I definitely agree that Wild Life and Secret life are a bit more gimmicky, but i think that that is a good thing. the first 4 seasons were great, but if we kept going with simpler things it would start to feel repetitive. Grian said on the Imp and Skizz podcast that it was about experiencing a new thing each season, which is great. And also while wild life didn't have many concrete rules, no season ever has. It was apparent after just a few episodes in 3rd life that the only reds can attack rule and the losing alliances when you turn red thing didn't work, and so that was less of a thing in later seasons. Great video though!
well, do you have any BETTER idea's for a life series? like i know how these new seasons seem alot different, but like, thatts kinda a point, they need to be unique but add a twist that isnt only fun for the viewers to watch, but actually fun for the creators too
I want people to keep in mind that these newer seasons can be correlated to the reality TV show of Survivor. A GREAT majority of the community genuinely misses the simpllicity of the older seasons with a heavy focus on wanting the players to be the reason why a season is great, rather than twists or gimmicks being the reason why it's ever interesting. There's *so* much focus on the special twist of the episodes that it effectively takes away the freedom that the players are meant to have in order to make the season special. While yes, it is the same group of people everytime, I still think Grian should give the participating members a chance to develop a new story of conflict and "war". Social relationships, how the players interact with a limited resourced world, and ACTUAL tension and severity of red lifes and losing items due to no keep inventory are what made Third Life and Last Life so great and intense. Simplicity shouldn't be a deterrent, a show like Survivor has had FORTY SEVEN seasons and still going with the exact same concept, much of the beginning 20 or so being the exact same format, with little changes, but none that would compromise the format. I think there's definitely ways to switch up the core aspect of the seasons (Red, Yellow, Green Lives) without having the need to bring in a *twist* to make it unqiue.
True, but 6 seasons of "simplicity" will definitely get boring to watch over time. So, gimmicky ones like secret/wild life are much appreciated . Although I would also like see a simpler one in the future
I doubt that the complexity of the twists is the real problem of the latest seasons. I would love to see such complex twists and gimmicks in a more classic life season. Double life, Limited life and Real life already had fun twists without ruining the classic concepts. The problem is mostly in the "twist of the week" approach that has two massive consequences: Firstly, players have less time and less reasons to create their own stories, as they are preoccupied with their twists, leading to random interactions and less long-term storylines. Secondly, "twist of the week" destroys the pacing of the season, as it determines the intensity of the episodes. As a result, new seasons end up having less player-driven storylines and more PvE minigame style survival, where everything depends on the twist. There is nothing wrong with a gimmicky season, as long as the twist is actually a twist, something affecting the rules. The season would still have a classic feel if the twist is known from the start, affects players equally and is not forcing players to focus on the twist for the majority of each episode.
@@CatCreamYT I think the difference is that they know how to play now. Even if they did just 3rd life again it wouldn’t be the same because they know what to do.
@@vladko312 Grian already talked abt this in imp and skizz podcast. The only thing that matters in how a life series would turn out is that the participants are enjoying it. If they don't then grian will change it. Which also resulted in rules like keeping inventory after death and nerfed enchantments. The people involved didn't want to repeat similar type of concept. So, grian had to keep changing, whether we like it or not.
I agree with almost every point in this video but I do feel like the size wild card wasn’t that game changing because it was the first episode and they don’t want a murderous snail or for everyone to become the avengers on a brand new world and the time one was probably to cool off from the snail in the previous episode (although while watching the time episode I did forget this was wild life and not a hermit craft or something so that’s probably not good when every episode is supposed to be game changing) but overall I really loved this season and if we take when the seasons were released out the picture and pretend they were all released at the same time I think third life would be the weakest of the bunch because it was the most basic but because it was the first season it works incredibly well. Also this season can basically be summed up by a quote from Scott saying that “they are too used to the wild cards giving them free content” or something along the lines of that which isn’t a bad thing because you can’t expect them to make really good content over 6 seasons of the same format so they change things up every season but it did feel like the wild cards where the only thing different from hermit craft unlike with the other seasons having either the boogie man, team rivals, and story lines (like monopoly mountain and pizza, the heart foundation, things like that) among other twists but this season everyone was just teamed with everyone with no stakes of betrayal until near the end and one reason for that I think is that the first 2 seasons only like 6 months apart, 3 and 4 were only about 6 months apart again but 5 and 6 were a year apart and in that time everyone did non PvP long term servers so the essence of the high stakes was forgotten over the year brake (for example there were actual builds this time instead of bread bridges and random towers, and no rivals, allies, or factions) but that’s just my take on the season and I’d rate it an 8/10 Edit: one thing I forgot to say is that for 3rd life I didn’t feel the need to watch every POV because the story of the episode was complete with just a few different POVs (I still watched all of them but it got repetitive after seeing the same story unfold) but with last life and the boogie man there was a need to watch almost all of POVs to see the story of the episode and the boogie man (same with limited life) but then secret life and wild life I felt the need to watch every POV because each person had a completely different story wether it was what food different people ate, how their snails got them or what super powers they had every POV was different (and obviously secret life everyone had different tasks to do)
In my opinion, I feel like the only thing I dislike about the newer life series is keep inventory, it makes it feel a little less intense sometimes. In Limited Life it felt necessary but for Secret Life and Wild Life it felt a little silly. But I genuinely liked the new series. If I were to rank them from best to worst this would probably be the order: 1. Secret Life 2. Wild Life 3. Limited Life 4. Double Life 5. Last Life 6. 3rd Life Btw I'm not saying 3rd Life is bad or anything, I still think 3rd Life was a 10/10 series, I just prefer each one a little more. To me each season usually gets better, except for the newest one not being quite as good as Secret Life. I feel like it still fits the concept well. I had an idea for a life series that might have a sort of similar premise to Limited Life; Border Life - Everyone has a 1000x1000 World border at the start. 725-1000 is Green, 425-700 is Yellow, 25-400 is Red. If you are yellow you can kill Greens and Reds kill anyone. You get +25 blocks if you kill someone and you lose -50 Blocks if you die. There could also be a Boogeyman. If you kill as the Boogeyman you get +50 Blocks and if you die to the Boogeyman you lose -100 Blocks. The only issue with this idea is: How will Yellows get kills on Greens or Reds on Yellows, etc... when the players above them could just walk away further into the border which they don't have access to? Well I thought maybe some kind of item or session event could change this, where every 40 minutes or 30 minutes or so, everyone's border will be expanding to the maximum size (the player with the largest border's size) and they could get kills then for about 20 minutes. Or if it was an item, that specific person could expand their border for about 10 minutes or so. I think it'd be a great edition to the Life Series but the chance of Grian thinking of this is, well, almost impossible.
Firstly, I agree that keep inventory is probably the worst part of the new seasons. Second, that is a really good idea! It might need a little tweaking to sort out the problem you mentioned, but that is something I would love to see.
i actually believe that secret life was really really good for content/engagement because we had to go and check other people's videos to know what was truly going on. wild life... wasn't great. it was funny, but the focus was more on the wildcards than the actions of players. grian did a great job it just wasn't a great concept.
i agree, i really like secret life actually because everyone is being so weird all the time! Wild Life though? I enjoyed it, it was fun, but I think I'd have liked to go back to one of the more classic seasons. Maybe that's bad for the approach they're going for now where every season has to have a thing but idk. This season just kinda felt like there wasn't a real reason to team up with each other because the wild cards were just gonna get them anyway
For me the life series is about the players and their choices, I don’t want it to be about them dealing with a random gimmick that creates its own storyline that ultimately goes nowhere
I completely agree with this, not because its “gimmicky” all of them but 3rd and last life are, but because the gimmicks vary episode to episode, with this and secret life. The twists would previously shape the entire series, but leave a lot of room for roleplay, survival, storytelling, etc. In the new ones, the twists shape episodes, which not only makes the povs more similar (for wild life exclusively) but also essentially slows down the series because people arent focusing as much on kills and instead on secret objectives or adapting to a twist. You can see this in both series having an episode which really just served to thin the life count (snails/boogie curse). This is seen pretty clearly in wild life especially, as there were very few player kills for each player having 6 lives. Maybe a quater of kills were from players? Like the finale really only got started when someone died to a wildcard. I didn’t feel this as much with secret life because everyones objectives were unique and there were some solid teams (also the secret life finale was peak, but honestly thats probably because they took away the objectives for it). TLDR; the newer series feel worse because they both rely on episode to episode gimmicks instead of twists that shape the whole series, which causes them to be slower and less lethal as players arent looking to kill
It feels like people have lost sight of the fact that the actual goal is to kill everyone and be the last one standing. And that that means having the best gear, and the best game knowledge, and helpful teammates that you can trust, and that that’s what most people want to watch
0:34 I fully agree with this! I love the last 2 seasons and all, but they feel vastly different in concept and style than the original seasons, they feel a lot more gimmicky
2:11 the size one was session 1, we can't have an intense one, so just simple and basic, and for funs, while the time stop was to make it feel bit intense and hard, and easier after the session 2-3 wild cards
Just me who thinks it’s the best?! 😂 Personally I think 3rd life and last life were the worst (I still think they’re great) but I know that’s an unpopular opinion. I definitely see where you’re coming from tho - I wasn’t really a fan of secret life bc it kinda made the whole tasks thing the focus of the game but I guess wild life has a special place in my heart bc of joel winning.
