Far more accurate way of loading your reels is to load your chosen line eg. 150m Pulse Pro on first followed by your backing line. This way you don’t waste or get your mainline guesstimate wrong. When you are happy then wind the whole lot onto another spool. The backing goes on first followed by the exact amount of mainline. Okay you need a spare spool to do this but guessing, imo, can sometimes lead to mistakes especially if loading a 100m spool. Nothing worse than under spooling your reel.

The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel th-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.

Awesome video and tips Steve. I’ve loaded my reels like that for a long time. But the knot part I will use in the future. I normally do a blood knot to blood knot to connect backing to line or line to shock. What do you feel the benefits of a loop on the backing then a blood knot? And that also applies to main line to leader. Thanks Steve & Guru for the great videos. Tight Lines All

Nice explanation Steve and as a Guru consultant maybe you could answer a question please. I would like an Aventus 3000 for my pellet waggler fishing but l don't like the eva knob on the handle can it be changed? i know on some reels the knob is screwed and can be swapped., but but others are riveted and can't be changed without sawing off the spindle and replacing it which is a faff . If the knob screws off l will buy a 3000 but if not then l will buy a Daiwa TDR. Hope you can enlighten me. Cheers
