When Kim McLarin states that her students, some of which had never heard of James Baldwin, learn of him that can't get enough of him...yeah, that's me right now and I'm a 47 year old white man. It's a travesty that at my age I'm just learning about him because our school systems are so white-washed especially for American History. I'm actually pretty upset about this. I feel robbed of so much wisdom! And now I'm finding it impossible to watch this documentary online. You have to buy the DVD. Ugh!
Much better than I Am Not Your Negro, is the full (90-minute) documentary they're discussing, available for rental on Vimeo on Demand. It's called "James Baldwin: the price of the ticket." It was completed and shown on the PBS series American Masters and truly, should not be missed.
What an absolute gift James Baldwin was and will always be to the world!! God Bless You James Baldwin!! Thank You For All The Gifts You Have Left For Us!! Thank You❤️❤️🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This was an amazing panel! I turned my friend onto Another Country a couple of months ago. Ironically, Aisha is my second cousin- our Dads are first cousins.
People must encourage the children to read learning is power. James Baldwin is about education teaching the child about self worth freedom independence and thus self confidence
A black existentialist? That's interesting. I tend to think of Ralph Ellison (INVISIBLE MAN) and later Richard Wright ( OUTSIDER) as existentialists. James Baldwin as existentialist? Hmmm....maybe.
There is a yt video channel called, LionofJudah & when I commented about James Balwin's contributions the man who created the yt channel , who happens to be black spoke in derogatory terms of Mr. Balwin. He discounted him, because Mr. Baldwin was homosexual. I told him that he is arrogant & his ignorance is distrubing. He also said his channel was for men not liberal women. Unfortunately, People like to be hateful for any reason.
Correction: It was Chronicals of Judah Not Lion of Judah. Sorry for the mistake. It was shitty to discount Mr. Baldwin's contributions just because he was a gay man.
Great talk and fantastic subject. Are there any more details JFK Library can share about the panelists? Names, credentials..etc. I picked up Kim McLarin and Karen Thorsen but the rest of the panel don't get formerly introduced and it would be greatly appreciated if info could be shared in the video description. Thanks
@@acchaladka unfortunately not. I couldn't find a way to watch it at the time and it slipped my mind since then. I most definitely have a look at its availability today. I must thank you for this reminder 😊

Agreed. He was presented to me in college, but it has not been until later in my life that I have found more time, read more and loved more.

Makes no sense for a slave master to have destroyed his/her property as that would have decreased their assests and value of the slave.
