double.

    • @ninjatakes4321
      @ninjatakes4321 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that might be true, but as long as the two start close enough to the point where a quick sabre strike is faster than readying a pistol, I think a pretty interesting mind game could take hold. a similar thing occurs in a reenactment game I used to play, where in a bayonet duel the opposition could switch to ready their shot at a moment's notice, but be quite vunerable in the meantime. I'm very curious if such a mindgame could exist in real circumstances, or if it only holds weight because of the game's restrictions.

    • @Overdrawn_
      @Overdrawn_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I imagined the bout being 2 oponents with sabre and pistol already in hand (like XIX century officers did). Being close and having the pistol in the holster changes the situation but you still can unholster your gun with off hand while defending with the sabre in the main hand. A lot of variables are involved: how close is close? do i have room to just run away and unholster my gun? Will we end the bout after succesful shot?

    • @jahja7941
      @jahja7941 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would keep the opponents close in melee as if they moved apart they would shoot and this makes the game more tense

    These sabers are almost straight in comparison to polish and oriental. it is about 5cm deep curved, to feel technical and tactical difference u need 7-8. That sabers are completely unlike swords

    why tf u put ur arm behind ur back whats the point

    • @thepixelstash3078
      @thepixelstash3078 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idea is so that your opponent can't snipe your hand or your wrist, because if the arm is left out in the open, they can be tempting (and painful) targets. Some people instead consider putting their hand on their hip adequately removed, but either way, it also looks really cool in my opinion.
