Walter Hawkins and Twinkie were geniuses and way ahead of their time. I really used to hear these songs on the radio with regular slow jams as a child! Especially you brought the sunshine and be grateful!
That smile shared by Lynette, Dorinda, and Shirley (Caesar) while Twinkie sang at the end. I’m sure they were all thinking what we think as we watch this video. I wish I could’ve experienced this concert in person. All that talent and anointing on one stage, wow. 🥰
The Clarke sisters also joined Joe Ligon and Shirley Ceasar at the end. Absolutely beautiful. Inspired and gifted that's what Walter was. Sure do miss him but his music lives on!!!
Wow! It was the style of gospel music the Hawkins introduced to the world I believe in 1966 with there first album, "Joy, Joy", that inspired me to learn the piano and organ. Such a tremendous inspiration to me over the years. Now I'm Director of Music of one of the top choirs in VA. Rest in Peace Bishop Walter Hawkins.
If only I could of lived at this time among the greatest people of faith. I was born but I live now when no one has faith! Praise be to God 🙏💫 always and forever,! I'm going away soon!
This brings back childhood memories. I grew up on gospel music and moments like this. May God continue to bless the Hawkins family and all of you who are apart of this great heritage known as Gospel Music!
The amazing thing is...he sounded as good during his last few days as he did in the beginning! Simply awesome. I'm thankful I was old enough to enjoy, be blessed, and appreciate the beginning to the end; and still currently be blessed by his music.
his PHENOMENAL & ANOINTED impact on gospel and its listeners will be missed!!! Praying for the Hawkins family that GOD WILL wipe away every tear, and HEAL your broken hearts!
Bishop Walter Hawkins i thank God for your gift and ministry. Your beautiful voice and message was of the love of God, His grace and salvation and mercy. you have fight the good fight of faith and you have finish your race surely there's a crown of life waiting for you my brother. you will be missed, but i know that you're singing 'round God's throne. may you R.I.P. love and peace forever. peace out.
Never thought Bishop Walter Hawkins would "Go Away" SO soon...RIP & prayers are offered to your Family at this time...GREAT clip here of an omitted song from the film GOSPEL from the early 1980's...
I rememeber going to church on my own in jr. high & enjoyed it. Back then in the 70's the Hawkins family was the sound. Since i back slid & hear what they call gospel is a big gap for me. I missed that era of gospel, & i struggle to come back to God. But i'm so glad he's on my mind & heart now. I wish i could hear from God, & i will strive to hear his voice.
Those pink dresses and his hair make me smile...haha...the time period is clearly evident in this video. I know you are Resting in Love Bishop Walter Hawkins thank for sharing you God given and Divine talent...:-)
this man was a genius..Im so thankful for the impact he had on gospel music. He is mow in the arms of Jesus just like he proclaimed in this phenomonal song. May he rest in peace.
man what sentiment, i remember those days like it was yesterday. i knew many of these people personally back then i am contemporary with them. those were the good old. sherly ceaser in many ways seems to age backwards. i remember she looked like a grandma back then now shes well different. young people enjoy your youth and one another in it hold on to it as long as you can. apostle e.w. wilcots once told me the same thing one day you will wake up and that magic will be gone you will just be old!
Bishop Walter has left so much rich music for us. He now is where he sang so much about going..God Bless Him. I miss him already..I am saddened, but yet I know he is happy where he is. I will see him one day !
These wonderful GOSPEL artist were in there prime before the Lord. FANTASTIC! I emphasized GOSPEL because our society keeps REdefining Gospel, by calling it inspirational, motivational, we are almost combined with R&B (sad) our Sweet Savior is being moved to the back burner more and more.
I play this CD almost every morning and have for about a year, now. Never get tired of it and his other music. One of God's choir directors. How blessed we are to have the experience. Something to look forward to.
I love the vamp ( special part ending ) on this song they could have done that even longer great spiritual song. Walter has always and will continue to be one of my favorite artist. Thanxs for posting this.

I love this song and I think that it is hilarious that Walter Hawkins left after he gave Twinkie the mike. She was looking for him and he was moving around in the back of the people seemed like he was doing on purpose.
