Great to see the community coming together to help others not waste money on these scrolls. A few weeks after I started playing I came across a few players crowded around a shrine in Vvardenfell, and I had no idea what it was. Genuinely thought it was something to do with a quest. If I didn't have guildies to ask for help, I more than likely would've bought them from the crown store.
Thank you so much for this video, I've started this game about a year ago and i actually had spent real money on these things. Vampire cure. I'm glad content creators are working together and letting the newbies know about this. You are amazing !
I got the impression that the werewolf/vampire bites and cures really got a lot of people! And of course, I am merely paying it back - content creators really helped me navigate the game when I was just starting off myself, so it is the least that I can do now
Edit: You now get a free mount once you reach lvl 10! Hey! There’s a lot to say about all of these different items and services that can be attained in-game for gold or for free! Rather than creating a long-ass video that goes into extreme detail over every possibility, I quickly summarized everything. If you’d like to learn more about any one particular notion, I’ve linked the works of some amazing ESO content creators that further elaborate on the topics mentioned here! Alright, brb, time to go spend my crowns on those celestial crown crates and get absolutely scammed by Pacrooti Join our community: discord.gg/tamrieltradesecrets
Was just about to comment on the horse being free... See you already got that info in there. I think a lot of new players will simply assume you have to pay for things when they don't know you can get it for free or use in game gold.. Luckily I didn't fall into that trap when I started, and to date I've never spent any IRL money except for base game and the plus subscription. After 2 years of playing I don't feel like I'm missing anything. The few things I bought from the crown store, like storage coffers, I bought with the crowns that come with the plus subscription.
Slow mount speed can be also further reduced by doing introductory quest into Cyrodil to unlock Continous Attack 1 passive that gives permanent Major Gallop, its 100% safe and pvp free. Tho its very weirdly phrased and a lot of people thinks that you need to capture a resource in Cyro for it to work. Alternatively craft Adept Rider in training for the noobie so he/she can move around quicker while leveling faster.
Nice video! Thanks for compiling all of that and putting it all in one spot. There was nothing in there that I didn't already know, but that took 4+ years of game play. Newer or more casual players will find these tips a godsend. Wish this video was released back in 2016!
Moved to ESO from wow to play casually after being a hardcore raider for 10 years. Been checking ESO videos and channels to learn more, but I must say your channel is the most efficient, cool, and empathetic that I've come across. Honestly, it's even therapeutic somehow. Great work Arttea!
Don’t forget you can also get some of the best looking mounts in the game through the seals of endeavor system. It takes a while but the quests for the seals are quite easy to do.
Awesome content. I started ESO about 2yrs ago and was very lucky and a great guild invited me in! I'm still there, lol. - I love seeing you help new people !! :)
Thanks Arttea, I've only started MMO's 12 months ago, I learnt from TH-cam vids like this the do's and don't for new players, I didn't realise crafting was a daily to make gold, any person animal ect you kill always check for gold, use a free house you can get when first starting out to get around rather than spending gold to get to a shrine. Also a big one to try is scrying, look up how to get started, you can get some lovely items and a fair bit of gold, also look out for double skills points put out with festivals they are a great way to increase your levels, most of all have lots of fun.
One thing I would suggest : Is show the town map and highlight the respect shrine icon . Many times Ive seen in chat , players asking where is this or that as they are unfamiliar what the different icons mean . Navigators ( which take you to various zones for free) is a commonly skipped one
I found out about the respec at the shrines mainly because I loved the little bonuses from the shrines back in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim, and the ALMSIVI temple was just right there in front of me. But other than that, there's a lot of things I wish I knew and I wish the game had explicitly shown me back when I just started ~8 months ago. Like, I only learned that I can get the writ certification for Jewelry on Summerset 3-4 months after I have started playing, and I had bought Summerset chapter from the very beginning, I just mainly played other chapters.
Ah yes, that's right! You likely were not doing your daily writs in Summerset right? Because that is the only place where you can talk to the NPC that will certify you to craft jewelry writs. I recall that that took me a few months to figure out myself since I had been doing my daily writs in Vvardenfell!
i played for 8 months. i didn t know about the jewelry writs. thx for the info. i think the debate around crown shop are very valid. as the fact that we are paying for a game that is often not working aka pvp but not only (door in Dungeon not opening, etc). i really don t understand how eso doesn t take care more seriously of his game and his customers. thx for the smart video ;)
I think a cool video idea would be ranking the time it takes to grab all the sky shards in a zone to show which zones might be more worth it to buy the crown skyshards and which are easy enough to grab on your own. Examples would be Auridon which has a skyshard locked behind several quests or the imperial city which has a lot of more annoying to get ones hidden in the sewers. Could do the same thing for purchasable skill lines to show how fighters guild is actually super quick to power through in spellscar or somewhere similar whereas mages guild is a brutal grind if you don’t have access to addons and still tedious if you do
Agreed! I only just tried the Armoury system for the first time, and was like “is this a free respec scroll???”. Glad you’re posting these tips for newer folks to avoid paying where not necessary. Cheers!
Your video was much more civil than another I saw a few weeks ago. It was about all the ways ESO preys on the newbies and it was brutal! You would think the guy hated the game! Good for you to keep it positive! After all, we love this game, faults and all😊
Ah yeah, I am aware that there were quite a few gamers that were rather upset by this, and the ways in which they conveyed that were slightly excessive in some cases. I hadn't planned on making a video on this controversy myself until I heard the sentiment about how gold was "hard to make" from a developer on stream, and I was like "Hold up!! That's not true!!" It was at that point that I felt the need to chime in with my two cents on the situation, and to use my platform to guide newer players towards making sensible decisions in the game - like getting free items/services as opposed to paying *real life* money for them!! o.o But yes, we all love ESO, and I'd like to think that those that commented on this matter did so because they wanted to encourage a healthy community within the game, and not have new players get deterred from the game after some unfortunate predicament (like unknowingly buying a crown store bundle when they could have gotten it for free or for like 5k gold)!
Literally learned everything I know on ESO from TH-cam ESO vids especially Arttea. I would have been lost otherwise. It's taken almost a year of play for me to be somewhat comfortable and I still have miles to learn. :)
I was just like the very first time I played, I bought a horse. Luckily or maybe unluckily, due to google and apparently TH-cam know everything I do, including what shampoo I use, eso TH-cam creators started popping up and I began to watch them. Learned a lot of time saving, less money spending and new ways of enjoying the game. Every once in while I may buy something. Great video. I did watch Sawman, your video got the point across with a lot less anger but with same amount of sarcasm.
Thank you so much dude, super proud of how well you did the video, i might just be able to do stuff i really thought was harder then it really is. Subscribed, Gold.
Great video! It's definitely a help to new players. As a follow up though, I did notice that newly created characters are awarded a free horse pretty early on, I can't remember the level, I want to say maybe at level 10? but yeah, they don't even have to spend gold for a horse now.
Let's not forget item transmutation - you don't need Clockwork DLC to do it. You can buy station for your house for vouchers or use other people's house station.
Love your videos, really helpful for us newbie’s, please keep them coming I see a lot of videos on ESO labelled new/beginners and when you start watching you can tell within a few minutes it means new level 160 Your vids are very informative and refreshing Off topic, where did you get the nose chain for your character? Looked everywhere and can’t find it
Cheers man, happy to help! And that nose chain came from a crown crate season funnily enough (another reason to save your crowns for cosmetics and not items like the ones discussed in the video heh)! It is the “dragondancer’s cheek cord” from the “new moon” crown crates.
Another video? It must be my freaking birthday!!! This is deffo a great video to watch for many new players, thank you for making this! Although I must say, I was staring... respectfully XD
Hehe I have the means to make shorter and more chill videos from time to time now because I have more hard drive space to store all of the footage! So that’ll likely mean more frequent uploads OwO
There really is. A common sentiment that I hear on this channel from time to time is "I've been playing this game for X years, and I'm only just NOW finding out about -" and then whatever it is that I am discussing in the video. There is just so much information to be mindful of; some of it is decently explained in the game if you know to look for it, but a lot of it is not! I remember how it felt like to be a new player, and I could definitely have seen myself spending money on something like this had I not been steered away by friends (the way I mistakingly bought an ugly mount and dyes)!
I remember I ended paying crowns to become a vampire thinking it was skill line I had to pay for, only to find out afterwards that I could have asked just asked someone for it. I was still pretty new at the time
Thanks for helping the newbies, I find that sometimes ESO is predatory to new players because information is not disclosed in the crown store- like...oh you can pay 600 gold for a cure for vampirism lol.
Exactly. I did notice that if you hover over motif styles in the crown store, they do tell you where you can receive the style from (ex: from dailies in the reach, etc). It would be really nice if they did the same thing with all of the items!
I've been playing about 6 years and I cosign everything in this video. One note though, one of the rewards for leveling up is a free horse, which you get as long as you don't have any other mounts already. New players won't have been here long enough to have any kind of speed on their horse anyway, so just wait til you level up enough to get the free one.
Honestly, I always try to give out vampire bites the second it comes off cooldown on each toon. I would just start spamming in all chat channels I had until someone would say yes (did that for 8 toons every week).
OMG the fishy sticks! My brother in law hordes spoiled food to fill up the mailbox of guildies who purposely mess up a no death run and the fishy sticks reminded me of this LoL
Another thing i saw just recently is the crown research scroll in the endeavor store. The one day one for 2000k is a bit pricy but the 7 day for 3600k is a godsend. Do u weeklys and save up for those bad boys if ur trying to get a mastercrafter going
Well, they didn't tweet about it this time, but they're featured with a discount again, the respec scrolls I mean.... 🤷♀ It's a good thing I had already seen this video, cause now I know I absolutely do NOT need to buy these to make my Thieving Murdering Nighblade who has a Farming and Crafting job on the side 😁 Oh, if you're still a low-level character you will also get one storage coffer from the leveling advisor (I think it's around level 18 or so) 😀 And on level 10 you get a free horse 😁
When i started playing ESO in 2016, i bought a werewolf bite for 1500 crowns. I didn't know that players were able to share it. Got lots of facepalms from my girlfried for this. Then it became a running gag for us, everytime we see something overpriced in the crown store xD Now 5 years have passed, but from time to time i still get reminded of that mistake xD
Ah, you are right about that! Good call, it isn't too bad to just wait until you are lvl 10 since getting to that level doesn't take much time at all! I don't even recall knowing about getting a free mount back when I first reached lvl 10 all those years ago, otherwise I would not have bought one haha - I wonder how I could have missed that :')
@@Arttea it wasn't added until 2-3 years ago that u got lvl up rewards on your way to lvl 50, one of the early lvl ones being the free horse. It wasn't there on my first character but got it when I later on leveled other ones :)
With daily riding lessons and XP scrolls from daily rewards, I've learned that just logging on every day can save a gamer a lot of trouble. Nice video btw, though you owe me a new drink for 3:11.
Thanks for posting this. I've seen you and some other great content creators trying to help people realize some of the items in the crown store are...basically a total rip-off that new players might buy thinking that's the only (or best) way. As much as it'd be nicer if ZOS didn't do stuff like that, I feel like newer players have a greater chance of not getting ripped off thanks to you and others getting the word out.
the things i spend crowns on is dlc's, mounts, and houses, I got 8 houses for free(6 inn rooms, elsweyr story completion, and antiquities reward), I got one house for gold, I purchased 2 houses with crowns and, I was gifted a house (with crowns) from a family member
Yes, you do get a singular scroll at level 40 I believe, although you will absolutely find yourself needed to respec more than once per character over time
Is there something in game to get the NPC cats (banker/merchant)? I googled but don't seem to find any hints on how to get them. I know of the way you get a fenceNPC( Thief Guild - doing thee storyline for it)
Unfortunately, the banker and merchant NPCs (the cats, crows, and dunmer/redguard) are crown exclusive. You can, however, purchase crowns with gold. So it is possible to pay someone some gold and in exchange, they can gift you the cats! I have a video on converting gold to crowns on my channel for more info :)
A blast from the past but the none combat pet Sanguin Goats eye, glow red on days that vampires spawn. Of course Sanguin Goat hasn’t been the crown store for a solid 4 years so it unlikely this information will be very helpful.
I'm still new on this game I have zero friends and I been trying find information on new stuff what's going on I play solo thank you telling us this I needed this info
It is really frustrating that they still sell these items, let alone advertise them. I'm fine with 99% of the cash shop, but respecs and bites have no business on the crown store. Thanks for another great vid!
Exlnt vid. I’m not eso plus, so not many crowns. Evrerything I want I get in game. It takes a bit of time, but that’s half the fun. PS, I make a ton of gold doing zone clears including quests. My 2nd acc, I don’t craft so sell everything. Your content is xlnt, Cheers.
I didn’t even know about the ESO twitter situation till a few days ago watching sawman’s video. I feel like in total things like respec scrolls, potions, gems and even XP scrolls aren’t needed to be promoted or even be in the crown store. It’s so disappointing spending $100+ on crates and getting either useless stuff like gems and scrolls when I can get that through base game but I guess that’s the risk of gambling right. Sorry just my little rant
Ah, this video is not meant to be directed towards the developers, it is mean to be for new players that may not know about all of the possibilities to receive items and services for free and/or gold instead of having to pay crowns for them. Definitely had no intention to come off as patronizing towards anyone.
@@Arttea I was referring to Lambert's smug, patronizing responses to capncrunch. Your video is great, but I would respectfully disagree with taking an overly diplomatic tack in light of such dripping disdain from that dude.
How do you screenshot mode emotes? I can't seem to do that 👀 Umm. That bit on crown dyes being only usable on costumes is true but dye colors you unlock can be used on equipment
Yes, although purchasing dyes from the crown store does not unlock the dyes for you - they are just one-time-use tokens for costumes only. I have my screenshots bound to a key, so I can take a screenshot when my character is in the middle of doing an emote!
I didn't know respeccing was a thing either. I just assumed that if I want that I have all the skills I wanted I would just have to do every single dungeon and then find every single skyshard and finish every single campaign. That way I had enough skill points to make several builds
A fair assumption. If I remember correctly, I think I first found out about respeccing when I received a free attribute respec scroll from a level-up reward. But even then, I did not know that you could respec at any time at shrines! Now that I think of it, I could see how giving out new players one of these respec *scrolls* could further encourage the notion of buying *scrolls* from the crown store to respec!! Yikes :')
1:39... People will find a reason to be hateful, so just voice it anyhow... At least they show up to talk crap. Interaction is still just that, interaction! 2:04... They shouldn't even be for sale for real money, that's my opinion and it won't likely change. 4:27... Respect Given! 5:59... Lie-con-throp-e.... Js! I was still laughing at 6:42 when 7:17 hit, and then it went from... :D to :/ once I started thinking that so so true. Subbed!
Yo arttea, I subbed because your videos are awesome. very well crafted and educational to a new player, like me. Thank you for doing what ZOS does not due to their egregious monetary motivations. Can you tell me if it's possible to have more armory/outfit slots without paying $15 for a silly little slot?
Thanks for the sub! It is possible - any item that is available for purchase in the crown store can be bought with gold instead of crowns by trading with a trusted player that is willing to sell some of their crowns (you give them the gold, they gift you the item). I have an entire video on this notion on the channel if you'd like to learn more. I spend a lot of my gold this way to save on spending any of my real-life money :)
I just spent a little over 2 million Gold on the new crates!!! ✌️🥳 Free is free and I never complain. Xbone is easy to make gold. Daily writs off 8 characters 30k minimum without selling gold/ purple mats. However there’s a method to the madness with skill points and And CP properly placed with maximum crafting. I’ve used one character to help make others! ✌️😉🇨🇦
I believe you get one at level 10! I included it in the pinned comment. Back when I created my character that wasn't yet a feature; I'm really glad they decided to implement that!
Props on the stylish video and helpful content! 👍

Exactly. I did notice that if you hover over motif styles in the crown store, they do tell you where you can receive the style from (ex: from dailies in the reach, etc). It would be really nice if they did the same thing with all of the items!
3 of my armory slots for my main are respec. 1 is a blank slate Vampire, 1 blank Werewolf, 1 blank Dunmer.
Hahaha omg that's amazing :D
Saw a guy in the rift saying he’s about to pay for werewolf “again”. Luckily a bunch of people successfully stopped him.
🤷♀ It's a good thing I had already seen this video, cause now I know I absolutely do NOT need to buy these to make my Thieving Murdering Nighblade who has a Farming and Crafting job on the side 😁
Oh, if you're still a low-level character you will also get one storage coffer from the leveling advisor (I think it's around level 18 or so) 😀
And on level 10 you get a free horse 😁
I'm totally subscribing to u, I'm redownloading eso rn on Steam since I bought myself a better PC hopefully to run the game better too lol 😂
Great info 👍 love the look of your snow globe home.
Thank you! It is actually a friends’, but I decorated the interior of it for him! :)
When i started playing ESO in 2016, i bought a werewolf bite for 1500 crowns. I didn't know that players were able to share it. Got lots of facepalms from my girlfried for this.
Then it became a running gag for us, everytime we see something overpriced in the crown store xD
Now 5 years have passed, but from time to time i still get reminded of that mistake xD
Haha that's amazing (the inside joke, not the fact that you accidentally spent 1500 crowns) ;p
10:55 If I recall correctly the level 10 or 15 reward for a new account is a horse. So *DON'T* buy it, just wait and use that money on something else
Grumpy, angry, hateful, crotchety folk Love it when you smile, thank them for their input and wish them a happy day 😊
With daily riding lessons and XP scrolls from daily rewards, I've learned that just logging on every day can save a gamer a lot of trouble.
That would be ideal! I'd hate for newbies to make the same silly mistakes that I did when I was just starting out :')
Thank professor, sorry I was late!
No worries Catalonia, just don't let it happen again /s
the things i spend crowns on is dlc's, mounts, and houses, I got 8 houses for free(6 inn rooms, elsweyr story completion, and antiquities reward), I got one house for gold, I purchased 2 houses with crowns and, I was gifted a house (with crowns) from a family member
and I hope to get the Doomchar Plateau later this month.
I gifted my cousin a house.
great video but i could be mistaken i think you get a respect scroll in a level reward can not remember witch one just use wisely
Yes, you do get a singular scroll at level 40 I believe, although you will absolutely find yourself needed to respec more than once per character over time
Would have been nice to have known about free respec as I recently paid in a capital city for reset.
Could you please tell, what is this cool Kung Lao hat on you, where i can get one? On 00:26
I have a question, a buyer dye unlocks for ever on the dye tap when you change colors, or if you change it it get lost if you reemplace it?
The crown store dye doesn’t unlock anything - unfortunately, it is a one use thing.
Your character looks amazing, is it bosmer vampire? :P
Gold was pretty hard to come by at the beginning of the game, took me a month to hit 10k and that was a lot of money back then.
Not to be a white knight, but I believe ever since the addition of scrying and excavation. I've been making gold being a treasure hunter.
Where did you get this black dye? Its awesome
TY for this super informative video!
Great info. When it comes to patronizing game devs, however, I prefer the ask myself 'what would Malacath do?'
@@ofuscado420 Ahh gotcha!
I only paid 58g for respecing just one skill morph. Not bad.
That sleep for dinner tonight hits
How do you screenshot mode emotes? I can't seem to do that 👀
Umm.
@@Arttea Ah okay. I'm on PS4 NA so there's a button for that. My concern is having name tags, health bars and such in the clip
@@BlackCatOnline- Ahh I see - you should be able to go into the settings menu and remove nametags, healthbars, etc!
How did you achieve that look at 0:28?
Dose the armory remove your vampire or werewolf of you use it?
What is that armor/costume? Its gorgeous..
I spend a lot of my gold this way to save on spending any of my real-life money :)
off topic question is the reshade mod worth it ??
5:18 Someone's not a fan of werewolf's lol.
The crafting system is weird compared to older games, but they are still an effective way to make money.
Great video as always. Informative and entertaining. (-:
Thank you!
this is good stuff keep it up !!
Comment for the algorhythm. Great video as always. :)
Thanks DL!
Arttea what is the name of youe ESO guild? I am thinking to about joining a new guild.
Don't you still get a free horse at level 20? Or did they remove that? Its been a while since I leveled a new character.
I believe you get one at level 10! I included it in the pinned comment. Back when I created my character that wasn't yet a feature; I'm really glad they decided to implement that!
