I don't know if someones already mentioned this. But the DER DE-5000 can optionally be plugged into an external power supply (wall wort) and use it while plugged in. I also bought some 5,400 mAh 9v rechargeables for it too. Great meter and great video thanks !
Also have it but the pwr adapter is a 45 dollar option so pricey. Reasonably satisfied with it and chose it after seeing it reviewed on Eevblog video. But that Hantek is tempting

I have the Hantek LCR meter for a while now and there's a few things I'd like to say about it. First of all, it seems you have to calibrate it every time you turn it on, using the Cal button. It's annoying but it does help it stabilize, especially when you measure very low values like a few picos or very low resistances. Another thing, is about the probes. I bought the ones you call "shielded". They're called Kelvin probes and they're night and day in terms of precision compared to regular probes. There are many things I like about this meter, except for the fact that it drains the battery even if you turn it off, but it's a minor problem (at least for me) because you can just recharge it. Thanks for your great feedback! Yes you are right - they are first Kelvin and if they have shielding all the better;) I do like this Hantek. Do you find that if you let it warm up for a bit, and then calibrate it that it makes a difference?
@@KissAnalog Yes, I think I actually saw an advice in the user manual saying that you should wait a few minutes after turning it on and before start using it and I'm doing that every time I use it. I wait like 5 minutes then I calibrate it, then everything works well.
I got a Hantek 1833C as a second LCR meter, and as you mentioned I found it strange that it doesn't save the open/shorted calibration figures into the non-volatile memory like my other LCR, an Applent AT-826 does. I find this annoying with the Hantek, as the open lead calibration takes it a while to do. But the Hantek was half the price of the Applent, so I guess it's a case of getting what you pay for.
My Peak LCR45 developed an over contrast on the display. I mentioned it on the eevblog-forum & in a couple days Peak-Atlas reached out to sort the issue. They sent a set of spares including the LCD for free which included indepth instructions. In under 15mins it was perfect. My Hantek 1833C arrived & did nothing so i put it on a charger. It woke up for around an hour & ceased after that to power up and never operated since including using a Lab PSU feed. I reached out to Hantek telling them it now doesn't work, mentioned warranty & have heard nothing.... not even a squeak!
Thanks for the feedback Ronnie! The price seems to changes randomly. It might be do to availability…. The 1832C is essentially the same but with a single test voltage level which I haven’t found the benefit yet of the two levels. It might come into play with very large - low impedance parts. It is priced a bit better at $154.
@@KissAnalog The benefit of the lower voltage testing above the higher one, is the ability to measure in-circuit and stay below the forward voltage of a lot of silicon junctions that may be in parallel or in the circuit somewhere. That lets you measure things unaffected.
Thanks Eddie, always great to watch your reviews. I have the DE-5000 but I'm thinking that all these guys are pretty close. One thing, even though you can zero the meters out I'm wondering if you should use the same leads for both meters when you do testing. I don't know if it would make a great difference but it might be interesting to check a component and then change the leads, zero it and check it again. I'm looking at the B&K 880 because it's 4 wire and I think that changes things, you can only get so much out of two wire, especially when you start looking at ESR and milliohms and stuff like that. It does cost a lot more - about $350, I guess it's what you need it for and how much use you'll get out of it. I don't do much RF work so maybe the B&K is overkill for me. One more thing, the DE-5000 does have a 9VDC plug so you can use an external source if it's on constantly.
Thanks for the great feedback as always! I should have mentioned the power adapter option. I would like to see if I could find a low cost milliohm meter. That’s probably where these meters need the most help…and low value inductors for rf.
@@KissAnalog I did some supercap work awhile ago, would have been nice to see something going up that high but I understand the logic of why these meters don't. I use my bench meters when I get into the low resistance area, you really need 4 wire for that. It's way above the price of these meters but if you want a really good meter get the Keysight 34465A. I have the older 34401A that was a landmark meter when they were Agilent and HP that does all my day to day stuff. I'm spoiled!
I got the DE-5000, and I'm disappointed with its reduced ESR resolution for larger capacitors which actually NEED higher resolution due to their much lower ESR. I am now eyeing the BK880 and LCR Research Pro1.
Hi Eddie, Great Video Thankyou! I have the DER5000 for some Years now, its very battery-friendly even with the 9V Block (and Auto-Off). Further its has a 1mOhm Resolution in the Rs Range and 10mOhm in ESR Setting, is Relatively small(compared to the Hantek) and light. Cheers, Konstantin
I have the DE-5000 too, and it's always spot-on. Why it need 30 seconds calibration time, each "open" and "short", totally 60 seconds may be a mystery. But it works very well. It's not a new LCR-meter, but well proven with good reputation.
I tried to buy a DER early 2020 but it couldn’t get out of Japan due to you know what though you’d think they’d still allow exports. So I bought something which was UNI-T re-branded as TENMA. I felt it was (as it is) a Chinese copy also the tweezer is absolutely useless being made of cheese. Eventually I sent this back and successfully got a DER which I have been pretty happy with. I also own a PEAK ESR.
One point might be the guarding. I think the hantek is the only one that has an active guarding. The other one uses shield as guarding. But because of the price and the external powersupply I have ordered the DE-5000.
The Hantek looks just like my portable Hantek Oscilloscope. I'm sure to save money they just repurposed the case. Hantek is well within spec for my needs. That might end up being my X-mas present for myself this year.

Hi Eddie, I have the DER DE-5000 and it's ok. It doesn't eat up batteries as far as my experience goes, and you can plug in an adapter as well. But I'm not super convinced of the readings for ESR and Q. I don't have any idea how to test this. About low resistance measurements, though, your Keithley 2015 can take some really accurate measurements with Kelvin probes. And it has 6 1/2 digits, 100 microOhm resolution and 30 ppm accuracy...Why would you want to play around with handheld devices? The biggest drawback of these LCR meters, for me, is that they don't measure leakage... your Sencore does with several 100 volts, no? Cheers Mark
Thanks for sharing. I still use Sencore LC-102 for big stuff, and BK Precision 886 and 885 for everything else. The leads look VERY disappointing on the meters you reviewed. Milliohm resolution is important to me (0.001Ω), but a meter with one digit of resolution ok for solenoids, big resistors, etc (10:1 rule). Finally, inserting components' leads into front slots will take it's toll; get proper clips or fixture. I think those contacts are gold plated, to mate with proper fixtures and leadsets, and a few thousand various sized components scratching away will take their toll.

One of my Fluke 289's was stolen at a jobsite 😠, and i decided to put together a box of DECENT gear that yields less STING if damaged or stolen. But the leads on the DE-5000 are a joke; would need to upgrade. I'm going to look at your list again. You've already done some of the homework for me 👍. Hantek is interesting.
The Hantek I have although has rechargeable batteries, so you would think that would be much more convenient, sadly the standby current of the meter when it is off is plainly quite high as if I haven't used it for a couple of weeks, the batteries will be flat, and need charging, it can operate of the charger at the same time as charging the batteries, but the readings jump all over the place, to the point the instrument is unstable! I am intending to upgrade the firmware to see if that helps. I understand that the hantek does not have a dedicated ADC, but uses the one in the processor, and we know they can be noisy so that would account for the unstable readings when running the meter off the charger. it would be better if there was a proper break on/off switch as its likly such meters are used infrequently. The other thing I would like to know, are there switching regulators being used in the hantek, and some of the noise is making the readings unstable.

Thanks for letting me know. I don't have control of this - but I am wondering if it is because of the average length of watch time on my videos? I'll look into it and see if I do have any control. Maybe quality of content leads to higher average watch time = penalized by too many adds = slow growth of channel... Seems like a bad formula...
Good review. I had the der de 5000, very nice meter, but fried it during some 100 volt large capacitor reforming, dont for get to discharge :) just got the hantek 1833c and it feels much better quality wise, but haven't really tried it yet, as to your review, what frequency did the z meter use? And you should get some reference parts I know they are expensive but very nice to have.

Hello, I was hoping you may have some insight of the accuracy differences of different ac line splitters. I have read reviews where some people say the 10x and 1x are off on some models when in theory they should be the same reading but just need a decimal place shift for the 10x vs 1x. Any thoughts?
Yes that is correct. These Z meters are pretty awesome and I have found them in many labs that I have worked - or had the equipment manager get one for the lab;) However - I need to get rid of some equipment so this one might have to go;)
I have the DE 5000 and it came with the module with two short alligator clips and tweezers for smd stuff. The tweezers refuse to calibrate although i see nothing wrong with them. So i made op some leads with kelvin clips and they do calibrate so go figure.
No worries about the battery consumption of the DE-5000. It's pretty good. I've had mine since late 2018 and have yet to replace the battery. It sees only occasional use, so for someone who uses it every day it might be a different story, but I think for most use cases the consumption is low enough to be a non issue. You can also get a power adapter for it, but at that point you might consider a benchtop model.
I have the same DER 5000. I think it's a great meter for hobbyists . I think I paid well over $130 but I wanted all the options. It gives decent readings "in circuit" with the optional tweezers. Plus it's made in Taiwan and NOT CHINA!

The cem tweezers are for checking in circuit caps for esr I suspect. Sorry for all the comments. I just remembered. Have you seen the new high-end hantek bench stuff. Not the dso but the psus and the 7.5 digit multimeter and 3 channel signal gen. I don't know how good they are but the black industrial design is super nice. They're jet black like the new rigol stuff.
I think you are correct about the tweezers;) I have been looking at some of the Hantek stuff - it looks really nice - but they are not easy to reach and don't seem interested in sending me things to review - even on a loan basis.
I have the entire kit+case DER DE-5000 and I love it. It also came with power adapter, so you don't use batteries, but I hate the corded meters, so I don't use it. Thanks for sharing!

Hello Eddie, I like that we can see the variety of functions and how each meter behaves. But, it's a little hard without a LCR calibration standard to check against? Also, do you have a recommendation for a similar LCR meter that can handle larger farad values? Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your feedback. Real standards are very expensive, and I think most meters pretty much meet their spec, so I find it more how they work and compare in features. Funny thing is that there are some multimeters that measure very large capacitors - higher than many LCR meters. How big a capacitor would you like to read?

I have the Peak, and it didn’t work at all with big power caps. I just got the very pricey Agilent/HP/Keysight U1733C unit, would love to see how it compares.

Thank you for your great review! :-) I do myself own a DER, was so lucky to get a used one for about $30, I have bought rechargeable 9V batteries, and it works fine for my seldom usage. I am thinking about if you can talk about glue or whatever is used to secure components on the board, I have seen Mr. EEV troubleshoot some gear where the fault was the glue that was become conductive over the years. Is that possible to know beforehand? Maybe using a Giga Ohm resistance meter or?

I am thinking your range table is badly limited. For example the DE5000 at 100 kHz frequency reads with 1 nH and 0.01 pF resolution. The DC and AC resistance ranges also go way lower than your list. Of course, if you are limiting the table to 100 Hz, just about all the resolutions are likely to be much coarser. On the other hand, the maximum ranges tend to be much higher. So, to get apples to apples comparisons, you must take the frequency into account.
I had the Instek, it was a very good meter but big and clunky, I guess if you're getting a lot of use out of it it's worth it but my bench has limited space so I got rid of it. Sometimes I miss it though, it's a lot better than these guys but it should be for the price.
Oh dear..😁 Now I am even more confused. I need a cap tester, and I have a Hantek dso5202. Therefore I decided for a 1833, but if I buy the East Tester 432 I get the kelvin clip for free.. that's about 80$ extra for the Hantek. I am just a simple hobby guy, but I don't want to buy to small. I could probably do with a Mesr 100, ( highly recommend by Richard from Learn Electronics repair channel) but that is almost a 100 us, so I might as well go for something bigger/better that is more future proof. What does people think; Is the East tester just as good as the Hantek when I only need it for hobby and namely smps repair? Thank from Denmark. The Mesr100 is only for capacitors where the Hantek and East Tester can do capacitors and resistors too, The East Tester looks great and I'd like to get one to review, but they are a bit pricy. The 433 is not much more than the 432, so I'd go with that one: amzn.to/3Qcncdr But the Hantek 1833 is great and might be as good in specs as the East Tester but much better price: amzn.to/3scRpkH
The speed of that CEM is a deal breaker, its no faster than a meter with cap testing, in over two decades in electronics professionally I have never measured inductance above 10H, maybe some weird RF guy has, but normal folk do not need above that). Keysight also do one, but its over a grand, the Peak ones seem to get good reviews, but built in leads without sockets puts me off, so it really only leaves us with the Hantek or that DER, BUT the DER seems to be firmly chinglish, low quality internals judging the pictures online, so yeah Hantek baby! (shame about the dim display though!). One note, it should have a zero out function or relative, thats pretty essential, did you not find it on the Hantek?
Ed I was going to buy that Der last year and the price jumped like a hundred bucks more haha. I have a cheap one. I have a decent little esr meter though. Got it on sale last year for 45 when it was usually 120.

I apologize for nagging Ed. I was trying to help you and me at the same time. 2 to 300k in damages but atleast us and the brood of rescued cats we have are ok. We prepared for it but you never think it'll happen to you. This is the only app that works but I have to download videos and can see the notifications. I just needed somewhere to vent my friend.
The DER EE (DE-5000) when you buy it as a complte set, you get, the tweezers, the USB cable and transmitter, the guard cable ( green one), the test instrument, the power supply that gives you the choice to stay on as long as you wish because it disconect the APO (Automatic Power Off function) that permits when battery use to save energy, also you get the short connector for component measurements, the owners manual, the installation software CD, and the usb cable, and finally the protection case. In my lab, I have all the instruments that Sencore made, LCs up to the last one until they sell the company (The LC 103 "Resolver"), that includes their test calibration gear for the LCs, the frequency counters, etc...also al their published News letters and magazines, trainings, for LCRs, VCRs, TV (Scopes, Signal Gen...) the Audio Analyzer PA-81, with the accessory that enhance the measurements up to 5000W...a long story... From Agilent, Fluke, Yokogawa, Tinsley, Aim TT, Brymen, Beckman, Hioki, many test gear for my journey that with 70 years continues the saga...Since vacum tubes , to this days playing, programming and designing with Aduinos, Beaglebone Black, Pi's...etc. And my friend, following you, enjoying with your great joy, behind the " Tools of the trade". I have several meters, including a clone of the CEM, which is cloned ALL over the place, all using the same LCR chip, INCLUDING the DE-5000!!!!!!! They are expensive`ish (i.e. CRAP VALUE )but are ok. The the Hantek looks way better (especially on value/price), and I have been coveting it for some 5 months now, still sitting in my eBay basket, so THANK YOU for your review! :) BTW the Peak thing you showed was reviewed by a British channel - don't remember channel name - Yeah it is not great, and the price for it is CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!! Peak in general is way overpriced for what you get!
It seems that Hantek has 4 wire measuring option only at built in terminals. So I don't quite understand how could it have such low resistance range working with test leads? That looks more like a gimmick.
Thanks for the question! It needs to be calibrated with test leads or at terminals - whichever the measurement is done with. The terminals are best of course;)
@@KissAnalog what gets me is that the lead calibration figures aren't saved into the Hantek 1833C's memory at power off. So if you use the same test leads/fixture all the time which most people do, you have to go through the open/shorted lead calibration process every time you power the meter on. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it didn't take this stupid meter such a dreadfully long time to complete the process.
I've wanted to pick up an ET433. They are a bit expensive for a handheld LCR meter, but if they are that good - maybe they are worth it. For a bit more, you can get the Matrix that I have, which has great specs: amzn.to/3KMjxku

Hi I just got my ET 432 today. It is very much like the Hantek, but it is cheaper** and has better specs. Also the kelvin probe and the charger plus battery is standard. I paid 190$ including shipping. There is only one (1) video on TH-cam, and one in a very foreign language 😅 so no help here. Maybe you could make one (the video where you just showed a picture of it doesn't count! 😁😄) ** The Hantek is sold without battery (on ALIX) and kelvin probe, so with this the ET is a little cheaper. But the ET comes without a bag. I also had to choose between a Hantek handheld scope/multimeter and a owon, here I went with the owon since it had a larger screen. Finally I also bought a Fnirsi tablet scope because I wanted a floating scope, and also a scope with touch screen. The Fnirsi get very mixed reviews, and it may be more of a toy 😜 Kind regards Claus Denmark
Actually I do have a floating scope, because my Hantek dso5202p is running on a Studer inverter/battery.. I am actually making a new PSU with buck converters, so I can put lion batteries in it.. I'm very afraid of toasting my scopes.. BANG! - as Dave downunder calls it😄

Thanks Ed, good compares. I have the East Tester unit and really can't find anything to complain about, a little disappointed you didn't gave that badboy a good beating! On the model I have here the FREQ/LEVEL/BIAS all have adjustable resolutions (e.g. FREQ with 1Hz step resolution, 1Hz-to-100kHz) much like those benchtop high end LCRs does. Has DCR too, but particularly like the SCPI interface and commands, I have it comm via USB to a custom UI and charting/analysis software I wrote last year for it. ps. you're gaining weight, watchout ;)
Good content but please stop waving your hands, fingers,etc. in front of the camera when the purpose of the view is to show the meter, the component, etc. Every time the camera re-focuses so one just sees a blurry unfocused image. Also pre-plan your tests rather than the confusing scatter-gun approach you adopt. Makes following comparisons almost impossible. I use the Hantek 1833c plus other L/C and ESR meters. Keep up the good work.
Bought a Hantek occiloscope and it failed after just over a year. Turns out it was bad solder joints, so many the unit was not worth repairing, a total loss. Would never buy another Hantek device.

I have the DER DE5000 and I got it with case and leads. Furthermore, it also has a power adapter so I don't have to worry about the battery.

@@KissAnalog The benefit of the lower voltage testing above the higher one, is the ability to measure in-circuit and stay below the forward voltage of a lot of silicon junctions that may be in parallel or in the circuit somewhere. That lets you measure things unaffected.
Thanks Eddie, always great to watch your reviews. I have the DE-5000 but I'm thinking that all these guys are pretty close. One thing, even though you can zero the meters out I'm wondering if you should use the same leads for both meters when you do testing. I don't know if it would make a great difference but it might be interesting to check a component and then change the leads, zero it and check it again.
I'm looking at the B&K 880 because it's 4 wire and I think that changes things, you can only get so much out of two wire, especially when you start looking at ESR and milliohms and stuff like that. It does cost a lot more - about $350, I guess it's what you need it for and how much use you'll get out of it. I don't do much RF work so maybe the B&K is overkill for me.
One more thing, the DE-5000 does have a 9VDC plug so you can use an external source if it's on constantly.
I second the BK Precision 880. Comes with all the accessories. Price is higher but can compete with some of the lab grade stuff

@@KissAnalog I did some supercap work awhile ago, would have been nice to see something going up that high but I understand the logic of why these meters don't. I use my bench meters when I get into the low resistance area, you really need 4 wire for that. It's way above the price of these meters but if you want a really good meter get the Keysight 34465A. I have the older 34401A that was a landmark meter when they were Agilent and HP that does all my day to day stuff. I'm spoiled!
I got the DE-5000, and I'm disappointed with its reduced ESR resolution for larger capacitors which actually NEED higher resolution due to their much lower ESR.
I am now eyeing the BK880 and LCR Research Pro1.

Hi Eddie, Great Video Thankyou! I have the DER5000 for some Years now, its very battery-friendly even with the 9V Block (and Auto-Off). Further its has a 1mOhm Resolution in the Rs Range and 10mOhm in ESR Setting, is Relatively small(compared to the Hantek) and light. Cheers, Konstantin

I have the DE-5000 too, and it's always spot-on. Why it need 30 seconds calibration time, each "open" and "short", totally 60 seconds may be a mystery. But it works very well. It's not a new LCR-meter, but well proven with good reputation.

I tried to buy a DER early 2020 but it couldn’t get out of Japan due to you know what though you’d think they’d still allow exports. So I bought something which was UNI-T re-branded as TENMA. I felt it was (as it is) a Chinese copy also the tweezer is absolutely useless being made of cheese. Eventually I sent this back and successfully got a DER which I have been pretty happy with. I also own a PEAK ESR.

One point might be the guarding. I think the hantek is the only one that has an active guarding. The other one uses shield as guarding. But because of the price and the external powersupply I have ordered the DE-5000.

The Hantek looks just like my portable Hantek Oscilloscope. I'm sure to save money they just repurposed the case. Hantek is well within spec for my needs. That might end up being my X-mas present for myself this year.

I have the DER DE-5000 and it's ok. It doesn't eat up batteries as far as my experience goes, and you can plug in an adapter as well.
But I'm not super convinced of the readings for ESR and Q. I don't have any idea how to test this.
About low resistance measurements, though, your Keithley 2015 can take some really accurate measurements with Kelvin probes. And it has 6 1/2 digits, 100 microOhm resolution and 30 ppm accuracy...Why would you want to play around with handheld devices?
The biggest drawback of these LCR meters, for me, is that they don't measure leakage... your Sencore does with several 100 volts, no?

Thanks for sharing. I still use Sencore LC-102 for big stuff, and BK Precision 886 and 885 for everything else. The leads look VERY disappointing on the meters you reviewed. Milliohm resolution is important to me (0.001Ω), but a meter with one digit of resolution ok for solenoids, big resistors, etc (10:1 rule). Finally, inserting components' leads into front slots will take it's toll; get proper clips or fixture. I think those contacts are gold plated, to mate with proper fixtures and leadsets, and a few thousand various sized components scratching away will take their toll.

One of my Fluke 289's was stolen at a jobsite 😠, and i decided to put together a box of DECENT gear that yields less STING if damaged or stolen. But the leads on the DE-5000 are a joke; would need to upgrade. I'm going to look at your list again. You've already done some of the homework for me 👍. Hantek is interesting.
The Hantek I have although has rechargeable batteries, so you would think that would be much more convenient, sadly the standby current of the meter when it is off is plainly quite high as if I haven't used it for a couple of weeks, the batteries will be flat, and need charging, it can operate of the charger at the same time as charging the batteries, but the readings jump all over the place, to the point the instrument is unstable! I am intending to upgrade the firmware to see if that helps. I understand that the hantek does not have a dedicated ADC, but uses the one in the processor, and we know they can be noisy so that would account for the unstable readings when running the meter off the charger.
it would be better if there was a proper break on/off switch as its likly such meters are used infrequently. The other thing I would like to know, are there switching regulators being used in the hantek, and some of the noise is making the readings unstable.

Just refurbished my Wayne Kerr b424 LCR meter, does the job for matching parts etc, I also have a Peak ESR70 for capacitors only which does ESR.

I had the der de 5000, very nice meter, but fried it during some 100 volt large capacitor reforming, dont for get to discharge :) just got the hantek 1833c and it feels much better quality wise, but haven't really tried it yet, as to your review, what frequency did the z meter use? And you should get some reference parts I know they are expensive but very nice to have.

Hello, I was hoping you may have some insight of the accuracy differences of different ac line splitters. I have read reviews where some people say the 10x and 1x are off on some models when in theory they should be the same reading but just need a decimal place shift for the 10x vs 1x. Any thoughts?

Yes that is correct. These Z meters are pretty awesome and I have found them in many labs that I have worked - or had the equipment manager get one for the lab;) However - I need to get rid of some equipment so this one might have to go;)
I have the DE 5000 and it came with the module with two short alligator clips and tweezers for smd stuff. The tweezers refuse to calibrate although i see nothing wrong with them. So i made op some leads with kelvin clips and they do calibrate so go figure.

Which one would you buy between the DE-5000 and the CEM DT9935?
No worries about the battery consumption of the DE-5000. It's pretty good. I've had mine since late 2018 and have yet to replace the battery.
It sees only occasional use, so for someone who uses it every day it might be a different story, but I think for most use cases the consumption is low enough to be a non issue. You can also get a power adapter for it, but at that point you might consider a benchtop model.
I have the same DER 5000. I think it's a great meter for hobbyists . I think I paid well over $130 but I wanted all the options. It gives decent readings "in circuit" with the optional tweezers. Plus it's made in Taiwan and NOT CHINA!

Sorry for all the comments. I just remembered. Have you seen the new high-end hantek bench stuff. Not the dso but the psus and the 7.5 digit multimeter and 3 channel signal gen. I don't know how good they are but the black industrial design is super nice. They're jet black like the new rigol stuff.

Thanks for your feedback. Real standards are very expensive, and I think most meters pretty much meet their spec, so I find it more how they work and compare in features. Funny thing is that there are some multimeters that measure very large capacitors - higher than many LCR meters. How big a capacitor would you like to read?

I am thinking about if you can talk about glue or whatever is used to secure components on the board, I have seen Mr. EEV troubleshoot some gear where the fault was the glue that was become conductive over the years. Is that possible to know beforehand? Maybe using a Giga Ohm resistance meter or?

you can actually detect those moisture build up using cheap analog meter witn x10k ohms range, including leaks on diode and transistors
I am thinking your range table is badly limited. For example the DE5000 at 100 kHz frequency reads with 1 nH and 0.01 pF resolution. The DC and AC resistance ranges also go way lower than your list. Of course, if you are limiting the table to 100 Hz, just about all the resolutions are likely to be much coarser. On the other hand, the maximum ranges tend to be much higher. So, to get apples to apples comparisons, you must take the frequency into account.
Great feedback! It is great that there are different frequencies - and they are important for the different capacitor types.

I had the Instek, it was a very good meter but big and clunky, I guess if you're getting a lot of use out of it it's worth it but my bench has limited space so I got rid of it. Sometimes I miss it though, it's a lot better than these guys but it should be for the price.

Now I am even more confused. I need a cap tester, and I have a Hantek dso5202. Therefore I decided for a 1833, but if I buy the East Tester 432 I get the kelvin clip for free.. that's about 80$ extra for the Hantek. I am just a simple hobby guy, but I don't want to buy to small. I could probably do with a Mesr 100, ( highly recommend by Richard from Learn Electronics repair channel) but that is almost a 100 us, so I might as well go for something bigger/better that is more future proof. What does people think;
Is the East tester just as good as the Hantek when I only need it for hobby and namely smps repair?

Great to hear from friends in Denmark. The Mesr100 is only for capacitors where the Hantek and East Tester can do capacitors and resistors too, The East Tester looks great and I'd like to get one to review, but they are a bit pricy. The 433 is not much more than the 432, so I'd go with that one: amzn.to/3Qcncdr
But the Hantek 1833 is great and might be as good in specs as the East Tester but much better price: amzn.to/3scRpkH
The speed of that CEM is a deal breaker, its no faster than a meter with cap testing, in over two decades in electronics professionally I have never measured inductance above 10H, maybe some weird RF guy has, but normal folk do not need above that).
Keysight also do one, but its over a grand, the Peak ones seem to get good reviews, but built in leads without sockets puts me off, so it really only leaves us with the Hantek or that DER, BUT the DER seems to be firmly chinglish, low quality internals judging the pictures online, so yeah Hantek baby! (shame about the dim display though!).
One note, it should have a zero out function or relative, thats pretty essential, did you not find it on the Hantek?
It does appear that the East meter is pretty much identical to the Hantek, and as of this write is $20 cheaper than the Hantek.
Ed I was going to buy that Der last year and the price jumped like a hundred bucks more haha. I have a cheap one. I have a decent little esr meter though. Got it on sale last year for 45 when it was usually 120.

@@KissAnalog man. You'll never believe but we just lost half our home and belongings in a hurricane. There was a line where you tear your house down and rebuild and we narrowly avoided it my friend. I apologize for nagging Ed. I was trying to help you and me at the same time. 2 to 300k in damages but atleast us and the brood of rescued cats we have are ok. We prepared for it but you never think it'll happen to you.
This is the only app that works but I have to download videos and can see the notifications. I just needed somewhere to vent my friend.
The DER EE (DE-5000) when you buy it as a complte set, you get, the tweezers, the USB cable and transmitter, the guard cable ( green one), the test instrument, the power supply that gives you the choice to stay on as long as you wish because it disconect the APO (Automatic Power Off function) that permits when battery use to save energy, also you get the short connector for component measurements, the owners manual, the installation software CD, and the usb cable, and finally the protection case.
In my lab, I have all the instruments that Sencore made, LCs up to the last one until they sell the company (The LC 103 "Resolver"), that includes their test calibration gear for the LCs, the frequency counters, etc...also al their published News letters and magazines, trainings, for LCRs, VCRs, TV (Scopes, Signal Gen...) the Audio Analyzer PA-81, with the accessory that enhance the measurements up to 5000W...a long story...
From Agilent, Fluke, Yokogawa, Tinsley, Aim TT, Brymen, Beckman, Hioki, many test gear for my journey that with 70 years continues the saga...Since vacum tubes , to this days playing, programming and designing with Aduinos, Beaglebone Black, Pi's...etc.

I have several meters, including a clone of the CEM, which is cloned ALL over the place, all using the same LCR chip, INCLUDING the DE-5000!!!!!!! They are expensive`ish (i.e. CRAP VALUE )but are ok. The the Hantek looks way better (especially on value/price), and I have been coveting it for some 5 months now, still sitting in my eBay basket, so THANK YOU for your review! :)
BTW the Peak thing you showed was reviewed by a British channel - don't remember channel name - Yeah it is not great, and the price for it is CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems that Hantek has 4 wire measuring option only at built in terminals. So I don't quite understand how could it have such low resistance range working with test leads? That looks more like a gimmick.
Thanks for the question! It needs to be calibrated with test leads or at terminals - whichever the measurement is done with. The terminals are best of course;)
@@KissAnalog what gets me is that the lead calibration figures aren't saved into the Hantek 1833C's memory at power off. So if you use the same test leads/fixture all the time which most people do, you have to go through the open/shorted lead calibration process every time you power the meter on. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it didn't take this stupid meter such a dreadfully long time to complete the process.
The parameters for ET433 on the paper are to good to be real.
I've wanted to pick up an ET433. They are a bit expensive for a handheld LCR meter, but if they are that good - maybe they are worth it. For a bit more, you can get the Matrix that I have, which has great specs: amzn.to/3KMjxku

I just got my ET 432 today. It is very much like the Hantek, but it is cheaper** and has better specs. Also the kelvin probe and the charger plus battery is standard. I paid 190$ including shipping. There is only one (1) video on TH-cam, and one in a very foreign language 😅 so no help here. Maybe you could make one (the video where you just showed a picture of it doesn't count! 😁😄)
** The Hantek is sold without battery (on ALIX) and kelvin probe, so with this the ET is a little cheaper. But the ET comes without a bag. I also had to choose between a Hantek handheld scope/multimeter and a owon, here I went with the owon since it had a larger screen. Finally I also bought a Fnirsi tablet scope because I wanted a floating scope, and also a scope with touch screen. The Fnirsi get very mixed reviews, and it may be more of a toy 😜

Thanks Ed, good compares. I have the East Tester unit and really can't find anything to complain about, a little disappointed you didn't gave that badboy a good beating! On the model I have here the FREQ/LEVEL/BIAS all have adjustable resolutions (e.g. FREQ with 1Hz step resolution, 1Hz-to-100kHz) much like those benchtop high end LCRs does. Has DCR too, but particularly like the SCPI interface and commands, I have it comm via USB to a custom UI and charting/analysis software I wrote last year for it. ps. you're gaining weight, watchout ;)

Good content but please stop waving your hands, fingers,etc. in front of the camera when the purpose of the view is to show the meter, the component, etc. Every time the camera re-focuses so one just sees a blurry unfocused image. Also pre-plan your tests rather than the confusing scatter-gun approach you adopt. Makes following comparisons almost impossible. I use the Hantek 1833c plus other L/C and ESR meters. Keep up the good work.

Bought a Hantek occiloscope and it failed after just over a year. Turns out it was bad solder joints, so many the unit was not worth repairing, a total loss. Would never buy another Hantek device.

Sorry you found it so bad. I've spent a lot of money to try and get good equipment but it is difficult to get it all right all the time.

Yes great point. Most of the better LCR meters will require calibration before use for the best measurements.

Do you mean it doesn't have a Safety ground connection? It is a battery operated device, so it doesn't really need one.
