@Mark Green Right, but it's more than gas leaking out. It's high-pressure gas and flame leaking out from the flash gap. After many rounds, the flash gap will increase and the gun will not be safe to shoot without closing the flash gap.

I have the 7.5" 460 (not many places where I live where you're gonna need 100+ yards of range.) I took it to an indoor range not too far from where I live, I was getting some looks each time it spit out that jet of flame, oh and the pieces of styrofoam insulation they had on the dividers were coming apart with each shot. The 460 is truly a pleasure to shoot, if only ammo wasn't so pricey for it.
.460 is sort of a clown cartridge. It's rifle length but they call it a revolver cartridge. Sure. .45-70 is also a revolver cartridge in a BFR. Hahaha .454 Casull is about the limit on useful sized, compact-enough cartridges that will penetrate 5 feet through a cape buffalo with the right bullet and load. If you want rifle performance, use a rifle. To get .45-70 sort of power from a .460 the pressure has to be ridiculous and the revolver has to be massive and heavy. Ruger Super Redhawk is at least somewhat manageable. A .45-70 operates a much less wild pressures and spits very heavy slugs. Need 250 fps more? Winchester still makes .45-90 brand new in 1886 levers.
@@exothermal.sprocket The .454 is actually more powerful than the .45-70 in a handgun because the .45-70 uses powder that burns too slowly if you use factory loads and most of it gets ejected from the muzzle unburned. You have to handload the .45-70 for it to be any good in a handgun. In fact, the .454 is faster than the .45-70 (with 350-grain bullets) from a 16- to 18-inch carbine as well, but that's only for the "standard" (low) pressure .45-70 loads. The .460 blows the .45-70 away in any barrel length. But as you said, a cartridge that powerful in a handgun is silly when a .454 will take any animal that walks the Earth today. The .460 was designed to be a _long-range_ hunting revolver cartridge. With pointed bullets, it will humanely drop deer out to 250 yards. Why you need a _revolver_ for that is beyond me, though, since you can get a T/C Contender or Encore that shoots rifle cartridges to do the same thing, and it's not like you're going to get a follow-up shot on a deer at that range, so being a repeater is pretty pointless and just a lot of extra length and weight.

She is missing her left thumb from the knuckle out. But she gets an automatic 10% off when getting her nails done! I’ll post a pic of her thumb when she lets me take a picture of it!
It was really interesting to see the ... cylinder flash...? On the slomo of the 5 rounds in each caliber. You can definitely see a difference between the 3 as well as why not to put your hand up on the side.
LOL, I was also interested in the cylinder flash. I went frame-by-frame on the shots that had one, and I noticed something interesting. On the first four 460 slo-mo shots, you can see a very large burst of fire that does not seem to be coming from the cylinder gap. The actual cylinder flash from shot #5 was very small by comparison.
@@obsoletevalues6209 That's just due to the camera's shutter speed not being fast enough. We only get 1 frame of the flash so we don't get all of it. We'd need to be much slower to get the whole flash and I'd wager it'd look very similar from shot to shot of the same caliber.
I wonder if a sealing cylinder like the nagant revolver has would help with accuracy (the straight walled, sunk bullet ammunition had alot to do with the cylinder sealing)
Forgotten Weapons not only covered that, but Ian also got to interview an actual GIGN operator, _plus_ visited the factory where the MR73 revolvers are still being made ... @@exothermal.sprocket that is indeed a great revolver, don't get me wrong. However, the great thing about the S&W .460 Magnum is that it's basically a tri-caliber revolver, due to the gun taking .45 Long Colt, .454 Casull, and .460 Magnum cartridges, as opposed to the Ruger Super Redhawks taking only 2 calibers (.45 Colt/.454 Casull)
@@DrQuagmire1 That's great. Except it weighs 1.25 lb more, holds 1 less round, is a lot bigger, all to just shoot the .460. The Super Redhawk fires .45 Schofield, .45 Colt, and .454 Casull. Who wants to fire .45 Colt loads through a 5 shot 72oz revolver? Hahaha
All the guntubers get the .500 because it's "the biggest," but the .460 is MUCH more practical. It's the only repeating pistol that can take deer-sized game humanely at 250 yards. Add the .454 and .45 capability and you have a much more versatile handgun. Not that it's _actually_ practical, mind you, since it's heavier than a light _rifle,_ but it's still more practical than the .500.
@@DeSousausmc depends on what your using for hunting, no I love mine 2'' groups at 200 yards. Shot an antelope at 209 yds.For bear defense then yes shorter barrel
Well, for me, I want them all. However, with the 460, I just thought the 14" was too outrageous not to buy, and being that velocity is its strong point, I wanted to maximize that while staying with an S&W revolver. To this point, I have seen conflicting information in velocity testing between a 12" and what I have (14" with muzzlebrake). I will say that it is very heavy, and will be difficult to shoot off-hand. It's not very practical for quick access. Do I wish I bought a 500? At this point, I'm glad I have what I have and intend to continue my collection one day. As far as the versatility, I think that's up to the user. .45 LC is fairly available, but it's not all that cheap. So, while I do enjoy shooting it to show off the differences, I find that I'd rather just go ahead and buy the 460 cartridges that I want. There is some versatility to be found in many of these platforms. For 500 you have 500 magnum, 500 JRH, 500 special (supposedly), etc. With a 500 Bushwacker you get that cartridge, plus the ones listed above. You can even find multiple cartridge options for a .510 caliber like 50 Alaskan and 50-110. So, while versatility sounded cool and was good marketing with well known cartridges, it's nothing crazy. Though that's what originally sold me on it, and still a fun feature.

I was fortunate enough to find a Dan Wesson .357 with a 12 inch barrel back in 1988. Wood 'cowboy' gun grips and an interchangeable 4 inch barrel too. I added a scope to the 12 inch barrel and totally enjoy what it can do from long range. Thousands of rounds later, and still enjoy it. No bipod, just use sandbags to steady it.

Hahaha
My 14" 460 is one of my absolute favorites, but there's not a ton of content on it out there. This video is much appreciated.
Do you ever wish you’d gone with a shorter barrel? I’m 460 shopping and can’t decide on barrel length
All the guntubers get the .500 because it's "the biggest," but the .460 is MUCH more practical. It's the only repeating pistol that can take deer-sized game humanely at 250 yards. Add the .454 and .45 capability and you have a much more versatile handgun.
Not that it's _actually_ practical, mind you, since it's heavier than a light _rifle,_ but it's still more practical than the .500.
.460 pretty versatile and probably good medicine for Brown bears but with a shorter barrel so one could clear leather faster.
I gotta hand it to Scott. His videos are informative, hilarious and clever...but most of all fun! This one is particularly entertaining. Editing, pace, timing and content are all flawless! I love this channel so much!
I'm always impressed with how good of a shot Scott is. 👏 I thought that table was going to stop that poor Silverado in its tracks.
I loved its battlecry as it charged toward the table.
Those slowmotion flashes of the 460 are insane

My youngest son, he's 8, is a very big fan of yours Scott. He's says "he's so tuff". He commented on this video saying "1st" and you hearted it and commented. I just want you to know you absolutely made his week with that. He is so proud that you liked his comment. You're pretty awesome man.
Scott has the best slo-mo’s around 👍🏻
What a hand cannon 😮
Scott: *slowly pulling double action trigger*
Also Scott: “…mmmmMaximum effort.”
Serious upgrade in quality of video, the shots were captivating, transitions were better, and I loved the little touches everywhere ... Really nice job Scott 👍( not that you were lacking anything to begin with ) Can't put my finger on what changed, but totally on the right track. Look out Demo, Kentucky just took it up a notch! 🤪
Always a good day when Scott brings out the X-Frames :)
YO THE OFFICIAL SMITH & WESSON ????
That .45 ACP round was like a .22 long out of that firearm. Quiet and soft shooting.
Thanks for sharing this.
45 long colt
4:10 most relatable thing about this video.
Gotta love the vids scott!! Im currently in the ER waiting for my cat scan for my apendix. your videos are a great thing to watch while waiting! Keep it up!
Good luck. Hopefully you get to feeling better. Or they remove it
@@frugalsoul9984 Thanks! I just got my cat scan done so hopefully Im okay
Scott great video as usual! I gotta say as someone who just went through achilles tendon surgery, that jump off the tailgate made me twinge. Keep up the good content!
Jerry Miculek with his upside down, 9mm, freehand 1,000 yard shot: "That's cute."
🤣 These are my kinds of videos. Love it!
Scott I will have to say you have the best intros on TH-cam. I always look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
I’d definitely like to see some more accuracy at range videos, maybe show us which guns / rounds are best for precision over distance
??? It's called bullet coefficient.
The grunt noise he made while getting on the tuck 😂 maximum effort 😂😂1:57
I thought everyone knew the reason Scott shoots so close is because gross foods have a limited splash range, and he needs to be in it!
The slo-mo 460 recoil test was awesome! Seeing those huge fireballs lmaoo
It’s amazing how Scott treats these tables with respect and dignity. 😆
You can definitely tell the difference in bullet speed from the time to target.
The slo-mo footage is, as always, some of the best you'd ever hope to see. Great job~!
I gotta say that out of all the gun-tubers I watch, you're the funniest and most expressive that I watch. Keep being the goof you are Scott
I’ve wanted one of those .460’s for a while! Be a neat thing to take up into the treestand now and again
I got to say you are a great shot brother!! Absolutely love your videos makes my day so much better
I bought the 8" revolver back in 2009 cause of the versatility of the gun with 45 Schof, 45LC, 454Cas,& 460. My kids learn to shoot it using the 45s from the bench. I coworker goes handgun hunting with his. He took two 130" whitetail in back to back hunting seasons at 180 yards with a Red Dot.
Scott’s distain for picnic tables will never get old 😂
Not only folding tables, but pretty much any vehicle, eggplant, kids toys, or watermelon. Love every second of it.
@@klarik01 Cant forget about grey poupon
Man that cylinder flash is wicked might blow a finger clean off
I'm so glad you are still with us. My shirt is coming in today. Don't flinch
So “long distance” means taking two whole shots at 100 yards…incredible haha! Great content as always, much love from Texas!
Jerry Miculek is like "Hey. you forgot one zero."
Elmer Keith fired at stuff over 500 yards free-hand. Haha
@@XtreeM_FaiL right! Haha
Howdy! Always happy to see fellow TX firearm enthusiasts!
@@texasrex2222 howdy!
Just watching the intro and seeing the Gun makes me excited for this video 😂
People at work look at me funny when I bust out laughing, for no apparent reason, when I watch Scott's videos.
The Dinosaur never gets old. Love the skits and live the content Scott
The dinosaur was old the first time I saw it...that's what makes it funny!
Just when I thought I had every type of gun I needed. This is now the next on my list!
The S&W 500 is even cooler, but not as fun to shoot if you like your palms
You should try shooting a punt gun (1 gauge shotgun)
Love your content Scott, I was getting tired I’m sure this will wake me up!
I really LOVE this TH-cam channel, I'm from Italy, truly congratulations for being able to entertain, amuse and interest your audience. Congratulations again and keep it up Scott, you're great
Always good to see a ridiculous handgun like this one!, I knew scott liked the long ones 😏
I really appreciate you taking the time to also teach some gun safety with these big wheel guns. Safety first.
I love how you can actually see the delay between shot and impact on the long range shots.
When I want to lighten up my day, This is where I come. Thanks Scott!!
2:24 2 shots and it went down thats very impressive also all your videos are awesome bro👍
He's the only guy big enough to hold it still. If I tried it, I'd end up in Cleveland.
As a fan of Jurassic Park toys and now that I’m a full grown adult who misses his old toys…it was heartbreaking seeing that T. rex get blasted lol
My car broke down this morning, I was late to work, and I forgot my lunch. But KB made me feel better about everything. Thanks.
revolvers are just cool. hands down.
im guilty of one of those comments and you hearted it so i feel bad but also good because now we get this beaut of a gun. you're a top man scott.
The .460 S&W magnum is an awesome round and what makes it even better the guns chambered in this cartridge are very versatile because you actually get 3 guns in one. I want one for my next Revolver it would make a great hunting rig.
Scott, you are very talented in the ancient art of table flipping. It's a shame that it hasn't been introduced in the Olympics yet :/ I'm 100% confident that you would be going home with a gold medal.
This is the revolver I’m saving up for! I love its size and versatility! Never shot a hand cannon like this before but clearly this a good way to learn to shoot one! Thanks for this informative video, very excited to get my hands on one!
That is a super cool revolver...the yellow grip sets it off!!! Fruit cake is gnarly...Thank You Sir!!!
I like the way the gun jumps off the table when you shoot it. Really shows the power
You've shown that the .460 Magnum revolver is a versatile gun being able to fire .454 Casull, 45LC and .460...pretty cool... the best of three worlds!
The flame coming from the cylinder on the 460 5 shot slow motion was surprising. The Jetsons pickup is amazing.
The sound effects are gold.
I REALLY like how that revolver handles the .45 Colt. Very little muzzle rise and it almost looks gentle compared to the other two calibers.
Love the videos and review of the 460. I ended up getting the 10.5" barrel, but absolutely love the versatility in the calibers.
Love my 460! Easily the favorite hand cannon I own. 100 yards is still a relatively close shot. I shoot C zone steel at 200 yards fairly easily. The 200gr loads are surprisingly flay to 200.
seeing your growth is great scott
The fireball coming from the cylinder and the muzzle brake is insane with the .460
That was the first time I didn't have to fast forward through the beginning of your videos. I thought it was really funny!
Creativity is objective. Nobody cares that I usually don't like the beginning of your videos. Overall I really like your videos! 🙂 🎯 🔫
imo the .460 is the best revolver ever made. better than .500 thanks Scott.😁😁🎄☃🎄
I had a TC Contender pistol in 45-70 government with a 14" barrel.. with a 2/8 power pistol scope..I shot at 200 yards.. it held a sub 2" groups .. I miss it
Hey Scott you should do bayonets on the zombie torso it would make a great video
Love those 3 clicks up, always fun, thanks
I was fortunate enough to find a Dan Wesson .357 with a 12 inch barrel back in 1988. Wood 'cowboy' gun grips and an interchangeable 4 inch barrel too. I added a scope to the 12 inch barrel and totally enjoy what it can do from long range. Thousands of rounds later, and still enjoy it. No bipod, just use sandbags to steady it.
i have 2, one is a s&w svr with the 5 inch barrel, and the other is a Taurus with the 8.75 inch barrel. my favorite guns
Spat my drink everywhere when you jumped of the back of the truck 😂😂😂
one of the best channels ive seen LOVE the guns scott keep up the good work!👏
The 460 S&W Magnum is my favorite pistol! It's also the fastest shooting pistol, the 460 has the fastest muzzle velocity of any handgun in the world!
Great video! Just a warning don’t shoot to many heavy 460 loads through it. X frames like to blow up eventually. We had three blow up at a range I worked at all factory ammo. Keep up the great vids!
Yeah, the longer range shots are MUCH MUCH more enjoyable to watch than all the close range and point blank crap.
I love all revolvers keep em coming
That little thing was taking that point blank shot like a real champ 😂
The T-Rex head floating in the air was hilarious
As much fun as watching the Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. Except you learn about gun safety, ballistics, and how guns function. Thanks for sharing!
I love this so much! Thank you for so much fun!
The intro 😂😂😂 the dinosaur running cracked me up
Awesome video Scott! Love the t-Rex, he’s so funny! Bring him out more! 😂
That intro nearly got me fired at work... "what in the world?!" 😂😂😂
Best part was running over the table😅
He should make a compilation video of him just wreaking tables like cactus jack lol
