The reproduction is absolutely lovely. I also have it myself, but a lot of the times with reproductions, especially for silk stones, that some collectors forget they will slightly different due to the fact that the material is thicker especially in the face so it appear rounder/ fuller but over she is an amazing doll.
Thank you for your honest review! Now I don't feel bad about deciding to skip this reproduction doll. I have an original of the outfit and I so want to acquire an original ponytail swirl doll. Great review!
I bought her too and love her! I don’t have an original 60’s Swirl doll but think that Mattel did an exceptional job on this Silkstone Repro - especially for the price. The facial screening is gorgeous and the outfit is so chic. I only wish I’d bought a second one!
❤❤❤ Thanks for this unboxing video. This Barbie is so beautiful. I think the silkstone repro are the best. I have the silkstone Barbie and Ken repro, but I was not able to get the Midge, Allan and Skipper ones. In 2009 to celebrate Barbie 50th anniversary an Italian dolls collector organized a Barbie exhibition in Naples and it was so nice to see a lot of original vintage Barbie. There was also one wearing the Black Magic ensemble. ❤❤❤
So I love the original Barbie’s! The vintage face is my FAVORITE face for Barbie. I grew up in the 90s but still 59-60s Barbie face is just the peak for me! I’ll also say, and I know this is polarizing for some collectors, but because of how the actual vintage ones age I almost exclusively collect the reproductions that started in the 90s and on. simply because of the hair and how the plastic holds up! I did get this doll and I LOVE her but I do think the other swirl ponytail reproduction dolls that came before her are superior. My favorite is the knitting pretty set that came with skipper😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks for the comparison between the two Barbies. My Silkstone just arrived today (in England) and I'm very happy. I'll also be taking her out of the box 🩷🩷🩷
Congratulations! I ordered her and just shared my own video unboxing and review on her. I love her! I didn't let myself watch any videos on her until I had shared my review. Now, I can enjoy seeing what others think about her. Great review. Good point on ever tying that bow again. I love the reproductions.
I had recently found three original swirl ponytail Barbies. They all came from original owners each, I kept a redhead and a lemon blonde but gave my sister the more ash blonde coral lipstick doll, she was very cranky I found the two I did, it was lucky I found one more as fast as I did and saved her to pass along on Christmas that year.
I can't wait to receive her soon! And I definitely agree with you about reproductions, I typically do not purchase them but the outfit on this one convinced me! ❤
Completely stunning, I just got the reproduction. As someone who doesn’t have the vintage originals I’m really happy with the new one. Absolutely agree there’s nothing like the vintage ones!
I bought two of the reproduction platinum swirls & am very happy with them as well as the earlier releases of reproduction swirls. In my opinion you can never get a 100% exact match on a reproduction doll . I have an extensive collection of at least one example of everything Barbie from 1959 through the early 80s. I like the repros for what they are, Thank you for your content . Cheers Matt Sky
Congratulations - she is quite a beautiful doll. While patiently waiting for mine to arrive I very much enjoy your comparrison. Since I have the original ensemble on a lemon swirl I most probably keep the reproduction in the box. I bought her purely out of a feeling of nostaliga. The vintage repros got me started in a time when it was more difficult to purchase vintage dolls so the repros hold a certain emotional value though I prefer vintage. Thanks for the review.
this is my first fancy Barbie and I have to say I'm hooked. I haven't been a Barbie collector in the past, but the past couple of releases have been really beautiful. Agree with you about the hair on this particular doll. Thanks for your overview and history included on this swirled ponytail Barbie. One thing I wish they would've done is put a small loop of elastic or something on the bag so she could hold it as shown in the ad photo. There's no way that her gloved hand is going to hold that clutch without some kind of assistance. If anyone has a tip or hint about how they work this out, it would be appreciated. It's a small thing and I'm happy I purchased her. Unfortunately for my pocketbook, but fortunately for pure enjoyment, I see more Barbies in my future.
Loved your review and comparison to the vintage Barbie. IMO they shouldn’t call it a “reproduction” but a tribute doll. I also feel like maybe it’s on purpose to not make the new dolls 100% identical to the original ones to keep the integrity of the vintage ones.
I am getting the repro Swirl, and the first thing I'm going to do is steal her fashion for a vintage doll and restyle the repro doll's hair to look more like an authentic Swirl. I have never liked the high pony style that they keep doing on these repro Swirls, I don't know why they do that. I am sure I will like the doll for it's own merits, and I'll make her hair look good, but I don't really think of these repros as being in the same category as the vintage originals. I usually separate the repro outfits from the dolls and then redress the dolls in handmade fashions that I have made or that my sewist friends have made. I think you get the best of both worlds that way, lovely fashions for vintage dolls, and lovely dolls for one-of-a-kind fashions.
so wonderful love this
thats a nice outfit . i think I,ll sew one for my girl

Very great point. Completely different material and probably a much more modern technique for how the paint is applied now.
Thank you for your honest review! Now I don't feel bad about deciding to skip this reproduction doll. I have an original of the outfit and I so want to acquire an original ponytail swirl doll. Great review!
This outfit is a reproduction of the original in Mrs Handler's own wardrobe which she loved.

I agree , many of us are very happy with platinum swirl repro !

Thanks for watching! So glad you love yours! It's nice of Mattel to make these repro dolls.

Wow, what a great find! They’re such beautiful Barbies.

The quality of the outfit is fantastic!

Very pretty 😍
Congrats for owning an original and repro Black Magic! I skipped this reproduction unfortunately, but luckily I do own a original Swirl Ponytail
The originals are the best! Thanks for watching :)

You do have the correct original gloves.

Good point!
I agree on this.
how did you know . I have been looking at her the whole time
🤗😍🖤🎈♥️♥️♥️
i have a reproduced swirl ponytail and her hair desperately needs to be redone, but i am SO intimidated. Lol
The Swirl Ponytail is a tricky one!
