As a homeowner, I appreciate this video. I purchased a home 5 years ago and just found out I’m responsible for a retention pond I’ve never seen or heard of. Just trying to learn all I can.
Thanks I have been curious about these ponds. Imagine riding a lawnmower and ending up into the pond. I think one should also need to learn to swim in case he or she falls over.
Great vid. I live on one of these and love it. I maintain what is in front of me. The assn. maintains the other sides that border woods. Questions: What should the water pH be? How high and what plants are good (native) around the edge? What testing is helpful? (e.g., microbes, pH, identifying algae species. I have stocked it with Gambusias and a few other minnow species.
I live in a house on a retention pond yes the slope is issue when mowing. But the biggest problem is the geese coming in to your yard sometimes 15 20 of them at a time leaving a mess. I would never live on a pond again.
Hey Moshe! Texted you back. Give that zoning department a call with your survey handy to find out about your setbacks, easements, and impervious surface ratio limitations!
I bought a house that has a retention pond next door but I didn’t know it. My property is eroding. Who can I contact to find out what I can do to save my yard? Thanks!!
In Florida, it's pretty safe to assume that there could probably be gators in any lakes or retention ponds....we don't live in fear of them, just aware when we're walking close to the water or when we have children or pets nearby.

Glad you like the video! Hope you learned something. Thank you so much!
1 year later.. do you hate it? I'm looking at 4.5 acres of land with a retention pond on it near a lake.. was wondering if its worth the hassle.

Thank you for the information.
the purpose of retention ponds is to allow water to flow away from the houses right?

We have booked a home near the same retention pond in silverleaf...I’m really worried about the slope. Wish I had know abt it earlier
huh
Yes, please make more content like this with pro tips! Thank you so much for this video!
Awesome! You're welcome!
You need more plantings around the water to prevent erosion, like a buffer zone. Plantings in the water to keep it clear.
Hi! What about the detention pond? If right behind the home is a detention pond (dry pond). What are the pros and cons?
My retention pond overflowed during hurricane Nicole. The water eroded my soil and now i get anxiety.
The wildlife is great!
Oh man! Crazy!
Thank you. Great video

Oh man! You're not kidding! Are you in St Johns County?
What about mosquitoes 🦟?
How close can you build next to the pond?

You might have to bury the drain pipes so it doesn't wash out your yard. I had to do that.
What about mosquitos?
You're so right! Mosquitos but also No-see-ums if you live near the river or intercoastal!
how do I fix the erosion from IAN?
Hey Josh, I am thinking of purchasing a home on a retention pond. Do they emit any bad odors?
not generally

Hey Josefina--if you have an HOA, I'd start there.
@@JoshRogersRealEstateFL Thanks. We don’t have one of those either lol
What about alligators?

Gators? Snakes?
Yes and yes! Can't believe I didn't talk about that!
Retention ponds seem like a lazy way to manage water. I'm in pest control and there just another source for our efforts.
You forgot a pretty major one CON - you'd croak one day living near ut
