Norwegian rap duo Karpe is Chirag Rashmikant Patel and Magdi Omar Ytreeide Abdelmaguid. In 2022 they released Omar Sheriff, a music project packed full of tributes and nods to their background (Chirag being of Indian and Magdi being of Egyptian origin). They mix Norwegian with Arabic, Hindi, Gujarati and English in a way no one has done before them - call it 'diaspora pop'. Karpe has risen to become the biggest band in Norway, and has now teamed up for a European tour with The Quick Style, the legendary global dance crew that went viral in 2022 with their wedding show video ( • FAMOUS WEDDING SHOW (F... ). The band and the crew are both children of a generation of immigrants and refugees from all over the world, who fled to Norway to create a home. The biggest song on the album, "Paf.no", is a cover of Sidi Mansour, a Tunisian folk tune - with a chorus in Arabic went viral. This extremely ambitious musical and visual mix of languages and references has clearly struck a nerve and when they headlined our NEON festival earlier this summer the show was literally registered on the Richters Scale.

I cried after hearing my language Gujarati in the new song Piya Piya Calling from Coke studio Pakistan as we hardly get representation in Music. I had to find out who this man was and low and behold it was Chirag Patel. I can't believe that another Gujarati is one of the biggest superstars of Norway. Would love see to Chirag include more Gujarati lyrics in songs. I'm now a huge fan of y'all, sending so much love to Chirag and Magdi. We love you both so much❤❤❤❤

@@Yksl64 I am absolutly sure that it's an old folkore song from a city called Sfax in Tunisia. The song originaly was dedicated to the sufi saint Sidi mansour, some hundred years ago. You can search in you tube and will find the original original folklore version, but the familiar version is from Saber Rebai who made it popular and was translated worldwide.
And I know Tatlisis is known for translating old arabic songs.

This originates from a folk traditional Tunisian Old song played to tourists since ages - well known in Brazil as well - called "Sidi Mansour" - there was a remake of it in modern Tunisian folk - th-cam.com/video/6_h3PrFOdF4/w-d-xo.html
I discovered this Norvegian version in Oslo while eating a Burger at Burger Joint in Holmens Gate. The intro is a Libanese song of the Diva "Fairuz" - "Saalouni el Nass"

It is about immigrant parents dreams and hopes for their children growing up in Norway, and the challenges growing up between two cultures. This is Karpe hommage to their immigrant roots, as I understand it.

I have read that during this concert they served attendees their favorite food. Some people wrote that their favorite food is their mom's recipe; Karpe actually got the recipe from their mother and served them that dish.
