I listened to the Midgard at CanJam with several different headphones. It sounded really great. Then I went to The Schittr and listened to everything else. I'm now waiting to order the Midgard.
About one year ago, my 24-year-old Creek OBH-11 SE Class A headphone amp finally died. I purchased a Singxer SA-1 Fully Balanced Fully Discrete Class A headphone amp to replace my Creek amp. The SA-1 sounded highly "veiled," although I did not perform the capacitor bypass mod (most reviewers said it only made a very small difference). The difference I heard between the Creek and the SA-1 was significant, so I sold the SA1 on eBay. As a temporary solution (until I figured out which Class A amp I "really" wanted) I bought the $199 Schiit Magnius, which I used in fully balanced mode with my balanced DAC and balanced cables on my Sennheiser HD-660S. I have come to love the Magnius and have no plans to replace it. It might be interesting to compare the Magnius with the new Midgard, but the transparency and clarity of the Magnius is astounding to me. All I have to do is forget that it is a simple op-amp design, not look at photos of the incredibly sparse circuit board, and just listen to the music. The Magnius is by far the most under-rated piece of audio equipment that I have encountered (at least when run in fully balanced mode on input and output).
This is my first watch…love the format…you have sold me…I already own the Lokius and Vali+…..I want to buy all my gear from you guys now…laid back, in charge and way cool. Was in the fence about the Frey+….no more. You guys are just awesome!

The Skoll sounds awesome, you could do an accessory cable going from the 5 pin DIN type connector on most tonearms to 2 XLRs to turn ordinarily unbalanced turntables to balanced. Phono cartridges are, like most pro microphones, inherently balanced.
Balance control? I don't do room treatments I have all kinds of shapes and reflection services surfaces in my main room which is my living room I have to live while I am listening so my balance control is I move my chair. I also move it when I play guitar or I move it when I am eating. I move it when I watch TV and I move it depending on the type of music I'm listening to or playing the drums. I find it is the ultimate balance control.
A lot of unbalanced turntables can be easily converted to balanced be rewiring. You take the output of the cartridge, and make that the hot and return and make chasis ground the shield. In theory most turntables are already "balanced ready" as they have the RCA output, and the separate ground wire.
Bought the Midgard, love it. Bang for the buck incarnate. Also bought a Skoll. To my surprise the left channel had quite a buzz when you were up near the speaker. Tried everything, switching cables, outlets, etc...wouldn't go away. Setup an exchange for a new unit...same problem. The 2 other phono stages I have on hand (MoFi Studio, Rega Fono) did not have this noise. My preamp is a Schiit Kara, ran the Yggy rca's out to the same input on the Kara that the Skoll is using...no noise. Hooked up the Skoll to the Kara with nothing going into the Skoll...same noise. I'm baffled, couldn't figure out what the problem is so I got a refund. Which is sad, because outside of that noise, the Skoll sounded great. Customer service during this whole thing was perfect btw, Schiit takes care of their customers!
This year I took delivery of a LYR+ and bifrost 2/64. Bear in mind, I've heard an extensive list of solid state and tube amps and DACs both cheap and high end. The LYR+ is my endgame. So is the BF2/64 I want for nothing else. I'll stick with Schiit, someone else can stick with shit like darkvoice. Same goes for DAC's. The overhyped Topping (which arrive DOA and they have no customer service) or the over rated Denefrips don't impress me. There is nothing they do that the bifrost2/64 doesn't do as well, in fact better. People can argue until it sucks the oxygen out of a blimp hanger and its....subjective. Well done. And no, I didn't bother audition a $10,000 quantum-ladder laser gyro zero point energy anti-jitter dac from "Heavy and shiny audio jewelry inc".
tube rolling (not for sound but to have a big honking blue tube sticking out of my amp) is extremely satisfying. i love that the solid stage component wasn't slacked on. it's amazing and the extra gain from the tube stage is just icing. buyer dt 880 600ohm really came alive with the lyr+
Skoll is a good competition for project pre amps with their balanced tables...the TEAC is also a great balanced table....Skoll and Kara are great match...
I just happen to use speakers with two 15" Marantz woofers each, in a 6 foot tall front ported box (with just one 15, it was straining at very high volume).
my favorite brands so far are: Vintage (B&K amps), NAD equipment, Vintage Denon and some Sony pieces - and not Vintage SCHIIT Audio! Keep doing a good job and be proud, made in America baby!!!

I needed SE in and balanced out because my turntable is 25 feet away from my preamp. At the time the only affordable balanced one I could find was the moon LP 310 for $2500 it’s a great phono stage but more expensive than my turntable. If that new preamp would’ve been out, I would’ve sure given it a shot first.
I have my share of Schiit in my listening room. I would very much like a “Saga-sized” box with EQ, balance (possibly 2 separate volume controls), and a MONO button/switch. The balance because my hearing is not equal on both sides and the MONO function for “stupid bad” early stereo recordings of otherwise good songs…
Midgard sounds super interesting. Thanks for making it cheap enough that basically anyone can get it if they want. Will be interesting to see how it stacks up against other amps under 1k. Exciting!

great news about the Skoll. The Mani is a great phono stage. It really hits way above its weight. It is yet to be seen where the Skoll lands, but hopefully it gets to the hands of good reviewers in YT and magazines. I'd like to see how it fares against Vincent PHO701, Musical Fidelity MX-VYNL, NVA P1, and Aurorasound Vida Prima... dream comparison. But hopefully Schiit releases performance tests at the same time of its release...
Phono cartridges are balanced sources. There may be some MM exceptions that are not balanced. Converting a turntable to balanced can be as simple as swapping out the phono cable.
I was hoping to see a turbo charged Ragnarok, hint hint. However I’m looking at a Thorens turntable that has balanced out, so Skol most will likely be the one. Already love my Mani2. Another cool one would be a Urd-DAC combo with the USB hub from the URD.
All I want to see is for Schiit to start getting on the ball with 12v trigger. And maybe do a higher end pre-amp that's transparent enough to do justice to Tyr. I haven't tried the Kara, to be fair. But I have heard Frey S with Tyrs and the Freya was simply not on Tyr's level. It has a pleasant signature, but cost a lot of resolution. Just my $.02, keep up the good work!
New Aegir with Halo and a bit more power? Um, YES PLEASE! Also 4-ohm stable as monoblocks would be nice (currently only the Tyr is recommended as a 4-ohm load monoblock).
I'm curious about the Urd. Seems like it is not getting much love. At it's price point a tft display showing album art and a decent dac built in might have done the trick.

Not only was Maginus boring, it is/one of Schit's worst amps. Just a blob of sound and nothing good to report of it all. It measured well and that is about it. You are up against that TI chip and sounds awful.
