I used to go to many amateur jazz concerts.... performing jazz standards like summertime, black coffee, centerpiece, etc.... often their performances would be better than a pro. not technically better (real talent, you might say)... but more emotional. an old man, 60+ years in age, singing "I can't get started".... has more pathos than sinatra ever had in his pro version. performers who have something to say...... should say it. same with cardi. heartfelt music can still felt.
