GM did a great job of designing this 2nd gen traverse and that is the placement of oil filter and the drain plug location position. Making oil change a breeze and easy to gain access without spilling oil all over the underbody frame. This 2nd gen 2018 chevrolet traverse body style is sexy and very sporty. Took me 10 minute to do an oil change without the added oil spill clean up and the frustration all done by hand and a 15mm wrench. This specific model took 6 quartz of motoroil.

Very good job. I agree, this is one of the easiest oil life reset and very good access to the oil filter.

Wow! You do it just like me. Exactly the same oil drain pan and disposing bucket.

Thanks for the video!! Me and my wife planning to get a 2020 traverse... Very straight forward explanation...Sir my advice next time just put a jack stand just to be safe dont trust the plastic ramp...:)

True...I always have my 2 small jack for added support in case the hydraulic jack failed no matter what anyone says or tell me. And I always have 2 rubber put behind the rear tires to keep the car from rolling back as I jack up the car.

I just got a 2021 and did the first oil change. The easiness of the oil filter location is very subjective. I had the hardest time to access it from the top or the bottom, and putting it back on was a nightmare. I would have loved to see you how you do it because it is not easy at all.

Agreed. Same on my 2019 Enclave which has the same engine. The filter location is very difficult to access, there's almost no room to turn it, it's right near the hot exhaust manifold, it leaks oil all over once you get it off, and it's very difficult to get it back on. Very poor design compared to simply locating it on the bottom like most other vehicles.

I did my 2018 traverse oil change with ease and under 10 minute. The proper way to remove the oil filter is from the top down and squeeze the oil filter frame then turn it unless some idiot had over tighten the oil filter. Then you'd have to use one of those oil filter wrench to loosen it up. As you loosen the filter just keep pressure as you spin it loose to prevent dropping the filter while you loosen it then grab the filter end and lift with the open end up so you don't spill the oil as you bring it up. When installing the new filter back in, do not over tighten the oil filter otherwise when you do another change its gonna be harder to loosen it up. Some people tend to overnighten the filter because it's still turning. Gentle tighten is the key to installing a new filter. You do not have to necessarily tighten it to the point where it will not turn no more because that would overtighten the oil filter too much when it isn't necessary. When I remove the old filter I just squeeze the filter body and twist til it loosen up then I hold the bottom end and spin it with my thumb and pinky finger while applying pressure to keep the filter from dropping and spilling oils all over the underbody frame.

@@mrvang8077 Thanks for this explanation, I am pretty familiar with the process of installing and removing an oil filter. The problem is the location and the accessibility of the filter in the traverse. You may have tiny hands that fit in the space, but I can only put one arm in and try not to get burn, then installing the new one, is a try an error to make sure you have the right angle to screw it in. That does not include the mess it does when removed. Overall, I don't think it was well thought.

How much oil does it take?!
    Other question
Is there a difference in the amount of oil if you changed the filter or not?!
    Thanks sir

The manual says 6 quarts 5w-30 when changing the oil with filter. The plug needs 18ft lbs torque.

Just put 5 1/2 quartz in then run it for 1 minute. Turn off the engine and let it sit a couple second on a flat surface then take out the oil dipstick and check the level. If it's halfway on the dipstick, then you're good. Don't forget to wipe off the dipstick every time you put it back in rinse repeat til you're on the half way mark. I add a little over the halfway mark in case your oil run a little low after driven it a couple mile. I just did the second oil change on my 2018 traverse and I just put in the full 6 quartz which is a little too much, but it'll compensate for the loss of about a quartz of oil driving it from my first oil change which I only put in 5 1/5 quartz.

I recommend you just change out both the oil and the filter so you can just put in the full 6quartz
