When she died everyone was so sad and said how great she was. Where were they when she needed help and persecuted her when she tore the popes picture on SNL. She did suffer with mental health issues
Prince hated her for making this song bigger than he or his bands ever could, tried to attack her in his own home and his family refused her to use this song in her docu.
@@noahcasa7917 That's the stupidest thing I've ever read about Prince and ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’. Have you ever thought that this hero (Sinead) had mental problems? Do you know that all the women who have been close to Prince only say good and positive things about him? Don't you know that Prince was quite dismissive with the covers that other musicians did of his catalogue? Prince spent most of his time making/writing/recording/playing music. It's true that he used to say about other people's versions of his work something like ‘if you can't make the song your own or add something brilliant to it, don't play it’. So, while I'm a big Prince fan and love and respect Sinead, this version is simpler than a rattle. If you want to rethink what you've written, listen to Prince with Rosie Gains live (at Glam Slam or Pailey Park) playing this song.
@ cap, you are blinded with your ‘prince’ love. Sorry to break it to you, Multiple women in his life have stated he was abusive and agressive. And yeah mental problems ? Which artists don’t have mental problems ? I bet majority have, at least Sinead didn’t abuse others but she was the victim. Can’t say that about your hero
@noahcasa7917 judge much. He did change his life.. I did not judge her or point out her self own self destruction. We all have things. And Prince came clean with his in an interview. Props to the song writer, she'd never had got the fame she did without his song & have the world stage 4 that brief moment. Ps I have her Albums loved her & am a huge Prince fan, from his beginning. I am no 1 judge
There was an interview she did where she talks about making this video. The tears were real. She said she was thinking of her mom who died in a car accident just several years prior.
This song was written and sung by Prince but he agreed that Sinead's version was the best. She was cut off by lots of people as she made her views on the Catholic Church and its Priests being paedophiles and abusers. She was definitely owed an apology as she was correct.
Sinead’s career took a nose dive when she performed this on SNL. After the song was over she held up a picture of the Pope and tore it in half. Lots of bad press. She was amazing and so talented. This album was awesome. Stretched on your Grave is different but stellar. This song was around 93-94???
Check out the official video for her song Troy from her first album. It refers to some of the abuse her mother, who had mental problems, put her through such as locking her out of the house so she had sleep outside in a field with the elements. Sinead was indeed a beautiful girl but when music industry people told her she should dress more sexily to attract more of an audience, she deliberately cut all her hair off as she believed in the artistry of music, not using sexuality.
Prince wrote the song about his maid who quit but he gave it Sinead O’Connor to sing. The tears she’s crying for her mother who had died before they were able to reconnect from a past. The uniqueness and Sinéad O’Connor’s voice is called keening it’s a way Irish people sing when they are deeply saddened.
@MrJasonshores364 part of the problem, the acts of the Church & the babies killed in the Unwed young girls homes, the horror & sales didn't reach the USA. Most had no idea. Her words were taken out of context cuz she used clipped words. Her voice cut off, but her sound stayed 4 many. I enjoyed her work in both areas of her Voice. Very much missed
No, the "ENTIRE WORLD" does NOT owe Sinead an apology. Not All of the 'ENTIRE WORLD" knew she even existed. And who in the hell are you, to tell anyone, let alone the world what they owe someone? Shove it up your a**, Mr. Jason Shores!
Came out in 1990. Written by Prince and originally recorded by him in 1984. Covered by many. Including Chris Cornell before his death, which is totally worth a listen. It's live and wonderful.
Have loved this song since it came out (1990)....SO BEAUTIFUL!! LOVE the LYRICS - Prince was SO GOOD, and Sinead did SUCH A GREAT JOB with this song!! ENJOY!
This song was written by Prince, but it belongs to Sinead. She had a very difficult relationship with her mother, and they were beginning to repair it when her mother was killed in a car accident. I think when she sings 'all the flowers that you planted mama in the backyard, all died when you went away' is when she really tears up and you can see that grief. Sinead truly had a troubled life, and this was a masterpiece. RIP Sinead. ♥️
Comment for Lynards concert, free bird. 😊It was raw and every band was unique! It was a much simpler and happy time. No skin cancer to worry about. Nobody stayed inside. There were no band concerts on tv so everyone went to the concerts when they were playing close by. The war was over so the young could plan for their futures and not fear going to war or loosing boyfriends, brothers, cousins in the war. We were happy and didn’t know what was going on in the rest of the world as it wasn’t on the news and we didn’t have internet. Only know what affected us personally so yes it was a happy time and all you worried about was you and yours and having a good job, good friends, and having fun. We had the swimming holes, concerts, high school games in town, dances, camping, hiking, having bon fires on a clearing and sliding down the mountain roads on inner tubes! And siting around with friends listening to records old and new ones.
I just came across your site today. I had to hear what you t6hought of Sinead. She was a beautiful woman and an incredible performer. Your thoughts were wonderful. She certainly knew how to reach your heart. You were asking for other Sinead songs and one that is exceptional is a cover of Bob Dylans "I Believe In You".......she does an incredible job and once again reaches your heartstrings. If your Mom has not heard this yet please pass it along to her. She raised a wonderful son. All My Best Ed Fr5om Summerfield FL
Thanks for the reaction video! The close up of the face reminds me of the James Blunt "Monsters" song, not sure if you have ever listened or reacted to this, I would be interested in seeing your reaction. "Monsters" - just in time for Halloween!
Beautiful person who spoke out about abuse and was ridiculed for it 🫶 this was released 1990 and written by Prince. She, before leaving us told us how amazing she thought Ren was 💔
00:28 in...want to say...THIS VERSION was one that me and my sisters played at Mom's funeral in May 1990 and ON REPEAT for day after. This song has SO MANY LAYERS and ways to relate. I still cry HUGE TEARS when I listen to it. THANKS TO YOUR MOM for this request AND I understand not wanting to share CERTAIN THINGS. Privacy...true privacy, is a rare thing now. (edit: BTW My Mom died on Mother's Day...just caught that part a few secs in) OK WAIT....Mother's day was WAY BACK in May...just now releasing?????????
I remember when this first came out. I think that she had recently suffered a bereavement, her mother if I remember right, and as she sang the song for the video, the emotion really came through and the tear was so genuine. Hope that was true and not just PR stuff. This was a truly powerful song - Prince wrote it and did perform it - for once, his performance did not match Sinead. RIP and bless her for the music.
I think the last verse confused a lot of people, possibly including Sinead. When Prince wrote it, he was almost certainly still referring to his girl that left- calling her "mama". I think many people mistakenly think he's referring to his mother.
@@bearballin The first version recorded and released was the one by The Family and that song says "mama." Sinead just copied what that one said and Prince recorded his own version later
Well holy hell now I see...... I LOVED that song but now I see o girl was willing to settle for someone because she was desperate............. DAMN!..... Girl should've kept looking.
I really love Sinéad O’Connor’s version of this song. I’ve always loved her version. However, someone now has replaced her in my eyes and that would be Chris Cornell. Thank you though for doing the reaction and I hope your mother really enjoyed it.😊
Mate loving this channel... Remember this song well... Brilliant... Happy mondays.. Wrote for luck official music video is worthy of a look... Very famous band from late 80s/90s..👍 👍
So poignant that your mom got you to listen to this, since the director of the video reminded Sinead of her recently-deceased mon when they were filming, prompting her real tears.
She showed an insane amount of emotion, pain in her voice and facial expressions here felt very real .
She was so beautiful & had an amazing voice. RIP Sinead 🙏

The GOAT Prince wrote this, Sinead made this her song. Her voice is one of a kind, so powerful
She was so abused as a child. She never really knew how beautiful and talented she really was unfortunately.
There was an interview she did where she talks about making this video. The tears were real. She said she was thinking of her mom who died in a car accident just several years prior.
She & her mom had a lot of issues on how her mom treated her growing up.
from a 45 year old to you.......... this is a one of those songs that was one of the most iconic songs growing up!!!!! LOVE!!!!!!!!!
This song is heart wrenching. She was right about the Catholic Church. RIP SINEAD🪽🕊️🙏✌️🌻🌻
Quality Tune. Quality Reaction. R.I.P. Sinead. A Beautiful And Tortured Soul.

The irony of it was that she was right. 😢
I vividly remember that SNL episode. I knew then she was going to take shit for it

😢😢
This was originally written by Prince. I loved his version best
It was indeed, and Prince's Version is amazing! IMO, it is the 3rd best version, however, after this one (#1) and Chris Cornell's.

Song is from 1987 or 88,have this recorded on vcr casette 😊😊😊
Prince wrote it, but Sinead owned it, especially after that incredible video performance, which was just her being authentic. A very troubled woman.
1990 this came out. I was a junior in high school. It was a huge song at the time. I had already been a fan from her previous album.

Prince wrote song for her
If you know enough music, you can tell this is late-1980s/early-1990s in style.
Written by Prince❤

Chris Cornell did a great version of this as well.
There is a live version of her doing this song and it is definitely worth taking a look!
