This song "Killing Me Softly" won the Grammy awards for: "Record of the year", "Song of the year" and "Pop Female Vocal of the year" for Ms. Roberta Flack. It was written back in 1971 by composer Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimble.
It was first sung by Ms. Lori Lieberman in (1971) and failed to chart at all. And in 1973 Roberta Flack would take this song to international fame as the number one record in the UK, Canada and the USA.
This version by Perry Como also came out in 1973. Awesome!
Note: Perry Como was an international superstar back in the 40's, 50's 60's and 70's. He was one of those crooners like Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams with a smooth and soulful voice full of passion. His biggest hits were "It's Impossible'" and "And I Love You So." He is worth future reactions by you both. Awesome upload!

Perry Como was one of the classiest of all time. I know of his interaction with someone who helped him with a flat tire on a parkway. His tv show was great and his yearly Christmas/Holiday show was special. He would sing Ava Maria.

Lori Lieberman had the original hit back in 1972. The song was written between 1970 and 71, there have been many covers including Perry Como's, the most famous one of all by Roberta Flack which made no 1 and got a Grammy award for it.

The song was composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel and Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean. Lieberman released her version of the song in 1972, but it did not chart. In 1973 it became a number-one hit in the United States, Australia and Canada for Roberta Flack. It was also released by Perry Como and Johnny Mathis in 1973 but Flack was the one who had the huge hit with it first.

When I lived in FL in the 60's my dad went to Perry's house in Jupiter, FL to do glass work in his home. My dad owned a glass company and installed store fronts and private homes with windows, mirrors, etc. My dad said he was a nice guy and had a lovely home. Just a little story. There were so many crooners back then. You should do Roberta Flacks version. Perry covered her song. Her version is more emotional than Perry's. It is exceptional. Cheers from Canada

"Telling Us Softly With Her Calm"
    Chorus:
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers
Stringin' our time with her words
Telling us softly with her calm
Telling us softly with her calm
Takin' her whole time with her words
Telling us softly with her calm
We heard she had a good calm
We heard she had a style
And so we came to see her
    To listen for a while
And there she was this expert
    A doctor to advise
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers...
I felt all flushed with fever
    Needed to leave the crowd
I could not find my questions
To read each one out loud
I prayed that she would finish
But she just kept right on
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers...
She talked as if she knew us
    Like the voice at Carousel
No rapid tests for the public
    The millions kept on shelves
And she just kept on talkin'
    Talkin' 'bout Omicron
Scrummin' our brains as she lingers...
    She was scrummin' our brains
Yeah, she was stringin' our time
Readin' the data with her calm
Telling us softly with her calm
Takin' her whole time with her words
Telling us softly to be strong
Letter: Dr. Henry seems content with B.C. being last with rapid tests

unfortunately, Perry Como came along at the same time as
Crosby, Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, All major stars and worth it. someone always has to come 2nd. Perry Como.'
was perhaps the most Laid back singer. but had some fun hits, "Magic Moments" being a really big one.
50s and early 60s were really the voice years and a huge variation from the above mentioned, Elvis, to Tom Jones, to Johnny Cash, Everlys, to Brenda Lee to Sarah Vaughan . We had it All !!!

A male version? This isn't a love song. and so "his" and "her" are immaterial! It's the story of somebody responding to watching a performance by a "sensitive" singer/songwriter ( Don McLean according to Lori Lieberman) I guess Perry didn't understand that...or lots of other people either!
