I'm glad to hear you advocate wearing our hair out. So many videos will literally have you scared to wear your hair in anything other than a protective style.
Thank you! This video has been helpful. I'm over 60, and my hair has been thinning.🙁 I wear my hair back almost daily, so I realize that may be adding to my hair loss. Wearing cornrows or extensions will just pull on the hair, so I will try wearing my hair out in twists. ❤️ Thanks again for your expertise!
Check your vitamin minerals. I was having hormonal issues, coupled with iron deficiency. I added Biotin, Folic Acid, Iron by MegaFoods brands (veggie base to avoid constipation), used Olaplex #0 & #3 with a deep conditioner under my home dryer as needed, sprits/watered my hair more like a plant and that has turned everything around. Most importantly, get your hormones back on track. EDIT: MSM too! internal & external but drink WATER!!💦💦
Are you keeping it moisturized? When I started moisturizing my hair more and not letting it get so dried out, it stopped splitting. You can watch African Hair God’s videos as well as Rosie Amelia and Shelly V. They all experienced those issues( mid-shaft splits) too! I wish you well on your journey!
I have midshaft splits. Here's why 1. Stress 2. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies 3. Ultra-fine strands- Protective styles longer than 14 days cause microfractures in my hair from the friction and/or the extension hair strand is thicker than my hair strand. I also need to use a tool to detangle because finger detangling does not get all of the shed hair out for me! The left behind shed hair wraps around the other hair causing knots. 4. I'm a thalassemia carrier so I have abnormal blood cells. 5. Sensitive scalp What helps- Moisturising daily; Weekly Shampoo ( 10 minutes) and deep condition (30 mins)with heat. No raw oils or butters- there are oils and butters in my leave-in conditioner cream. Nothing on my scalp except the water-based prescription from my trichologists and shampoo. Hair vitamins. Aphoghee and Olaplex. Twists, Flat twists, finger coils, 2 or 3 French braids with no added hair worn only for 7-14 days before taking down. Straight trims every 12-16 weeks. I dust my ends every 6 weeks. I detangle on damp hair ( not wet or dry) with a leave-in detangler and leave-in conditioner. in 20 sections. I use my wide-toothed seamless comb first and then my medium-toothed seamless comb. Once every 6 weeks, I use my seamless fine-toothed comb and then my wet tangle teezer for fine and fragile hair. I rarely use stylers- mousse, gel, jelly, edge control, curl definer, spritz, twisting creams, hair holding spray, serums, shine spray.
@@funmi5653I shampoo my hair once a week. I moisturize 2-3 times a week. When I wear my hair out, I 0:04 moisturize when I return home because the moisture in my hair is gone. Please read @marleyhill34 comments. They are so detailed!
I would also like to know about cornrows (without extensions). Hope she reads the comments and makes a video on how to retain length using cornrows as a protective style.
@@veronagraham6816 styles that allow you to still have access to the hair, to ‘moisturize + seal’ are ideal. Cornrows are fine as long as they’re not tight, not too heavy, and not left in too long causing the natural hair to become dry + brittle. 💛

I wish I could have you do my hair!! You’re such a skilled stylist!
@@tiamariadiaz9834 thank you! ❤️ We’d love to have you in the studio whenever you’re in South Florida!
So true. I noticed when I wear a high puff, my hair breaks a lot. Also, when I wear a turban wrap ( in a bun) my hair breaks as well. Great video ❤
