@@bonesjackson81 jim........morrison? Well, MP is or was apparently tops amongst all recorded ROCK (& POP, allegedly) music. 6 plus octaves, all the way up to whistle register. Although he's not like that dimash freak who has that range in a natural singing voice (& goes beyond when he goes mixed register/fry etc.). But it's not bad to simply have ONE of the widest ranges in music. I think the record-holder has a 10-frickin octave ranges (tim storms), recorded in Branson, Missouri, of all places. BUT old timmy never made anything ppl really wanted to hear, so...

    • @nicholaslittlefield4424
      @nicholaslittlefield4424 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ignoblesavage5559 Exactly. Octave range is one thing. Having a voice people want to hear along with their music is something totally different. Mike patton has it all.

    • @ignoblesavage5559
      @ignoblesavage5559 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@nicholaslittlefield4424 honestly, I think it's as much about his writing as his voice. It just so happens that his voice can carry the tunes his brain churns out...and it's what puts him squarely in a tie--in MY BOOK--with darroh sudderth from Fair to Midland as my favorite singers ever. Darroh doesn't have.the range, of course, but when it comes to writing & executing really interesting & catchy tunes for rock & harder music...he's right there.
For those curious, here's a starter kit for Fair to Midland:
      -musical chairs -orphan Anthem 86
      -whiskey & ritalin -say when
-dance of the manatee -UH OH
      -granny niblo -quince
Dance of the manatee is their most "well-known" song, but there are SO MANY more good songs, and on just 3 albums (really 2 1/2 since one album has like 5 songs that were remade on another album). Also, I've included ZERO from their first album because I think it SUCKED...they were still looking for their sound. But most mike patton fans I've known who heard FRM really appreciated them (& a few turned into bigger fans than me). Also...darroh liked to drink & sing, so SOME of their live stuff sounds like shi-shi & some was AMAZING.

It’s worth noting that, when the band had already written and recorded much of the music for this album, they fired their first singer to bring an 18 year old Mike Patton from Mr. Bungle.
When he came in, the music from the album was complete. He wrote the lyrics, melody, and recorded the whole album all in the span of a week. Had to meet the deadline.
Now, knowing that this was just one track from the album of which it took one week for him to write, it makes it so freaking impressive. so fucking talented.

    • @chandlerstegner2442

This album came out when I was in 7th grade and I was one of those weirdos that had to read the lyrics to every song as I listened to it so I would know what they were saying and so I could memorize the words. You have done a better justice to Mike Pattons music than any other reaction channel. The time you put into breaking down his lyricism is awesome, and for a first time listen you caught a lot of his talents right away.
Some more info on Mike: He is fluent in 9 languages.
    Has albums in 7 languages.
Can sing in 8 octaves, the greatest of any popular artist ever measured.
He owns a record label, where he signs new and struggling bands and promotes them on his own dime.
He does not done drugs or drink, and claims his madness just comes from within his mind.
He voice acts: He is every creature in the movie I Am Legend. He is every zombie in Left 4 Dead, and all the "Darkness" sounds from the game The Darkness.
He makes movies, although bizarre ones.
This is a man living to his full potential. Not for money, not for fans, but for himself. It's why he's still fairly unknown, even though he's a top-selling artist. He never caters to the biz or publicity, just makes stuff and creates.

This is by far their best song in my opinion. The message is powerful, for me it is about the things in life that makes you feel alive and that the life is worth living, I don't know for some people is drugs, sex, power, etc, things you seek in life, and the song is about that feeling of fulfulment that is like a drug and you want more.
There is an example in the song about "growing a life within a life", there is no experience like giving life to another being, etc. And the end of the song is the most beautiful part of the lyrics, he gives examples of things in life that gives you that kind of feeling like remembering your chilhood good memories, following love guidance or being on the verge of death

My interpretation is it's just that: It's about the real thing! Which can be any number of experiences in life. And Mike even lays it out :
"like the echoes of your childhood laughter, like the first time love urged you to take its guidance, like your heartbeat when you realize you're dying, like the way you cry for a happy ending, I know the feeling, it is the real thing. I know, I know."
The verses are describing the emotions that come with those experiences which as you mentioned, could include drugs. But I think if it was specifically only about drugs, there would have been more direct references imo and less general visualizations that Mike painted.

The constant rhythm interspersed with the bass (damn, that bass!) and the and the slide use on the bass, with the guitar and drums keeping it all together. The drummer is one of the best in the business, no lie, he is clinical, yet expressive. Combining it all together, woth the lyrics... and you have a phenomenal song, one of the best I have ever heard in my life. FNM are crazy fantastic, with how they fuse genres.

I kind of think this song is about peak experience, whatever that might be for an individual. I think the drug imagery you’re seeing is there, I definitely think they’re using it as an analogy, and I think that’s a legit interpretation of this song. But think about all the people who have some other “drug” besides drugs... this peak experience could be love, drugs, religion, sex, power... whatever it is that is “the real thing” for a person. The feeling they spend their life chasing. Yeah, for a lot of people that’s drugs. But that feeling of “chasing the high” transcends drugs, and I think it speaks to something essential in the human condition.

Tardy to the party here, but my faith (hehe) in humanity grows when I see young folks checking out below the radar classics like this. That said, it's easy to conclude that the lyrics are about intoxication when you hear buzzwords like "dose", but it hits me more like the sense you get in meditation when you perceive infinity and eternity and your microscopic place within it, and the paradox of how this can make you feel infinite and eternal at the same time. I'm very surprised that you chose to react to this track but it makes me wanna make you wanna check out more Faith No More. My second favorite band of all times... Lateralus by TOOL is the bestest song of all time but this comes in a close second. Seriously, goddamnit. Fucked up thing is... This song came out about ten years BEFORE Lateralus. Which means... Good God, I'm old!

This is my favorite FNM song as well, it's just so strong in every aspect from the instrumentation to the lyrics. You should check out RV or Evidence for some FNM songs with a more ballad/lounge vibe and if you want to give Mr. Bungle another shot you should listen to The Girls of Porn, I think you'll like it better than the other Mr bungle tracks you heard already.

If a band isn't good live then they're not good.Live is the best shows what they bring

Are you saying they aren’t good live? Why would you bring that up in the context of a studio version of their song?
Anyway, FNM are one of the most consistently great live bands I’ve ever heard.

@@YuYu-ci4qm and sometimes a singer doesn't sound as good on a song live because it comes at the end of a taxing show where their voice is just tired..
Or in the case of a guy like darroh sudderth of Fair to Midland, he did shows sick, sometimes a bit drunk, & sometimes he's busy running & climbing lighting trusses & jumping back down to the stage, & other antics. Some bands are committed to a show involving more than just replicating what was recorded in a studio...so they may change songs & they throw in some onstage antics to keep themselves from getting bored from performing the same songs 8 or more months out of the year while traveling & getting sick of your bandmates. I honestly wonder how bands survive more than 1 or 2 tours together.

So I'm sitting here watching Prince videos, again, when I see a song on the playlist, from, "Purple Rain." It would be a great movie for a reaction.
Also, the thought that led to that, was this; "Batman," 1989." The best Batman/Joker movie, in my opinion. So why would thinking about Batman lead to Prince. Because he did the soundtrack for the movie.

I forgot to put the link to, Detroit Rock City, in my post about movie reactions, lol.

I also included a preview trailer for, Stop Making Sense.
    th-cam.com/video/urQRe4uEJe4/w-d-xo.html
It was made to be a movie, same as Prince's, Sign O' The Times. Prince is never, or rarely mentioned on anyone's list of best guitar player's, of all time, but he's on mine, because he makes a guitar sing like nobody else. The coolest part might be when he says, "Back up off the mics, children." He is too cool. Anyways, enjoy.
