    The Phenomonology of Lightboards

    I first noticed this when I was 5 minutes into the first video of yours that I watched. I ceased paying attention for the next 5 minutes as I imagined the technique you described. Something then told me I was wrong and that you actually had developed super-human talent. I'm glad you cleared that up for me. I'm enjoying the channel and your videos, thanks for sharing!

      Imagine yourself writing symmetrically: the dominant hand does its thing, and the other hand does the same but flipped over left-to-right. The gripping hand goes in the other axis, and the *other* gripping hand gets you up to the quaternions but that's for another lesson.

    🤣🤣🤣 I'm glad you made this. Maybe I'll link this video to all of the people who are amazed by how you're seemingly writing backwards. Illinois Energy Professor (Dr. Ruzic), and many lectures from MIT/Standford opencourseware (to name just a couple) use these lightboards too.

    It's a great setup. The concept is so simple but I find it much easier to follow than other formats, like slides, or digital writing.

    Sir. You are a wonderful person. Your lectures on Austin and Harts theory made me to follow you. I really enjoy your lectures.

    I feel dumb for not catching on, But this was probably the least click bait-y way to retain so much attention. I applaud the simplicity.

    I was just watching a lecture and my brain was breaking because of the way the professor was so naturally writing in "my" perspective on what appeared to be a pane of glass in front of him. After the explanation, it makes a lot of sense, but my brain was so broken by it (or maybe my brain was broken from watching lectures about cost accounting), I was having trouble fully grasping what was going on. This video helped. 😂 Thank you

    I think using a mirror + tilt shift lens would make the lightboard effect even better than a normal lens + glass. With a mirror, your body would appear in front of the text, instead of behind, and then the tilt shift lens would hide the camera, and make it seem like you're facing directly in front of one. Best of both worlds.

    • @matthewmonteith6292
      @matthewmonteith6292 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you elaborate?
      How would he appear behind the text?

  • @ubaidullahpandit
    @ubaidullahpandit 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Tell Adam to flip your image too, not just the text. Why should you be laterally inverted? 😀
    By the way, thank you very much for your brilliant tutelage. I have subscribed to your channel and I've watched almost all of your videos here.

    Thanks a lot for this and all the other videos. While you do an amazing job to present the material professionally and in an entertaining way, I really admire, how matter-of-fact you present these controversal topics, and make it clear, you present the material, not your opinion. This helps a lot to just learn from it (even as I only watch this for fun ;)). Great job and thanks a lot!

    I figured something like this is what you did, but I was curious to know the details. I'd like to try to build one of these.

  • @Juan_lauda
    @Juan_lauda ปีที่แล้ว

    The left hand is the give away. But certainly ingenious.
    As we try and be accurate in our words on this channel we should be clear that the mirror does not flip the image. The observer (the camera) is reversed.

  • @rkotera
    @rkotera ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for making this video. My first thought was you were standing in front of a pane of glass in front of a mirror. I couldn’t figure out the camera placement, though.

    That the image was flipped I found out long ago. It was clear that you wrote on glass. But also writing backwards? Nah! That would be something. So I started looking for clues. And I found one very easy, quite fast. Your jacket! You wear a normal man's jacket. But the buttons (and therefor als the button holes) are positioned as a female jacket. Instead of buttons right, button holes left, it was just the other way around, like a female jacket. But female jackets have a different cut. So, conclusion, the image got flipped. But, yes, it's great fun to see someone writting backwards with that speed.

    yes! i asked this myself instantly
    -but your notes sometimes seems to appear behind you when a hand or arm is in the way..- (well, not really true after rewatching the video that i first saw)
    guess i thought a software would trace the pen (maybe is the board was tactile..) and then put everything to the back

    Hey - I'm a Geoffrey Caplan too - though with a different spelling. Given the Geoffrey isn't a Jewish name, we're a vanishingly rare species. You're only the second I've come across anywhere on the globe. We're a tribe within a tribe! My parents were particularly confused, because I'm a Scot and they gave me the English spelling of Geoffrey...

    Cool, a real quality thing. Thank you for helping out of Ryle's radically empirical universe. Please don't bother yourself, didn't you just gave ontological proof that Descartes' mind body dualism, the cartesian coordinate system and, or god exists? -- No, it's you, Dave and the camera; mais bien sur!
