    personally i think kaleidos has been leaning more and more into east asian/douyin/chinese makeup trends lately, where colorful eyeshadow isn't used as much and pale/almost porcelain blush is all the rage. which is sad tbh taking into account how good their formulas are and the way they could expand their shade range to make it as inclusive as possible, yet they only seem to be taking steps BACKWARDS in that regard

      This is exactly what I came here to say. This collection, while disappointing and confusing to us, is probably going to be MASSIVE in Asian markets. At least with the purple collection, they had one more muted one and one colorful, saturated one.
      And…why purple? Three neutral quads, (brown, grey/black, and taupe) two muted purple quads, (one more warm, one more cool) and a saturated purple. There are plenty of other colors….even muted, “neutral” colors.
      And the blushes….ugh! Ok, so release the super pale ones, that’s fine, but then how about a light, medium, and dark in similar tones? Not a super pale and a light….
      This is actually sad. It feels like Western markets are being cut out. And even though the Asian style seems to accept and even celebrate not being inclusive, there are plenty of Asian people with deeper skin tones who are constantly getting excluded, and now this collection does so as well….

    • @realtalk13
      @realtalk13 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      yeah this is what I was going to say. Especially since Kaleidos is based in China, I feel like they might be pivoting to focusing on their local consumer base given just how expensive international shipping has become. This collection is in-line with other jbeauty and kbeauty brands like etude house and 3CE, especially with the focus on mauves/purples/taupes, which is always on trend in that region. A shame since their formula is so nice across their powder products, but it would also explain why they haven't released any of their colorful 5 pan palettes in a while and their last two were.....taupes/purples and peachy/brown/pink neutrals lolol

    As someone who is pale and doesn’t wear brights or a lot of color, the eye palettes are my style. The undertones on the quads are different enough for someone who wears neutrals. The blushes are a different story. Only the palest can wear them.

  • @girlwhomustnotbenamed4139
    @girlwhomustnotbenamed4139 ปีที่แล้ว +78

    Honestly, while at first I was slightly disappointed, for us very fair, cool-toned girlies, these are our neutrals and they are so difficult to find normally. Even by hunting these shades down, I can usually only get a simple, everyday eyelook that fits my undertone by combining 2 or 3 palettes. E.g. Cold Brew was too warm for me and the last collection overall a bit too dark (although both were leagues better than what is already on the market), so these two new quads are just perfect.
    It's gotten so normalised that neutrals are by default warm-toned, even in so-called “cool-toned” palettes (don’t even get me started on that gaslighting). I get the disappointment, especially if people were expecting something colourful, but I don’t think that a brand releasing two cool-toned neutral collections with a similar vibe warrants the collective meltdown like it’s so redundant. It just means that cool-toned people might also get a semblance of choice in their neutrals, which is both good and currently non-existent.

    • @rpwp-joonie
      @rpwp-joonie ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I love this take! Sure a lot of people also moan and groan over 'yet another warm toned neutral palette' but it's pretty much just shrug and move on. But cool toned people don't have that, as you say, semblance of choice. Cool toned neutrals are still pretty few and far in between, though it's better now than before. As a cool toned girlie myself I love how we're getting so many cool toned neutrals now, even if they all look similar, because the market is incredibly oversaturated with warm toned neutrals that still turn out to be a 'staple' for one person or another. We def need more of that in cool tones too!

    Hey Angie. I totally get where you’re coming from will a whole collection being unusable for many skin colors, but I am someone EXTREMELY fair and struggle having makeup matches. Which includes blushes. I can almost never wear blushes especially colors like they have previously released by kaleidos. Almost no make up brands make anything like this. You see many brands specifically catered for darker skin tones but never pale. I’m really excited for this collection and I’ll let you know how the colors turn out for me/if they are different. That being said I do thing the collection as a whole was not thought out well. They could/should have come out with four pale AND four deep shades to cater to everyone, I definitely agree.

    These blushes are made to be used as a matte highlighters! Face contouring in chinese makeup style is huge, so they are not meant for the cheeks, but more so to sculpt the face alongside other deeper shades of blush or contour. I was really excited when I saw the sneak peeks for the launch, I was expecting rosy pinky blush tones, which may have been done a lot before but at least would be different from Kaleidos (and something I actually don't have surprisingly), but no we were giving what feels like a desaturated version of their last collection :/ I will keep enjoying my Glowing Iris palette for now lol.

    Two-hands up agree! The eyeshadow palettes are so similar to their previous ones. The new blush shades are too light. I was hoping they’re going to add more exciting shades to their blush collection. I recently (like just last week b4 this new collection was announced) bought a few blushes and secretly glad that I didn’t miss out much from this new launch. 😊

    On one hand I do understand why are lot of people upset about this collection but from reading lots of the comment they are getting so much hate it makes me kinda sad because what I can see is that someone finally made colours that were all missing on the market. It was probably not a good move to do it all in one launch and not include darker skin tones on all 4 blushes but so far I've never seen a brand give us any of these shades. Usually I have issues to find one cooltoned lighter shade in most of the makeup released even when there is 10 shades of anything, at least 8 are warm and from the 2 cool its the same colours all the time. I definitely don't want and can't speak for the darker skin toned people because I know the situation only as a by stander but what I heard and saw from influencers and youtubers I felt that in recent years so many brands have been great with delivering inclusive shade ranges in all the product types from foundations to eyeshadows while I actually have seen very little of anything that would be suitable for fair cool undertones. There is always something light but most of the time its just warm-yellow-orange leaning so it looks like there is a range but in reality if you are fair cool, good luck with finding a foundation for example. For that reason I'm willing to give them a pass as long as they will be more inclusive next time. They were really great with the contour palettes and the rest of the existing blushes so I don't think they deserve that much public hate I've seen online for 4 blush shades that we actually can't get anywhere else. Yes, would have been better if they split them and released just two of them now and have some darker ones and the other two next time or just add few other shades, ...Maybe they are trying to sell it more as a whole collection as it works better for their main customer base? Maybe the darker shades didn't sell last time as well as the light ones so they are trying to pull themselves up to be more profitable? I felt like they were quiet for so long that I was starting to get scared that they will be another brand on the line for bancruptcy. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I hope this collection will be successful so they can give us more colourful things next time as if not, I will also join the unsatisfied crowd. But for now, I'm grateful that they gave us these tones that I was trying to find for years and hopefully the next launch will be again all inclusive

      @girlwhomustnotbenamed4139 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes to all of this! I've almost completely checked out of the complexion product market, which is even worse for ppl with a cool undertone than the eyeshadows. And I so agree with you that the most problematic are the lighter shades, be it shimmer or matte eyeshadow, or foundation, contour or blush, 90% of the time they are warm toned and the rest is always the same. I get that for a lot of people these shades and tones are not interesting but they are actually unique, not only individually but especially as full palettes and an entire collection. With some deeper blushes (which they should indeed have included) this collection would've been perfect but it still fills a huge gap on the market as is.

    • @Cascadeis
      @Cascadeis ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same thoughts here. Yes, it’s a disappointing collection but it does include some pretty unique shades that I think would actually work for fair skin. (It’s weird how difficult it is to find truly fair complexion products, unless the Asian market is available to you. Not as difficult as it is for dark skin tones, but still extremely difficult.)

  • @TheSimbulUK
    @TheSimbulUK ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This definitely feels like a Chinese market-geared Douyin collection, which given their existing permanent collection seems ok. This is not an inclusive collection in itself, but their whole product range actually does provide options for most people so I give it a pass. What direction they choose to go in moving forward is what will determine if they are still interested in their international customers or not, I think.

    I feel like this blushes tone is suitable for korean makeup trends where the focus is on personal color. They usually use them as a base for another blush making overall looks airblush. And they're pale skin friendly because I find it difficult to find a soft blush shade T T. Also the eyeshadow look like a true cool tone on my skin. This collection is a holy grails for me❤

    I’d love for kaleidose to release an eyeshadow palette- but have it be every shade of their space themed highlighter collection! They could maybe keep the colors the same, but maybe make some of the shades opaque. This would be my dream palette. It could also have some matte shades in it too…
    A gal can dream!

    I'm happy thier glosses are making a come back. I understand adding lighter blush shades but thought we might be getting a shimmering blush based on one of the shade names. Those eye pallets are not it. I like the quads (neutrals with a twist and colorful) and if they wanted to stay on that path there were so many other options. Olive green, Mauve, warm brown, Pink would have alll been better than repeats.

    no, i don't think i see it. kaleidos already has a selection of colourful blushes on offer. these 4 will suit goths, gingers and other people with a very pale aesthetic and extend the range. the same with the quads. they have warm leaning neutrals and now they've extended the range to cool tones. they odn't look similar to me at all. so people have the choice to go either way, depending on their undertones. makes sense to me. i don't think (self)tanning is terribly popular in asia, even though it is in the u.s.

    I don't understand the hate towards the blushes. Not every collection or even brand has to cater to everyone. It definitely was a problem in the past but currently there are so many brands and products to choose from. If I see a collection that is not for my complexion, I skip and carry on. I don't see so much hate towards the newest Fenty stick which doesn't cater to Fair/Light complexions. I swatched first 3 shades at Sephora and it was laughable. Or even Make up by Mario's foundation shades are very limited for Fair. Why people always choose to hate on smaller indie brands?

    I find it really odd that Kaleidos released these four blushes when actually, even in their initial blush release, there was only ONE that would work on dark skin -- that deep red one. It reminds me of the early 1990s before Mac became popular, back when the only blush shade you could find for dark skin was red 🥴
    Also--given your relationship with Kaleidos, it might have been easier not to critique them too much on this. Thanks for your honesty!

    I hear what you're saying with the.blush colors, I think maybe they were trying to round out their range because the rest of their blushes are very bright and go pretty dark so maybe they just thought their range needed more light shades. I totally get this collection. The eyeshadow looks beautiful on you, I love the look. I love watching your colorful looks but realistically, I do not wear them most of the time. For work, I tend to wear neutral with a pop of color. So these would be my go to for work shadows. I also think that is the Asian perspective.
    The blushes for me are perfect…but I prefer the wash of color, especially the more brown leaning. Many of my Chanel blushes look very much like that.
    I think that this is not your aesthetic (love your looks 😎) so I agree it did not make sense to send it to you.
    As to my “boring” neutral shades, I will always look to my luxury brands. I look to Indy brands for the unusual shades that re beautiful (although I admit 5o admire them more than wear them very often).

    That been said, i agree with the lack of inclusion of this colection (is a shame for a brand that pretends to be international) but who’s surprise? the makeup marketing is beginning to focus on the asian trends and cultures. Its ok.

    Angie, that eye makeup looks amazing on you! Very elegant❤ ❤ Personally, I am super excited about this collection, and I am not sure Kaleidos are just focusing on the Asian market... maybe yes maybe not... but it seems like many of the Western luxury brands have been launching warm-toned palettes forever, with very few cool-toned ones (I have ND and PMG in mind, and I know there is more variety with indie brands) and when you read the comments on social media, the customers keep asking for cool tones, purples and greens, something fun but also work friendly. Maybe that's why Oden's Eye has been so well received? I can see the similarities in terms of color story with Kaleidos' last collection, but for me, that was more of a neutral brown (coffee look) or a bright party collection (the blue lilacs and silvers), and all the blushes were pretty bright. So I don't mind them doing more subtle taupes and pink purples. Maybe they are just ahead of a trend? ❤

    I 100% agree
    For the blushes, I do love the one that you wore, but if they did two muted light ones - one warmer and one slightly cooler - but then same thing for another two that would work for darker skin tones... I do appreciate when there is a muted lighter blush that is nude - same as like a nude lipstick - there but barely noticeable...
    But that could also be fixed with making the darker blushes more buildable rather than punchy...
    I am absolutely in love with my joyrider blush from them- it keeps moving from bag to bag and I ALWAYS have it, it has a dip in it and I layer it a lot with other blushes (esp shimmery orange blushes)...
    But their red blush from previous collection is a bit too much pigment sometimes which is why I also purchased the playoffs from colourpop so it is buildable... but I do use the kaleidos one only when I do intense red look and intense blush but that is rare...
    On the eyeshadow front - I do think different undertones really make a difference depending on your undertone so that could be passable in my opinion but the muted purple pallete look identical- maybe one of the shades could be included in another palette but the other 3 shades .... exactly same.
    Sorry for the essay... lol if you read it - thanks lol

    I might be in the minority here but I think this collection is beautiful and on trend. Over the top color seems a little dated at this point. A more muted, lighter look fits with the understated “old money” look that is all over these days. While the blush looked light in the pan, I could definitely see it showed up on your face. I feel that this collection is ahead of its time here in the west and I hope to see more collections like this. It is nice to have some light, basic colored eyeshadows to sculpt the eye to give an effortless look. Kaleidos quality is definitely there! I am considering at least 2 of the blushes and possibly 2 of the eye shadow palettes from this collection. I do think this could work beautifully on women with deeper skin tones- especially those who have cool undertones. Women who have deeper skin tones might find this collection pops against their skin. I could see the pink blush working well in the top of the cheeks to give a nice ethereal effect on deep, cool toned skin.
    I feel this is a modern collection and a twist on basic neutrals. I totally understand where the brand was going with this and I am here for it!

      Sadly, It really depends on the persons skin tone, but most of the blushes besides maybe one would make someone deep/dark look ashy. And the quads would run the same way unless you purposely use a light/white base, even if the person has a cooler undertone. I'd be interested to see someone of my complexion try it out but I think it could be a waste of money.
