    You are the best ma. You explained in a very good way. You didn't also add anything outside the standards of the topic thereby making it to be used on its own even without using one's lecturer materials often. God bless you.

    I watched the full lecture. All the important mechanisms were explained in short but comprehensive manner. Your voice is too gentle and not boring like other teachers who are using these stuffs to teach.
    I’m planning to revise my physiology course with your beautiful lectures just some days before my exam.

    Can you take a few minutes and try to answer my question: If a person wants to throw a football, that person will grip the ball and then bend his right (or left) arm, bend the arm backwards, and finally release and throw the ball. the bending action is supposed to accumulate power for the throw. Can you explain this in the same kind of language you used to explain how muscles work?

    More than once, you said that >1 ATP is needed per cycle. But isn't only 1 required? Even your diagram at 33:20 shows only 1 ATP as input.

    • @PhysiologyforStudents
      @PhysiologyforStudents  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi DNAunion - this is a bit of a definition issue. Technically for one contraction, the myosin head is prepared in the prior step by a fresh ATP hydrolysis- this 1 then is "used" during the cycle. A second ATP then must come in to reset the myosin head for the muscle to relax and reset. So its 1-2 depending on how you define it. Ask your instructor his/her preference.

    wow, thanks a lot because l had the concepts over nights without understanding them

  • @mmosqueira
    @mmosqueira 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for the nice and clear lecture. I have a small question. In the figure where you show the myosin pulling the action in one sarcomere (time 28:43), that also would happened in the adjacent sarcomeres (left and right). And since the left half sarcomere shown in the picture is atteched to the Z-line, the same holding the right half sarcomere of the left, so, how would then force produced if the left side of the sarcomere shown in the picture is pulling towards to the right, while the right half sarcomere of the left side is pulling to the left? Sorry if I wasn't clear with my question. Thank you in advance

    • @PhysiologyforStudents
      @PhysiologyforStudents  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question Matias! Try to picture all the sarcomeres getting "shorter" by moving inward toward the center. This makes the entire "fiber" shorter. An animation would be really helpful for you! Try this one at around 2:00:
