You mentioned using a blender to get the weathering chalk finer. That works for all types of things in modeling. Like grinding tree leaves for forest scenery. But for smaller scales when you need super fine stuff a coffee bean grinder is the best. It will powder just about anything that is dry. Not rocks but most everything else.
Man that 2Bay hopper car turned out awesome! I like your method of weathering especially using Artist Chalks! When you were adding the Chalk mixture to the Hatches etc, they probably thought omg that car is ruined lol. I knew it wasn't but definitely wanted to see the steps you took to bring it all together! You use just about the same methods I did years ago. The only thing different is I would lightly mist the entire surface with aqua net hair spray when I got it finished. Nice job....

Love the technique but my wife and I couldn't watch the video due to speeding up the video while the camera is moving, literally unwatchable and made us have to step away. As a videographer, if you do fast motion keep the camera still on a tripod and even then use it very sparingly. It's better to just show real time and then cut to the future area real time again rather than shaky fast motion for that long, it's smoother, easier to watch and we know it's a cut to a later time. I say this with all the best of intentions, as for your teaching and methods, top notch and I subscribed and look forward to more videos.

Jeff P I've tried the Lowes and Home Depot down on the floor cheap rattle cans and they work great. But I can't find any other color but but flat black 🤷♂️
So many of these modal railroad video's are great with there scenery. But the trains are so plastic looking. A bit of weathering on the trains and cars makes the whole thing pop!

Very cool... Try some black coffee wash, when dry it leaves that oily black rust sheen you see in the wrecking yard... allways great vidio s...

I noticed that the mart stopped carrying it a while ago. Lowes had some last time I was there. Might not be that $buck a can, but close enough.
Lowe's has a no-name flat black that's 99 cents a can...they bury it along the floor so they can sell you those $7 cans at eye level...
