I grew up with a 20 Pound Norge by Fedders for the longest. Mom bought it in 1972 new and I was born in 78 we had it until she bought her Miele in 1995 they were still working fine. They are relentless about tearing your clothes to shreds. I don't know what is rougher washing the Direct Drive Whirlpool or the Norge. The Norge is very jerky every time is goes back and forth its like bam,bam there is no slow down. I bought a Magic Chef a few years ago, living in Tenn there quite easy to find cause they were made for the longest in Cleveland, Tenn which is 20 mins from my house. If somebody wants to find a old Magic Chef start there I see them quite often.

For these vintage machines with all the water I usually put two tablets because they were designed for the HE washers, which have three spoons of water in them, and even though they fill up a little more during self clean, it’s never going to compare to this washer.
Loved all the washing action excellent with this washer!
Hey Peter! I think you are right about these older machines fill up more, but we also have to remember that most HE machines are like 4.3-5.3 CU FT and they fill up maybe 3/4 on self clean, which is around equivalent to these filled up all the way.
@@DylBuilder1 yes but remember that these cleaning tablets were originally designed for front load washers, which take 3 cups of water even on their cleaning cycles.
Here’s a strange thing, the Samsung Toploader, that I had offered water level selection, and on the tub clean cycle would only fill up to the large level even though it had an extra large water level, I found that crazy.
I always imagined to myself. What are they thinking?
@@petermaz701 Oh yes makes sense. Samsung laundry has some pretty major problems, one of which being that it exists. LOL
@petermaz701: Those washing machine cleaner tabs look like Automatic Dishwasher detergent tabs like FINISH.

I would love to find one of these machines. Family had a Norge in the '70s that was a tank.

Norge i believe
Norge made these for magic chef.
I think these are Maytag built. Maytag took over magic chef I think in the late '80s. There was a change as you can see to the agitator.Still a Norge based design though.
@jerryholston6536: Magic Chef WASHERS were made by the original Maytag Company which also made the NORGE WASHERS. When Whirlpool took over Maytag Magic Chef and NORGE were immediately discontinued unfortunately.
