Mitch needs to leave already. We need term limits and age limits for our leaders.
What's the cut off? I don't think it's fair to limit terms based on age, because everyone ages differently. Some people are vital well into their 80s and 90s and others aren't. So to put a specific age limit in would be a bad thing. Term limits isn't a terrible thing, but look at how that has worked with respect to presidents. Mixed results. If a president is doing a wonderful job and 60% approve of him or her, shouldn't voters have a chance to keep them on? On the other hand, the Electoral College gives less popular presidents a chance to keep winning by minority vote. But on the more local level, there are governors and other offices that don't have limits, again with mixed results. The downside of having term limits is that a successful Senator or Governor would be forced to leave, and maybe the next person isn't so great. The upside is that that "no so great" person would be subject to leaving at the end of the time limit. So, I'm not against term limits but I don't ever see Congress implementing it, as they are the branch that passes those laws and an amendment to the Constitution would be required (two thirds of both houses of Congress and two-thirds (34) of the states), which is a very high bar to pass.
For as long as you have the two party system. You will not get the changes that are needed. Vote responsibly or stay in your misery.
