Man I’ve made many slide gates and this is hands down the best and easiest way and seems to be nice and strong on all welds !!! Great gate and awesome craftsmanship
Great video! Would love to see a video on that attachment you have to roll chainlink out for those gates. Looks like I could use one of those in our fab shop!
i am a contractor but dont do fencing by trade ... Love the technical aspect to your videos and explaining why you do what you do 💪💪 Keep up the good work
That's our Nicholas. Ever since his dad bought him his first tool kit as a kid, he's been building and fixing things. Alsways was looking at things and going there's a better way to do that. Let's figure it out. Miss that kid every day but so proud of him. Much love from the oregon mattson clan.
We also do our diagonals in the same direction along the entire gate and I think we are the only ones that do that in our area lol. We had someone give us drawings for a cantilever gate and it included an angle iron that ran the full length of the gate. We did it and it helped with keeping the gate super straight, so ever since then, we use an angle iron on our gates to keep them straight.
Great vid. Fun to watch the fab on the gate. Quality is in the details. One question. All those tubes come to you galvanized, right? When you plasma cut and weld, I can't help thinking some of that zinc gets burned off. Is there some way the galv can be restored at the welded joints? Or is it negligible? Beautiful welds BTW.
You're absolutely right, that zinc does get burned off. We use a spray galv to recoat the welds and prevent rust, like you can see here: th-cam.com/video/iJG7QzCDYs8/w-d-xo.html This is what we use: www.swifence.com/national-vinyl-products-cold-galvanizing-paint.html?id=6496513
Hi your videos are like a mini course. I have been fabricating gates since the 80's but never had to install a cantilever system. Checked your site for the wheels but a weight limit is not stated. Whats the max weight of the gate to be used with your wheels. Also is there any difference in how smooth the gate runs with square tubing with the matching profile rollers vs round tubing. Thanks
The weight limit is 4,000 lbs. The smoothness of the rollers is the same as long as your talking comparing nylon rollers to nylon rollers. there's no difference between square and round.
Your system is cool, a lot of this video is the same ways we do and as always great video. We to have way too small of a shop but our way is a lot easier and takes up less space. Maybe i'll make a small video next week since i Have a 55 footer to build. I would suggest getting a 2-5 ton over head crane to flip your gates. We pick up one side up and lower it to the ground after we move the stands then connect it to the other side near the middle and lift it and move it over and lower it back on stands and pick up the other end with the over head crane on a I-beam well worth having one. Your shop is way nicer than ours btw. If i do make a video don't judge video skills i'm not as experienced like you guys are. Sharing ideas is the only way our industry can grow.
@@SWiFence Didn't have time so far we were Audited today so we spent time cleaning up Impressions are everything and passed with flying colors LOL. very awesome, would the rolling gate jig be as usable if it were on a angle? then you could possibly tuck it in close to a corner and not have to sacrifice floor space
That's how we brace our semi cantilever, we run our full cantilevers reverse hung with the drive rail as the supports on the back. That way you don't have a big gap under the gate and is twice as strong!
Technically the diagonal brace should point to the suspended side (low connection) which will keep the brace under tension. Having the other way will still work but be under compression so more likely to bow out under enough force.
Certainly not an engineer... the bow brace certainly adds rigidity and seems like a great idea. Just curious, didn't see any truss rods. Great info even for a old guy like me.😂
Do I need to tell you if your guys weld the galvanized long enough, without fresh air breathing apparatus, they will sue you for failure to properly educate and supply the proper PPE. Fans blowing the fumes away is not good enough. Ask me how I know!!
This is exactly how we built cantilever gates. Bow brace is a must too. Great video👍
Thank you mark for sharing the barb wire hack!!! It’ll definitely come in handy when we do 6+1 :) blessings 😊

Very Nice Gates Thanks again👍👍
Ever do wood cantilever gates?
Love your videos. Big Like for that chair! 👍
No, we pretty much just work in steel. 👍🏻

🤣🤣 Probably. Give it a shot!

Short answer, it depends.

Haha! Not this one! Sorry about that. 😊
