The irony of mixing up Brigham Young and Baylor is that they are now in the same conference, and are both private religious Universities. They happen to be different sects though (along with TCU) so the Big 12 is gonna be a bit interesting from that perspective from now on.

The LSU-Texas A&M game was a big chunk of the reason the overtime rules have been changed - the game went on for well over an hour after the end of regulation. At the time, the rules were: each team gets a possession from the 25 yard line; if scores are still equal, do it again; starting with the 3rd, you can't kick the extra point after a touchdown (have to go for 2). Shortly after this game, they added that starting with the 5th OT, each team gets one play to attempt a 2-point conversion instead of possession at the 25. Now it's no kicked extra point in the 2nd OT, 2-point conversion attempt only (no possession from the 25) in the 3rd and beyond. Illinois and Penn State have played a 9OT game under the new rules, but in terms of real time that game was almost 45 minutes shorter than LSU-Texas A&M because of the rule change.

    • @zandylovesrisk
      @zandylovesrisk ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't like the change. No strategy in regards of going for the touchdown when 4th down or safely kicking the field goal. They should have moved back the starting field to either 35 or 45, so easy field goals would need to be earned.

For context on the UCF VS Auburn clip. That year UCF who is normally a mediocre program that goes like 6-6 went 12-0 and were ranked 12 the playoff committee said they played no one that was good and so they refused to give them better rankings and stiffed them a top 4 ranking and the chance to play for the national championship. They gave them a BCS bowl bid against #7 Auburn in the peach bowl who were 10-3 but had victories over Alabama and Georgia when both teams were ranked number 1, Georgia and Bama played each other in the national championship. Auburn entered the game 10 point favorites to win and UCF came in and played lights out and won. Their fans claimed national champions after being the only undefeated team. The NCAA actually now recognizes both Alabama and UCF as the 2018 NCAA National Champions. It was an absolute Cinderella story for their team and one that was so glad I got to see. They went on to win 26 straight games before losing. Thank you for reminding me about this.

13:50 Your initial reaction of "how?" is correct as usually it would be an interception.
However, every once in a while, especially on very long and high passes the defenders will misjudge either the length of the throw and/or the timing of their jump and the ball will sail over them all to a waiting receiver. Its very rare, but definitely something that happens. Outside of any kind of windy conditions my experience is not only is it inherently hard to track a football from 50-70 yards away on a huge arc, but this length/trajectory is unusual enough where the regular timing of the defensive backs is disrupted. They're very often accelerating rapidly to close the distance on receivers with lower trajectory and quicker arriving passes, in these cases the natural inclination to move towards the ball may inadvertently "suck them in" leading towards an overshoot.
We grew up playing a game called "3 flys/flies up" where it was basically a recreation of this scenario and a QB would launch these types of passes and a group of us would fight for catches and a chance to rotate to QB. Not only did it teach you how to judge the flight of this type of throw, but it also reinforced how to time your jump and attack the ball at the highest point. Alternatively, what often happened was the ball would be tipped and the catch was made by those prepared and actively looking for rebounds and caroms.
All in all it's a deceptively difficult situation for the defender, even if they're just sitting back there waiting on the ball to come down. The last wildcard is traditionally most cornerbacks are shorter than their receiver counterparts, so they'll have even more inclination/incentive to be aggressive to offset their height imbalance. if you ever see a tall receiver or tight end with a strong basketball background, they're especially dangerous situations as their body positioning, timing, and fighting instincts for securing basketball rebounds translates perfectly here....either to compete for the original catch, or securing deflections with quick and "sticky" hands.
Enjoy the videos fellas, have a great weekend!!

Excellent description of the complex dynamics of this situation. Also, add the increased difficulty of tracking the ball at night, under artificial lighting (you lose sight of the ball in the lights), with the added caution by defenders to avoid a pass interference penalty, makes this situation far more challenging than it appears.

11:15 I don't know if any other videos you've seen explain this, but college football has really weird overtime. Each team gets a chance on offense, with the ball starting 25 yards away from a touchdown - so they're already in field goal range - and if they're still tied after that, they try again.
Now, the rules at the time were that, starting with the 3rd OT, if a team scored a touchdown with their possession, they had to go for a 2-point conversion afterward - no extra point kicks.
Now they make teams go for 2 after a touchdown in the 2nd OT, and if they're still tied, every overtime after that is just a single play for each team: One team lines up for a 2-point attempt, then the other team does, and it goes back and forth until there's a winner.
The reason I say that's weird is because what makes a team good in overtime is different from what makes a team good during the entire rest of the game. It's deciding wins and losses based on a very very very small part of a whole football game.
It's a bit like how knockout soccer tournaments have penalty kicks at the end - except soccer is so low scoring that, without PK's to break the tie, the game could go on forever. As you've seen, college football games have no problem putting points on the board.
Sorry for the length of this post, but it's definitely one irritation I have with college football. If two teams are that closely matched that even 1 or 2 overtimes can't separate them, then what's wrong with calling the game a tie and letting these full time college students get a little extra sleep? If the NFL is okay with a tie for their professional athletes, that should be good enough for college kids.

Just some info for reviews in college football- when an initial call is made, if there is something that needs to be reviewed, they will be contacted by the conference. The review needs to happen before the next play. After the review, the refs will say if a call was “confirmed”, “stands”, or is “overturned”. To overturn a call, “indisputable video evidence” is needed. “Confirmed” means that the initial ref call was confirmed. “Stands” means that for whatever reason, there’s not evidence on either way with the initial call, so the original call stands. “Overturned” means that the initial call was overturned. Because of this, this typically means that most reviews are not overturned.

The first clip, the reason why that was a close review is that the in Stadium clocks, and the offical clock also count in milliseconds. The on field clocks read 0.01 when LSU got the snap off, it was reviewed because the official clock had a different reading. On review the offical clock read 0.00 prior to the snap rendering the play dead. And Auburn gets the upset.

I've mentioned it before, one of big dufferences between NCAA and NFL are the "hash marks" down the center of the field (pitch). In the NFL they are in-line with the goalposts (uprights). But in college they are much further apart. This results is much steeper angles when kicking field goals up close. You will see missed kicks more often in college games. Again, to explain, if the previous play ends out-of-bounds or between the hash-mark and the out-of-bounds (sidelines) the ball is placed at the nearest hash-mark. If a play ends anywhere between the hash-marks the ball is placed there for the next play.

BYU= Brigham Young University in Utah. The Mormon school.
Great memory on the USC/Texas Rose Bowl! If you ask me it’s the greatest college football game in my lifetime.
My Wisconsin Badgers are always on the wrong side of the highlights in these clips 😅
I really enjoy college football but that second clip highlights a problem I have with it. There you have an undefeated University of Central Florida playing outside of the College Football Playoff because their strength of schedule was deemed too weak. All of the teams in this video are ostensibly playing for the same championship but unlike in basketball it seems there are entire conferences that are deemed too weak to make the playoffs regardless of how good their teams are. If undefeated teams can’t get in who can? Hopefully the expansion of the College Football Playoff prevents something like this happening again.

The GREATEST finish in college football history is known simply as "The PLAY." It happened in 1982 in "The Big Game", the 85th annual rivalry match between Stanford University and CAL (University of California - Berkley). After multiple lead changes, iconic Stanford quarterback (future NFL hall of famer) John Elway, in his final college game, managed another of his signature 4th quarter come from behind drives, putting his team into field goal range with just eight seconds to play. Mark Harmon then kicked a 35-yard field goal, giving Stanford what appeared to be a 20-19 last second victory. What happened next is considered by many as the most DRAMATIC and unbelievable finish in college football HISTORY...

There was something else going on in the first LSU/Auburn clip that they didn’t show. I can’t remember exactly because it’s been so long but LSU got screwed. There was something happening with the clock. Either the ref was dragging ass spotting the ball or Auburn was delaying play somehow.

Hey guys, just wanted to say I love the college football reactions! As a huge Michigan Wolverines fan, who naturally hates the Ohio State Buckeyes, I would like to recommend a video to react to about the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. There is a half hour documentary HBO did on it about 15 years ago that talks about why the rivalry is the biggest in all of college sports and perhaps the biggest in all of American sports.
For instance, the Michigan-Ohio State game was by far the most viewed game of the season this past year and is almost always the most watched college football game every season. Both also have stadiums that seat 100,000+ with Michigan having the largest football stadium, college or pro in the world. OSU I think has the third or fourth largest.
I also wouldn't mind watching you react to the game from last season, '22, where both were undefeated and OSU was ranked #2 and Michigan #3 in the country. It was a huge game. And I don't want to give away any more than that. The '21 game in the snow would also be a great game to react to.

The first round of the NFL Draft was last night. I don't think it's something you guys could necessarily react to, but something you might find interesting to pay attention to. It's the bridge between the college game and the NFL. What are the needs of the teams? The best player doesn't necessarily get picked first depending on what position a team needs. What are some of the trades that go on before and during the draft?
Example: My Chicago Bears. Not a great season last year (3 wins - 13 losses), but that was somewhat expected. But we've got a stud Quarterback in Justin Fields who had a pretty historic season. Some might not agree with that assessment, but he's our guy. With that league worst record, the Bears got the #1 overall pick in this year's draft. But they didn't just use that to pick a single player. One player wouldn't make a difference on a team that needs a ton of improvement. It's much more valuable to use that pick to get more bodies on the team.
So they traded that pick a few weeks ago to the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers took that #1 pick to get a Quarterback (that the Bears don’t need) and the Bears got the Panthers 1st round pick (#9 overall), their 2nd Round pick (#61), their 1st round pick for the 2024 draft and their 2nd round pick for 2025, and a solid primary wide receiver going into his 5th NFL season in DJ Moore. Quite a haul. Then on draft day last night, they took that 1st round #9 pick and traded down again with Philadelphia to get their 1st round pick (#10) one spot down, and Philadelphia’s 4th round pick for 2024. In the end, that’s potentially 6 players they’re getting for that single pick. Interesting stuff.

As comments are saying, BYU is Brigham Young U - which is affiliated with the Mormon religion. Brigham Young the man was one of the early leaders of Mormonism in the 1800s and helped found the school. I only mention all that to say that when or if you get to videos about NFL Hall of Fame QB Steve Young - Brigham was his great-great-grandfather (maybe 3 greats). Steve was an All-American QB at BYU, attending the school named after his own ancestor.

I saw one of the clips where UCF won their bowl game to go undefeated on the year. That year UCF was calling themselves the true National Champions, and, considering the actual National champion had 2 losses on the year, and that the, at the time new College Football Playoff was supposed to cater more to teams like UCF, who play only FBS opponents in non-conference ganes, and less to teams like Alabama, who pad their record by playing FCS (Lower divison) teams in their non-conference schedule. They had a legitimate claim. It would be like if you could win the Premier League, by only facing League Championship or lower opposition.

OMG I just have to provide more context the Ohio State vs Purdue clip is Markus Bailey I played high school football with him and when I watched him do that being a Buckeye fan I was sad but I was so excited for him that I remember screaming OMG Markus pick that when I saw it go towards him and then he had wide open field in front of him and I was like take that shit back you deserve it. They had a young man that followed their team that went to Purdue that had cancer I believe and he wanted them to beat Ohio State in Columbus and they did it was pretty wild because as you can see OSU was 7-0 ranked number 2 and Purdue was 3-3 unranked. Also you guys should add Ohio State's 2014-15 season to the list of things to react to because that was an incredible season from them especially at the end.

So in college football if u have a number next to your name on the scoreboard that’s your teams rank in all of college football the lower the rank u are, gives u a better chance and being in the national championship game, kinda like the Super Bowl but for college, so an upset would be unranked Pitt beating second ranked Clemson, u lose your rank goes up so u want to keep winning to lower your rank, hopefully that makes sense!

BYU is a mormon school in Provo Utah, they are one of those teams not in a power conference but is good enough to play with teams that are, they are really close to University Of Utah, and if I remember from my college days, they hate each others guts, students and players from both schools frequently get arrested for doing messed up shit to the others campus, pretty funny seeing how that comes out in goody 2 shoes mormons over football.

That A&M comeback against LSU could only happen in college. In the NFL if a player falls on his own and he isnt touched down by an opposing player then play continues
